Christmas Countdown Day #7: Mystery Inc. and the Evil Snowman

In the Scooby-Doo holiday special The Curse Of The Sinister Snowman, the Scooby Gang were trying to figure out why an evil snowman was trying to shut down a department store during Christmas time. This had an interesting mystery which also included Santa providing a bit of surprise assistance to Shaggy and Scooby.

As much as I enjoyed watching this, I do have an issue with this special. I would really like to know why the animators didn't draw tights or pants for Velma? It's wintertime and it's cold and snowy, yet no one behind the scenes thought hey let's give Velma tights. That's just something that annoyed about this because they even drew pants for Daphne yet not for Velma.

What Shows Are You Rewatching?

Happy Saturday!

I was wondering if there are any shows you've been rewatching? I've been rewatching A Pup Named Scooby-Doo. I bought the DVDs a few weeks ago and finally found time to start watching the first season and so far I've only rewatched the first five episodes. I forgot how much really loved this little series. A Pup Named Scooby-Doo originally aired from 1988-1991 for four seasons. It's a fun and adorable addition to the Scooby-Doo franchise that centered around the younger versions of the iconic mystery solving characters.

What I like about this series is the little changes to the characters yet they are still somewhat the same. For instance, gone is the usual practical Fred "Freddy" Jones because in this series, he's obsessed with weird alien conspiracies and thinking the neighborhood bully Red Herring is the person behind most if not all of their mysteries. But he still has the same interest in wanting to solve mysteries and having his friends split up while investigating.

As for Velma Dinkley, she's small, quiet, moves fast and rarely talks but is still very observant and intelligent. While Daphne Blake underwent the most changes, she's a skeptical snob who doesn't want to get her boots dirty. This version of Fred and Daphne feel like early concepts of The X-Files Fox Mulder (obsessed with conspiracies) and Dr. Dana Scully (skeptical). The only ones who didn't receive any changes were Norville "Shaggy" Rogers and Scooby-Doo who are pretty much the same characters throughout the Scooby-Doo franchise.

If I have some time today, I'm going to watch some more episodes. It has been a while since I've watched this show.

Movie Review: Daphne & Velma

I know I mainly review books but I recently watched "Daphne & Velma" and wanted to post something about it.

No one solves mysteries better than Mystery Inc. and that continues in this Scooby-Doo prequel movie Daphne & Velma. In this movie, Daphne Blake (Sarah Jeffery) and Velma Dinkley (Sarah Gilman) go from online friends to real life friends after Daphne's family relocated to Ridge Valley. Daphne was happy for the move because not only was she was going to attend the high tech school Ridge Valley High but finally meet her online friend Velma (who also goes to RVH).

DVD Pick: Daphne & Velma

If it wasn't for a trip to the store, I would have never known there was a Daphne & Velma movie. This is a Direct to Video movie that was apparently released on May 22nd.

I'm really surprised that I didn't hear anything about this movie until now. As a huge Scooby-Doo fan, I try to keep up on any news in the Scooby-Doo fandom but somehow I missed this. After looking at the trailer, I think the movie looks like it will be fun and interesting to watch as Daphne and Velma try to solve a mystery before they meet the other future members of Mystery Incorporated.

Fashion Meets Comics: Daphne Blake

Images: Left: What's New, Scooby-Doo?  Right: Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!

Daphne Blake may be a key member of the Scooby-Doo gang but she's also known for her fashion sense and for being danger prone.

I love that in the world of Scooby-Doo each of the characters have signature colors and Daphne is usually shown wearing some combination of purple, pink and/or green.

For this Fashion Meets Comics post I decided to only focus on the purple and green. I chose this simple yet chic purple dress that could be worn for day or night. I paired it with a bright green scarf that will be just as head turning as a ghost in creepy old house.

Who knew solving mysteries could be so stylish.

Art of the Day (Fashion Meets Comics): Scooby-Doo

Artwork: Hipster Scooby-Doo by wiccim

Cool outfits! I could see each of them wearing theses clothes with maybe just a few minor changes to Freddy's outfit. I would put him in longer pants. But overall they look great.
