DVD Pick: You, Me & Tuscany

I just love this movie, You, Me & Tuscany, it's so cute, funny and romantic. It's one of my favorite romantic comedies, the story has that classic feel to it. You get a misunderstanding, risk taking coupled with a rash decision but ultimately leading to a wonderful romance. I have been waiting on this be released on DVD so I can get it and rewatch it.

You, Me & Tuscany

Book and Movie: The Hating Game

I really love romantic comedies, it doesn't matter if it's a book or a movie, I'll read it or watch it. A book that I'm interested reading, which I heard a lot of good things about is The Hating Game by Sally Thorne and it just so happens to have been turned into a movie. The movie stars Lucy Hale and was released December 10, 2021. For anyone such as myself who didn't see the movie (because like myself you didn't know it existed) the DVD is going to be released Tuesday, February 8th.

I will be adding both of these to my list to get later because I really want to read the book and watch the movie.

Book

Book: The Hating Game by Sally Thorne

Description:

Soon to be a movie starring Lucy Hale and Austin Stowell, USA Today bestselling author Sally Thorne’s hilarious and sexy workplace comedy all about that thin, fine line between hate and love.

Nemesis (n.) 1) An opponent or rival whom a person cannot best or overcome.

                     2) A person’s undoing

                     3) Joshua Templeman

Lucy Hutton and Joshua Templeman hate each other. Not dislike. Not begrudgingly tolerate. Hate. And they have no problem displaying their feelings through a series of ritualistic passive aggressive maneuvers as they sit across from each other, executive assistants to co-CEOs of a publishing company. Lucy can’t understand Joshua’s joyless, uptight, meticulous approach to his job. Joshua is clearly baffled by Lucy’s overly bright clothes, quirkiness, and Pollyanna attitude.

Now up for the same promotion, their battle of wills has come to a head and Lucy refuses to back down when their latest game could cost her her dream job…But the tension between Lucy and Joshua has also reached its boiling point, and Lucy is discovering that maybe she doesn’t hate Joshua. And maybe, he doesn’t hate her either. Or maybe this is just another game.

DVD Pick: Superboy TV Series

I know it's Disney+ Day and there are a lot of new shows, movies and documentaries being announced but I was wondering what old shows are you watching or interested in watching? An old show that I plan to watch is Superboy which I had no idea even existed. You would think as a Superman fan I would have heard of this show. I didn't find out about it until I was doing a Superman related search and it led me to the Superboy TV series. The show ran for four seasons from 1988-1992 and underwent two changes: lead actor (John Haymes Newton in season 1 to Gerard Christopher for seasons 2-4) and show title (from Superboy to The Adventures of Superboy). The show which follows a young Clark Kent and Lana Lang who are attending college at Shuster University was executive produced by Ilya and Alexander Salkind, who Superman fans know produced the first three Superman movies along with the Supergirl movie.

I was so intrigued by all of this that I went searching to see if the show was available on DVD. Turns out, yes and no. The first season is out of print but seasons 2-4 are available pretty much anywhere DVDs are sold. As I continued my search, I found the first season being sold for $6.00 from a private seller on the Barnes and Noble's website. I bought that DVD and then bought the other three seasons from Amazon (they were slightly cheaper). I know I lucked out on buying the first season for $6.00 because unfortunately, I've seen it being sold for so much more online which I think is ridiculous. That's nothing more than price gouging.

Anyway, I can't wait to start watching this show. Whether this series is good or bad, it will be interesting to see how Clark balances being in college while being a hero.

Mini Movie Reviews: Apparition, Door to the Other Side and The Cleansing Hour

I watched Apparition, Door to the Other Side and The Cleansing Hour and out of the three movies The Cleansing Hour was the best. The Apparition wasn't bad but it also wasn't great either, I'd rate it 2 stars. It definitely didn't have the best story and budget as the other two movies but it is watchable as a fairly decent, some what sub par horror movie. The story follows as a group of friends use an app that connects to ghosts and they end up having a frightful experience. I can't believe they would go to whatever place the ghostly connected app told them to go to and didn't expect something terrible to happen.

As for Door to the Other Side, I'd rate it 3 1/2 stars because the story was interesting as it focused on Tim an older guy who was a recluse but was being haunted. His therapists (and neighbors Nick and Joan) believed his problems were merely psychological but they were quickly learning that there was a ghostly connection. This felt like I was watching a ghostly psychological thriller and I enjoyed how the story played out.

Finally, The Cleansing Hour was so unexpectedly good as it followed Drew and Max, two friends who fake exorcisms for their online show until they had to deal with a real one. Max's fake image as a priest is so carefully crafted but he's nothing more than self-centered jerk who is looking for more attention. Initially, Drew and Max's both seem like really good friends but there are underlying issues which tie in perfectly with the story. I would rate this 5 stars, because it was really good.

I guess the unspoken question is are they rewatchable? For me, I would say yes. Although, full disclosure, I like horror movies so even if a movie is terrible, I would probably still rewatch it. Since all three movies ranged from okay to excellent, I'd rewatch them again.

What are you watching tonight?

I was thinking of watching a scary movie tonight. I'm just not sure which one of these three I should watch:Apparition (which is not to be confused with the other horror movie The Apparition (2012)), Door to the Other Side and The Cleansing Hour.

