The Book Girl's Book Club Pick for July: 1872 (Marvel)

On June 18th, I had posted that I was restarting my book club in July and included the book club pick. I'm happy that The Book Girl's Book Club has officially restarted today, and here again is the book for July: 1872. This Marvel comic book is available in either paperback or digital.

To give everyone who wants to participate enough time to acquire and read the book, I will post my review for each month on the 15th for medium to smaller books and on the last day of the month for medium to larger books. Below are six discussion questions that we can discuss on the 15th that will also be included in my review. Also if you have any suggestions for future book club picks feel free to leave a comment.

Discussion Questions:

1. What did you like best about the story?

2. What didn't you like about it?

3. Before you read the book, what was your thoughts or opinions of Steve Rogers and Tony Stark being able to stop the villains? After reading the book are your thoughts still the same?

4. Did the illustrations work with or against the story?

5. Do you think this was an original story or something you have seen numerous times?

6. What did you think of the additional stories that were included in this book?

Book: 1872: Warzones! (issues #1-4) by Gerry Duggan with illustrations by Nik Virella

Description:

In the Battleworld zone of 1872, Sheriff Steve Rogers faces corruption and fear in the boom town of Timely. Can Anthony Stark pull Rogers' fat from the fire? Probably not, since the only thing he seems capable of pulling is the cork from a bottle. Things in Timely are bad, and getting worse -- and when a stranger named Red Wolf is brought into town, Timely will be changed forever...for anyone left standing when the dust clears, that is! Can justice trump the Dead Man's Hand composed of Bullseye, Elektra, Grizzly, Doc Ock and ringleader Wilson Fisk? And what concoction is the timid Dr. Banner cooking up in his apothecary? Plus: Classic appearances of Will Talltrees, the Marvel Universe's modern Red Wolf!

Includes: Avengers #80 and material from Marvel Comics Presents #170
