On My List: September 10th

Happy Sunday!

Before I post about On My List, I wanted to send all my love to the people in Morocco after the devasting earthquake. Every little bit of news I hear is just so awful. I truly hope that all who have survived will be able to rebuild their lives and mourn all that have died. This is such a difficult to segue from but here On My List.

Books I Want to Read (But Just Haven't Bought Yet):

In this week's group of books is a board game centered mystery (I believe this is a cozy mystery), a supernatural romance and an unexpected celebrity romance. All three books seem interesting.

Book: Board to Death (A Board Game Shop Mystery) by CJ Connor

Description:

In a trendy Salt Lake City, Utah, neighborhood, Ben Rosencrantz's board game shop has become a community hotspot for players of all ages--and for killer collectors.

Back in his hometown of Sugar House running his family's board game shop and cafe, Ben Rosencrantz just can't seem to get his life to pass go, much less collect $200. Once he was a happily married English professor in Seattle. Now he's a divorced caregiver, looking after his ill father and a chihuahua named Beans while still figuring out the rules of retail management. At least the town has become more LGBTQ+ friendly than when Ben was a teenager--and that flower shop owner Ezra McCaslin enjoys flirting with him.

But despite his usual clientele of gamers, Ben is barely earning enough to keep the store running and stay on top of his father's medical bills. Then a local toy and game collector named Clive offers him a winning strategy--to purchase a turn-of-the-twentieth-century edition of The Landlord's Game, the realty and taxation game that inspired Monopoly, at a tenth of the rare edition's true value. Suspicious of Clive's shady, low-priced deal, Ben turns the offer down.

Then Clive turns up dead in the dumpster behind Ben's shop and a backpack full of $100 bills appears on his doorstep. Now Ben is the #1 suspect in Clive's death, and unless he and Ezra can prove his innocence and find the real killer, he'll go to jail for murder--and no amount of double dice rolls will set him free . . .

Book: My Roommate Is a Vampire by Jenna Levine

Description:

True love is at stake in this charming, debut romantic comedy.

Cassie Greenberg loves being an artist, but it’s a tough way to make a living. On the brink of eviction, she’s desperate when she finds a too-good-to-be-true apartment in a beautiful Chicago neighborhood. Cassie knows there has to be a catch—only someone with a secret to hide would rent out a room for that price.

Of course, her new roommate Frederick J. Fitzwilliam is far from normal. He sleeps all day, is out at night on business, and talks like he walked out of a regency romance novel. He also leaves Cassie heart-melting notes around the apartment, cares about her art, and asks about her day. And he doesn’t look half bad shirtless, on the rare occasions they’re both home and awake. But when Cassie finds bags of blood in the fridge that definitely weren’t there earlier, Frederick has to come clean...

Cassie’s sexy new roommate is a vampire. And he has a proposition for her.

TV Show I Want to Watch:

My Adventures with Superman

I had planned to watch My Adventures with Superman when it premiered back in July on Adult Swim on the Cartoon Network. But I never got around to it, that is until now. Since all 10 episodes have aired, I can sit back and relax and have a mini marathon watching all the episodes.

Starring: Jack Quaid, Alice Lee, Ishmel Sahid, Darrell Brown, Joel de la Fuente, Jake Green, Zehra Fazal, Azuri Hardy-Jones, Kari Wahlgren, Debra Wilson, Catherine Taber, Kimberly Brooks, Lucas Grabeel and more

Description:

Clark Kent builds his secret Superman identity and embraces his role as the hero of Metropolis. While also sharing adventures and falling in love with Lois, a star investigative journalist, who also takes Jimmy Olsen under her wing.

Movie I Want to Rewatch:

Emma

I've always loved the story Emma by Jane Austen because Emma is so annoying and always being so nosy and in everyone's business. However, you can't help but love her, she's a very interesting character. I really love this latest adaptation, it's a wonderful take on the story.

Starring: Anya Taylor-Joy, Johnny Flynn, Bill Nighy, Mia Goth, Myra McFadyen, Josh O'Connor, Callum Turner and more

Director: Autumn de Wilde

Writer: Eleanor Catton

Description:

In 1800s England, a well meaning but selfish young woman meddles in the love lives of her friends.

Handsome, clever, and rich, Emma Woodhouse is a restless queen bee without rivals in her sleepy little town. In this glittering satire of social class and the pain of growing up, Emma must adventure through misguided matches and romantic missteps to find the love that has been there all along.
