I love creating On My List, it's where I get to share some of the books, shows and movies that I want to read and watch. And here is my latest:
Books I Want to Read:
From a new romance to a hero trying to save her neighborhood, these are three books that I really want to read. I love reading different genres of books and I'm loving all the wonderful picks that are out there.
Book: One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston
Publication Date: June 1, 2021
Description:
For cynical twenty-three-year-old August, moving to New York City is supposed to prove her right: that things like magic and cinematic love stories don’t exist, and the only smart way to go through life is alone. She can’t imagine how waiting tables at a 24-hour pancake diner and moving in with too many weird roommates could possibly change that. And there’s certainly no chance of her subway commute being anything more than a daily trudge through boredom and electrical failures.
But then, there’s this gorgeous girl on the train.
Jane. Dazzling, charming, mysterious, impossible Jane. Jane with her rough edges and swoopy hair and soft smile, showing up in a leather jacket to save August’s day when she needed it most. August’s subway crush becomes the best part of her day, but pretty soon, she discovers there’s one big problem: Jane doesn’t just look like an old school punk rocker. She’s literally displaced in time from the 1970s, and August is going to have to use everything she tried to leave in her own past to help her. Maybe it’s time to start believing in some things, after all.
Casey McQuiston’s One Last Stop is a magical, sexy, big-hearted romance where the impossible becomes possible as August does everything in her power to save the girl lost in time.
Book: The Vine Witch (The Vine Witch book #1) by Luanne G. Smith
Description:
A young witch emerges from a curse to find her world upended in this gripping fantasy set in turn-of-the-century France.
For centuries, the vineyards at Château Renard have depended on the talent of their vine witches, whose spells help create the world-renowned wine of the Chanceaux Valley. Then the skill of divining harvests fell into ruin when sorcière Elena Boureanu was blindsided by a curse. Now, after breaking the spell that confined her to the shallows of a marshland and weakened her magic, Elena is struggling to return to her former life. And the vineyard she was destined to inherit is now in the possession of a handsome stranger.
Vigneron Jean-Paul Martel naively favors science over superstition, and he certainly doesn’t endorse the locals’ belief in witches. But Elena knows a hex when she sees one, and the vineyard is covered in them. To stay on and help the vines recover, she’ll have to hide her true identity, along with her plans for revenge against whoever stole seven winters of her life. And she won’t rest until she can defy the evil powers that are still a threat to herself, Jean-Paul, and the ancient vine-witch legacy in the rolling hills of the Chanceaux Valley.
Book: Wings of Ebony by J. Elle
Description:
"Make a way out of no way" is just the way of life for Rue. But when her mother is shot dead on her doorstep, life for her and her younger sister changes forever. Rue's taken from her neighborhood by the father she never knew, forced to leave her little sister behind, and whisked away to Ghizon--a hidden island of magic wielders.
Rue is the only half-god, half-human there, where leaders protect their magical powers at all costs and thrive on human suffering. Miserable and desperate to see her sister on the anniversary of their mother's death, Rue breaks Ghizon's sacred Do Not Leave Law and returns to Houston, only to discover that Black kids are being forced into crime and violence. And her sister, Tasha, is in danger of falling sway to the very forces that claimed their mother's life.
Worse still, evidence mounts that the evil plaguing East Row is the same one that lurks in Ghizon--an evil that will stop at nothing until it has stolen everything from her and everyone she loves. Rue must embrace her true identity and wield the full magnitude of her ancestors' power to save her neighborhood before the gods burn it to the ground.
TV Shows I Want to Watch:
New to Me Shows:
L.A.'s Finest season 1 (Netflix)
Sometimes, I feel like there are so many new shows that I end up not being able to watch a lot of shows when they originally air. I have been wanting to watch L.A.'s Finest for a while and apparently I waited too late because the show was cancelled after two seasons. And to make matters worse, the second season is only available on Spectrum Originals. Well, at least I can watch the first season which is on Netflix, so far this has been no information on whether the second season will also be available on the streaming service.
Starring: Gabrielle Union, Jessica Alba, Duane Martin, Zach Gilford, Ryan McPartlin, Sophie Reynolds, Ernie Hudson and more
Description:
The spinoff series of Bad Boys films focuses on drug enforcement agent Sydney Burnett (Gabrielle Union), now working for the Los Angeles Police Department and paired with a new partner, Nancy McKenna (Jesscia Alba).
Shows I Want to Rewatch:
Into the Badlands
I'm still disappointed this show was cancelled, I wanted a fourth season. Into the Badlands had some of the best story lines and characters. Daniel Wu was the perfect lead for this show and I loved all the action and fight sequences, it was so amazing. Also, this was also the first thing that I noticed Madeleine Mantock (who is currently starring in the Charmed reboot) and Oliver Stark (who is currently starring on 9-1-1) appearing in and although they were not in that many episodes their performance really stood out and I immediately became a fan.
Starring: Daniel Wu, Orla Brady, Emily Beecham, Aramis Knight, Ally Ioannides, Nick Frost, Sherman Augustus, Sarah Bolger, Oliver Stark, Madeleine Mantock, Lorraine Toussaint, Lewis Tan and more

Sunny (Daniel Wu), a mighty warrior and M.K. (Aramis Knight), a young boy search for enlightenment in a ruthless territory controlled by feudal barons.
