9-1-1 Monday: Dr. Karen and Henrietta Wilson

Happy 9-1-1 Monday! I'm continuing with another couples' post.

I really love Henrietta "Hen" and Dr. Karen Wilson's relationship. However, there is one thing I don't like about it, which was Hen cheating with her ex-girlfriend Eva in the first season. Although it only happened one time, it was still heartbreaking. It really felt like nothing more than the Showrunner and writers wanting to include unnecessary drama to their relationship by having Hen cheat on Karen in the episode Full Moon (Creepy AF) (season 1 episode 7). The cheating nearly ruined Karen and Hen's relationship but Karen did eventually forgive her. Not many relationships can survive infidelity but theirs did and grew stronger. However, the Showrunner and writers wouldn't let the viewers forget because throughout the series the cheating and the fallout from it continued to be brought up.

(9-1-1 season 3 episode 17: Powerless)

I mention all of this because after the quote from the scene below in the third season episode Powerless, it made it seem as if Hen could possibly be cheating again. Because after Hen left their bedroom to go check on their son Denny and their foster daughter (at the time) Nia. A message popped up on Hen's phone from some one named Imelda. This of course made Karen suspicious and when she talked with Howard "Chimney" Han, she found out that Hen lied about going out to dinner with Chimney. This had Karen and Chimney going down a drunken spiral. And thanks to Chimney's girlfriend Maddie Buckley calling Hen, she showed up at Chimney's apartment (see picture above). Hen had revealed the truth that no she was not cheating. She had met with Imelda (a.k.a. Dr. Imelda Royce) to talk about Hen possibly going to medical school to become a doctor. Even though Hen wasn't cheating the writers still managed to hint at it. I really wish the cheating never happened because it just seem like the writers can't stop bringing it up.

Total side note: when Hen explained why she didn't invite Karen to go out to dinner with her and Chimney, she said that "so he [Chimney] invites Maddie, Maddie invites Buck, Buck invites Eddie, and now we’ve gotta invite Athena and Bobby." I love how it's just a given that Buck and Eddie will be paired together. Whether the Showrunner and writers want to admit it, these are the four main couples of the show. And I wish they would realize that soon rather than continue to force Eddie and Buck with random love interests instead of each other. I don't want to take any more focus off of Hen and Karen because their relationship is something that broke and had to be put back together. They (especially Hen) needed to recommit to each other and prioritize romance and their relationship. Which they did and I look forward to seeing how their relationship will continue to grow in the eventual (hopeful) upcoming seventh season.

(9-1-1 season 3 episode 17: Powerless)

Karen: Okay, okay, we have got to cut back on eating out. We're spending more on restaurants than groceries. Wait. You went to Shogun without me?

Hen: What?

Karen: Well, there’s a charge here for the Teppanyaki place. Who’d you go with?

Hen: Oh...Chimney. You know, never took him out for his birthday.

Karen: And you didn’t invite me? I love Teppanyaki.

Hen: Babe, you know how it is. I invite you, so he invites Maddie, Maddie invites Buck, Buck invites Eddie, and now we’ve gotta invite Athena and Bobby and next thing you know you’re looking at a dinner bill roughly the size of a mortgage payment.

Karen: Hmm. This is a whole new side of you I haven't seen before. Frugal. Sexy.

Hen: Oh, really?

Karen: Mm-hmm.

Hen: Well, did I tell you that I was thinking...

Karen: Mmm.

Hen: About getting us a Costco membership?

Karen: Oh, tell me more.
