On My List: March 28th

Happy Monday!

It's the start of a beautiful new week and I was wondering what's on your list? What books, shows and movies have you found or caught your interest?

I'm going to start posting On My List more often because there are just so many things that interest me. Well, here's my list:

Books I Want to Read

I have three very different books on my list. First is about finding yourself and loving who you are. The second is centers around a cooking competition where the contestants may find love and the third is a fantasy set in the world of magic. All three books seem very interesting.

Book: 30 Things I Love About Myself by Radhika Sanghani

Description:

When Nina Mistry's life hits rock bottom, she decides to change her stars by falling in love...with herself—a hilarious, heartfelt story from outrageously funny novelist Radhika Sanghani.

Nina didn't plan to spend her thirtieth birthday in jail, yet here she is in her pajamas, locked in a holding cell. There's no Wi-Fi, no wine, no carbs—and no one to celebrate with.

Unfortunately, it gives Nina plenty of time to reflect on how screwed up her life is. She's just broken up with her fiancé, and now has to move back into her childhood home to live with her depressed older brother and their uptight, traditional Indian mother. Her career as a freelance journalist isn’t going in the direction she wants, and all her friends are too busy being successful to hang out with her.

Just as Nina falls into despair, a book lands in her cell: How to Fix Your Shitty Life by Loving Yourself. It must be destiny. With literally nothing left to lose, Nina makes a life-changing decision to embark on a self-love journey. By her next birthday, she's going to find thirty things she loves about herself.

Book: Love & Other Disasters by Anita Kelly

Description:

The first openly nonbinary contestant on America’s favorite cooking show falls for their clumsy competitor in this delicious romantic comedy debut that USA Today hailed as “an essential read.”

Recently divorced and on the verge of bankruptcy, Dahlia Woodson is ready to reinvent herself on the popular reality competition show Chef’s Special. Too bad the first memorable move she makes is falling flat on her face, sending fish tacos flying—not quite the fresh start she was hoping for. Still, she's focused on winning, until she meets someone she might want a future with more than she needs the prize money.

After announcing their pronouns on national television, London Parker has enough on their mind without worrying about the klutzy competitor stationed in front of them. They’re there to prove the trolls—including a fellow contestant and their dad—wrong, and falling in love was never part of the plan.

As London and Dahlia get closer, reality starts to fall away. Goodbye, guilt about divorce, anxiety about uncertain futures, and stress from transphobia. Hello, hilarious shenanigans on set, wedding crashing, and spontaneous dips into the Pacific. But as the finale draws near, Dahlia and London’s steamy relationship starts to feel the heat both in and outside the kitchen—and they must figure out if they have the right ingredients for a happily ever after.

Book: The City of Dusk (The Dark Gods book #1) by Tara Sim

Description:

Set in a gorgeous world of bone and shadow magic, of vengeful gods and defiant chosen ones, The City of Dusk follows the four heirs of four noble houses—each gifted with a divine power—as they form a tenuous alliance to keep their kingdom from descending into a realm-shattering war.

The Four Realms—Life, Death, Light, and Darkness—all converge on the City of Dusk. For each realm there is a god, and for each god there is an heir.

But the gods have withdrawn their favor from the once vibrant and thriving metropolis. And without it, all the realms are dying.

Unwilling to stand by and watch the destruction, the four heirs—Angelica, an elementalist with her eyes set on the throne; Risha, a necromancer fighting to keep the peace; Nikolas, a soldier who struggles to see the light; and Taesia, a shadow-wielding rogue with a reckless heart—will become reluctant allies in the quest to save their city.

But their rebellion will cost them dearly.

TV Shows I Want to Watch:

New to Me Shows:

Hannibal

I've read a few of the books from the Hannibal Lecter series by Thomas Harris and I've seen the movies but I've never watched the show. I've heard so many good things about this show and despite it being cancelled after three seasons that hasn't stopped fans from continuing to love this series. So, I'm hoping I'll enjoy watching it as well.

Starring: Hugh Dancy, Mads Mikkelsen, Laurence Fishburne, Caroline Dhavernas, Scott Thompson, Aaron Abrams, Gillian Anderson, Hettienne Park and more

Description:

Explores the early relationship between renowned psychiatrist Hannibal Lecter and Will Graham, a young FBI criminal profiler who is haunted by his ability to empathize with serial killers.

Witches of East End

I don’t know why I didn’t watch Witches of East End when it originally aired but looking at the trailer it reminds me of the TV series Charmed. I know this cancelled series is an adaptation from the book of the same title by Melissa de la Cruz but it really makes me think of Charmed. I don’t know, I’ll see if it does once I watch it.

Starring: Julia Ormond, Jenna Dewan, Rachel Boston, Mädchen Amick, Daniel di Tomasso, Eric Winters, Christian Cooke, Bianca Lawson and more

Description:

The mysterious and magical Beauchamp family lives in the secluded seaside town of East Haven. Free-spirited artist Joanna Beauchamp is the mother of wild-child bartender Freya and shy librarian Ingrid. Both daughters discover as adults that they're witches with magical powers. As witches, they have to go up against a mortal enemy.

Movies I want to Watch:

Rewatch:

Center Stage

I’m sure some of you already know that I’m a dance geek and that I love watching dance movies. And one that I really love is Center Stage. It’s a wonderful movie that I haven’t seen in a while which is why I want to rewatch it.

Starring: Amanda Schull, Ethan Stiefel, Sascha Radetsky, Zoe Saldana, Susan May Pratt, Peter Gallagher and more

Director: Nicholas Hytner

Writer: Carol Heikkinen

Description:

A group of dancers from various backgrounds enroll at the American Ballet Academy in New York to make it as ballet dancers and each one deals with the problems and stress of training and getting ahead in the world of dance.

Love by the 10th Date

I remember watching the romantic comedy Love by the 10th Date when it originally aired on Lifetime. It’s a funny movie with love of course at the center of it. I recently found it on DVD and can’t wait to rewatch it.

Starring: Meagan Good, Kelly Rowland, Keri Hilson, Kellee Stewart, Brandon T. Jackson, Andra Fuller, Christian Keyes and more

Director and Writer: Nzingha Stewart

Description:

Four friends (Meagan Good, Kelly Rowland, Keri Hilson, Kellee Stewart) balance their dating adventures with their career ambitions at an upscale magazine, teaching themselves and each other how to get the most out of love and life.
