Most Memorable Scene: Buffy Summers leaving Sunnydale

I don't know why I was thinking about this ending to the Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode Becoming part 2 (season 2 episode 22). It's just so sad because not only did Buffy save the world but in order to do that she lost a lot. First, in order to leave her house to save the world, Buffy had no choice but to tell her mother Joyce that she was the Slayer. And in doing so, her mom told her if she goes out that don't bother coming back home. Yes, her mother said that in anger but she still said it. But Buffy had to stop Angel from releasing a demon that would destroy the world and that cost her something as well. Because right before she closed the demon's portal, she had to send Angel through it in order to close it. And that was sad because Willow Rosenberg's spell worked by returning Angel's soul to him and he was no longer the evil Angelus but it was too late.

With the world saved, Buffy truly felt like she had nothing left. No home, no love and no sense of being. Edit to add: I forgot she got kicked out of school which left her with another thing she lost. So she took her mother's words to heart and left Sunnydale. This was just so sad. And not to mentioned they added such a sad song to the scene, "Full of Grace" by Sarah McLachlan. I haven't watched this episode is so long, I don't know why I was thinking about it.

Christmas Countdown Day #7: Buffy and Joyce looking for a Christmas tree (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)

It's the seventh day until Christmas and I'm posting this scene from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode Amends (season 3 episode 10). In this scene, Buffy Summers and her mom Joyce were shopping for a Christmas tree. While they were shopping, Joyce asked Buffy to invite Faith Lehane over for Christmas since she will be alone for the Holiday. Yet Joyce didn't want to invite Rupert Giles over since he will also be alone for the Holiday. I guess it was due to what happened between them in the episode Band Candy (season 3 episode 6) and she was still feeling awkward about it. Was the candy the reason her and Giles had been all over each other or did they always have feelings for each other?

It's interesting that Joyce sort of dismissed Buffy's reluctance to invite Faith over. Especially after Buffy and Faith had gotten into a big fight when Faith was trying to kill Angel in the episode Revelations (season 3 episode 7). Anyway, I know it's the spirit of the season, which is why Buffy did invite Faith over even if she didn't really want to.

I'm a little late posting this but it's still the Fourth Day of the Month (formerly known as the 4th of July)! With the original holiday continuing to lose its meaning, enjoying the Fourth Day of the Month just feels so much more appealing.

Most Memorable Scene and Quote: Buffy Summers and Rupert Giles (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)

Buffy: Hello? Is anybody here? (startled) Ooo! Anybody's here!

Giles: Can I help you?

Buffy: I was looking for some, well, books. I’m new.

Giles: Miss Summers.

Buffy: Good call. I guess I’m the only new kid, huh?

Giles: I’m Mr. Giles, the librarian. I was told you were coming.

Buffy: Great! So, um, I'm gonna need 'Perspectives on 20th Century...'

Giles: I know what you’re after. (He pulled out a book titled “VAMPYR”)

Buffy: That’s not what I’m looking for.

Giles: Are you sure?

Buffy: I’m way sure.

I love this scene because Buffy Summers and her mother Joyce had recently moved to Sunnydale after there was a bad incident at Buffy's old high school, Hemery High in Los Angeles. During the Senior Dance, she had fought off a large vampire attack at her school which ultimately lead to the school's gym burning down (see the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie). This left Buffy with a bad reputation as a troubled student.

So this move to Sunnydale was a fresh start for her and hopefully away from both being a Vampire Slayer and the supernatural world. Which is why at this point, the last thing she would ever want to see was that VAMPYR book. I don't know why Rupert Giles thought it would be a good idea to show her that book. Especially since he only introduced himself as the school's librarian and not as a Watcher (someone who guides and trains the Vampire Slayer). She didn't know who he was and that just made the experience for her weird and creepy.

Depending on what you're a fan of, sometimes there's a lot of merchandise (official and unofficial). While other times there's very little or none at all. So, as a geek, there's no surprise I like finding interesting or fun fandom things. It's just nice having a little something from your favorite fandoms.

As some of you might know (especially if you visit Book Girl often), I love mugs. I have so many of them from regular to fandom ones. I was searching through Society6 looking at mugs when I found this Buffy the Vampire Slayer mug. I really like it because it has all these little symbols and icons that represent the show. It's Buffy the Vampire Slayer without stating it.

Book of Interest: Valentina Salazar is not a Monster Hunter

I found another interesting book, Valentina Salazar is not a Monster Hunter by Zoraida Córdova and as the title states it centers on monster hunters (and protectors). The first part of the description makes me think of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie and TV series where in the movie Buffy Summers' high school gym was on fire and would eventually burn down after vampires showed up during prom. And in the first episode of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV series, there was a reference to it when Buffy, as a new student at Sunnydale high school, was in her meeting with Principal Flutie.

