Book: Aliens/Vampirella (issues #1-6) by Corinna Bechko with illustrations and inks by Javier Garcia-Miranda, color by Inlight Studios and letters by Simon Bowland

Cover art by Gabriel Hardman and color by Jordan Boyd

Edition: Digital

Description:

Two iconic horror franchises collide, as Vampirella - the fan-favorite supernatural heroine - faces the most nightmarish creatures ever to appear in cinema: the Xenomorphs from Alien! As the first human colony on Mars digs deeper into the crimson soil, they discover the catacombs of a hibernating civilization, tens of thousands of years old. The evidence suggests that they are Nosferatu, an ancient and sinister species that Vampirella is all too familiar with. Called to the Red Planet to investigate, the monster hunter and her human allies find a chamber with hundreds of ellipsoidal, leathery eggs... and after they hatch, the true horror begins. In space, no one can hear Vampirella scream!

Review:

When Vampirella was asked to investigate possible ancient vampire ruins on the planet Mars, she never thought she would be in a life or death situation.

While exploring the ruins, Vampirella and all but one of the human space crew were attacked by facehuggers. The lone technician Lars who wasn't infected sealed the entire crew in. It wasn't long before the aliens burst out killing some of the crew and nearly destroying Vampirella. Lars was able to help Vampirella but unfortunately there was nothing he could do to help the rest of the crew. To make matters worst the crew above ground mistakenly believed Vampirella attacked and killed the other crew. They went down into the ruins to try to arrest her but by then the aliens were attacking.

This is a fast-paced fun and interesting sci-fi story that's full of horror and gore that fans of both Vampirella and the Aliens franchise would enjoy. As much as I enjoyed reading this, I found Vampirella to be a little out of character and appeared rather timid at times. She wasn't as fierce and as intense as she is usually shown but overall her characterization was good. I thought the artwork was good, it with perfectly with the story and the color had a good blend of rich color and shading.

This crossover with Vampirella vs Aliens surprisingly works. I'm glad I read this, it's a pretty good story.
