Nesting: Lando Calrissian's Millennium Falcon in Solo: A Star Wars Story

I remember when I was a little girl seeing Star Wars: A New Hope for first time on TV. It immediately caught my attention and when the Millennium Falcon first appeared on screen my reaction was pretty similar to Luke Skywalker's when he called it a piece of junk. I know you shouldn't judge a book by its cover but Han Solo had made such a big deal about his ship that once it appeared I couldn't help but feel slightly disappointed. However, despite my initial reaction about the Falcon's less than stellar appearance, I soon realized it really was an impressive ship.

(Han Solo's Millennium Falcon   Star Wars: A New Hope)

One of the things I loved about Solo: A Star Wars Story besides it being a great heist movie was getting to see more of the interior of the Millennium Falcon. The ship shown in Solo was such a stark contrast to what was shown in the original Star Wars trilogy. It goes without saying that Lando Calrissian has impeccable taste and when he owned the Falcon it reflected his style and sophistication. After watching Solo, Lando's line "What have you done to my ship?" from The Empire Strikes Back, really makes sense because you can't help wondering what did Han and Chewbacca do to that ship?

You can tell Lando put a lot of thought and money into his ship because it's refined futuristic elegance which is probably why he shouldn't have agreed to Han's bet. But Han and Lando are gamblers and they probably always believe they have the winning hand which is why Lando should never have bet his ship if he didn't want to lose it.

These videos are great at showing the amazing detail and interesting decor in Lando's Falcon but I wanted to go over some things I noticed.

The Hallway

This is pretty cool to have a sound system in the hallway. I was wondering if it's built into the seating or is it stationed with movable seats?

Auxiliary Control System

You can tell Lando spared no expense in customizing the Falcon because it even had ergonomic chairs not only in this auxiliary unit but also in the cockpit with the passenger chairs (see second picture below).

Entertainment Area

In the original Star Wars trilogy, this entertainment area like the exterior of the ship was so run down that I completely missed that there was a guest bunk above the circular booth seating. It's pretty cool that there is a personal entertainment system in there as well. However, it probably no longer worked by the original trilogy and Han and Chewie probably used the bunk simply for storage.

Kitchen

I loved that Solo showed us parts of the ship that have never been shown before such as the kitchen. You would expect a ship this size to at least have a kitchen and it was interesting to finally see it. I'm sure there's a refrigerator, probably under the counter or behind the panel on the wall. Lando made sure his kitchen was equipped with most likely the best appliances and gadgets to give him all the comforts and luxury of a standard home.

Captain's Quarters

This has to be the most awe-inspiring part of the ship because it's definitely Lando living his style. His luxurious bedroom is sleek and sophisticated and like the rest of the ship it's designed to impress. I wouldn't be surprised if there was an ensuite bathroom connected to the room. The bed looks supremely comfortable and also looks like it can be extended from the wall.

I noticed that he had enough space in his room to include a bench perhaps as a way to relax and listen to his music. The star of the room is the walk-in closet where all of his stylish capes are in view for quick decision-making in finding just the right cape for his mood or the occasion.

I hate to imagine what Han did to this room, I doubt he kept it as well as Lando did. And with his limited wardrobe, he probably used half of the closet as storage for random stuff.

As you can see Lando's Millennium Falcon was simply magnificent, it's a luxury mobile residence for a man of style. I'm sure most fans myself included would never have envisioned this version of the Falcon especially not after seeing how it looked in the original Star War trilogy. It simply makes you wonder how did Han and Chewie ruin this ship?