Anyway, back to this book, according to the description Valentina and her family are monster protectors who help magical or supernatural creatures. And just when her family is trying to move away from that life after the death of her father and be "normal", a supernatural creature may need their help. However, they may have to deal with monster hunters who are after the creature.

How could I not want to read this, it seems like an interesting take on the monster hunter/slayer stories.

Fashion Meets Fandom: Buffy Summers

Buffy Summers had amazing style and during the earlier seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer she wore a lot fun and trendy clothes especially cute mini dresses paired with boots. I was inspired to create an outfit that was cute but still functional. What I always found interesting about Buffy's wardrobe is that she wore regular everyday clothes instead of something "slayer" specific to go up against vampires and other supernatural being that were preying on her small town, Sunnydale.

To get a Buffy inspired look, I picked a blue flowy sleeveless shift dress and black boots. I love this look because it's simple and effortless yet fashionable. The bold blue color is balanced out by the classic style of dress and black boots. This feels like a very classic Buffy look but with a slightly modern touch. To give the look a little something extra, you could add a blazer or jacket.

Fandom Friday: Random Fandom Thoughts #19

Happy Friday! It's been an interesting week, which is why I'd love to know what are some of your fandom thoughts?

- One of my pet peeves is when comic book superhero/villain characters have on random regular clothes over their costumes. I don't know, it's just something that annoys me. It ruins the look of the costume and it looks weird.

Fashion Meets Star Style: Chloë Grace Moretz

Due to the pandemic a lot of us are working and going to school at home. Being at home has made dressing really easy because I've been wearing more sweats and lounge wear more than anything else. But I want to get back to wearing cute and non-lounge/sweat clothes again. Yet I still want to be comfortable.

Which is why I love this outfit that actress Chloë Grace Moretz wore a few years ago. I know she's wearing a sweatshirt but pairing it with a mini skirt totally kick it up a notch style wise. This look is so cute and casual yet still looks ultra-comfy.

This is a simple look to put together with a cozy sweatshirt paired with a cute skirt. Since Chloë's sweatshirt has a sheer panel, I picked this Buffy the Vampire Slayer black sweatshirt because I wanted something that was unexpected yet still pretty cool. I paired it with a faded red skirt for a pop of color.

Book of Interest: Chosen

I loved reading Slayer, it was a really good read and since then I've been patiently waiting for second book Chosen to be released. Which is why I can't believe I totally forgot that it was out, somehow I completely overlooked it being released last Tuesday. Since, I didn't pre-order it, I'm going to have to make sure I pick up a copy as soon as possible. I have to know what's going to happen next in this series.

Who else is reading this series? What did you think of the first book? Did you think it was a good or bad addition to the Buffy the Vampire Slayer universe?

Fashion Meets Fandom: Buffy Summers (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)

It's been 16 years since the finale episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer aired and Buffy Summers is still a style icon. She had one of the coolest wardrobes that included mini dresses paired with boots, cute tops paired with pants or jeans, sophisticated jackets and coats and her casual and chic sporty slayer clothes.

From high school student to wayward 20-something, her fantastic wardrobe always fit every aspect of her fast-paced and highly complicated life. I love this outfit Buffy wore in the episode Buffy vs Dracula, because even though she has to take on the Prince of Darkness, she looked amazing.

It's a simple yet stylish outfit of a long sleeve black top paired with pink pants as I said before just because she's fought the supernatural doesn't mean she had to wear drab and boring clothes. You don't have to be a vampire slayer to put together this classic look, because it only consist of two items. However, you can let Buffy's indomitable spirit inspire you to take on any challenges you face.

Alyson Hannigan (Entertainment Weekly)

Alyson Hannigan starred as one of my favorite nerdy characters, Willow Rosenberg from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV series. What I loved about the show is that Willow and the other characters were allowed to grow which at times lead to plenty of mistakes and problems but at least they weren't boring one dimensional characters.

Video: Bianca Lawson Discussing Her Most Memorable Roles

Here is a cool video of actress Bianca Lawson talking about some of her most memorable roles. I think she is such an underrated actress who has been working for a long time and I love that she has appeared in so many of my favorite fandoms such as Sister, Sister; Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Teen Wolf, Pretty Little Liars and The Vampire Diaries.

I can't believe I forgot she appeared on Dawson's Creek, it has been a while since I've watched the show, maybe I'll give it a rewatch. I've never seen Queen Sugar (which is based on the book by Natalie Baszile) but maybe I'll watch the first two seasons since the show is on Hulu.