Each one has probably been sitting on my shelf longer than I would have like without having watched them. I've been trying to stick to my goal of not waiting until forever to watch my DVDs because what's the point of buying them if I don't watch them. Now I need to figure out which one (or two or all three) to watch tonight. Below is the description and trailers for each movie.

DVD Pick: The Cleansing Hour

This is probably not the most Easter appropriate movie to promote but a DVD I want to get is The Cleansing Hour. I love watching horror movies, from the good to the extremely bad and I want to see this. I guess faking exorcisms wasn't the best idea especially when it looks like they'll have to deal with a real one. This is why I want to watch this movie, I have to see how it'll end.

The Cleansing Hour

Starring: Ryan Guzman, Kyle Gallner, Alix Angelis, Chris Lew Kum Hoi, Daniel Hoffmann-Gill, Emma Holzer, Jynarra Brinson, Tara Karsian, Ana Udroiu and more

Director: Damien LeVeck

Description:

A live-stream exorcism goes viral in this bold, modern take on demonic possession.

Millennial entrepreneurs, Max and Drew run a popular webcast that streams “live exorcisms” that are, in fact, elaborately staged hoaxes watched by millions. However, their fortunes take a turn when during one of their webcasts, Drew's fiancée becomes mysteriously possessed by a real demon that takes the crew hostage. In front of a rapidly growing global audience, the demon subjects the crew to a series of violent and humiliating challenges that expose dark secrets they have been hiding from each other.

DVD Pick: The Kid Detective

I absolutely love mysteries and The Kid Detective looks like it has an interesting one with Abe, a former kid detective trying out his skills on what appears to be an extremely tough case. This makes me think of the child detective Encyclopedia Brown (from the book series) and if he had somehow ended up like Abe. I really want to know how the mystery will turn out and if it doesn't cost Abe his life in solving it.

The Kid Detective (Rated R)

Starring: Adam Brody, Sophie Nélisse, Sarah Sutherland, Jesse Noah Gruman, Wendy Crewson, Jonathan Whittaker, Peter MacNeill, Lisa Truong and more

Description:

A once-celebrated kid detective, now 32, continues to solve the same trivial mysteries between hangovers and bouts of self-pity. Until a naïve client brings him his first 'adult' case, to find out who brutally murdered her boyfriend.

DVD Pick: Fashionably Yours

I love Fashionably Yours, it's a really good movie which I've seen quite a few times. I like how Lauren and Rob are very much opposites of each other. Where she's very organized and follows a scheduled or her lists, he little more carefree and enjoys the unexpected. I had no idea this movie was just released on DVD this past Tuesday (1/12). This really is a cute and romantic movie.

Fashionably Yours

Starring: Kat Graham, Kendrick Sampson, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Jordan Claire Robbins, Jordan Claire Robbins, Camille Kostek and more

Description:

After years organizing fashion collections at a top magazine in the city, Lauren decides to move home. In exchange for her organizing services, mover Rob makes it his mission to help her see the beauty of Seattle.

DVD Pick: Down With Love

I recently bought one of my favorite Renée Zellweger movies, Down With Love. I haven't watched this movie is a long time, so as soon as I saw it at the store, I immediately grabbed it. I always thought it perfectly captured the magic of those Old Hollywood romantic comedies such as the ones that starred Doris Day.

Down With Love is such a wonderfully charming and romantic movie that it feels like an underrated gem. Not to be overlooked is the gorgeous wardrobe and the chic decor, this movie is an absolute style inspiration. Besides the style, glamour and romance, I love that Barbara Novak wrote a book that encouraged women to not except the sexist mistreatment of the era and to go after a more fulfilling life. I can't wait to rewatch Down With Love, this is a good movie and I truly recommend it.

Description:

It's 1962, and feminist Barbara Novak (Renée Zellweger) pens a best-selling book that details the drawbacks of love. She encourages women to forgo serious relationships with men in favor of independence, workplace achievements and satisfying sex. Despite her success, many men are taken aback by her progressive views, including slick writer Catcher Block (Ewan McGregor), who decides to expose Barbara as a fraud by making her fall in love with him. However, his plan has unexpected consequences.

DVD Pick: The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones

I considered myself to be a big Indiana Jones fan but it wasn't until recently that I found out there was a young Indiana Jones series. It was called The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles which it would later be renamed The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones when it was re-edit and released on DVD. The show starred Corey Carrier and Sean Patrick Flanery as the pre-teen and teen versions of Henry "Indiana" Jones, Jr. and aired for two seasons from 1992-1993. From what I gathered, the show follows young Indie as he goes on adventures and meets various historical figures along the way.

How did I not know this show existed? It's so funny because lately I keep finding a lot of shows from the 90s such as Hetty Wainthropp Investigates that I had no idea even existed. I've said this before and I'll continue saying it, I love watching and finding old shows. And as soon as I finish watching Hetty Wainthropp (I'm almost finished), I'll start watching this.

What old TV shows have you found or started watching?

DVD Pick: Corvette Summer

I know there are so many old movies I've never heard of which is why I love finding them. I recently bought Corvette Summer and the two reasons I got it is because first, I truly had no idea that Mark Hamill and Annie Potts had starred in a movie together. Second, the trailer makes it seem like the movie will be a fun and wacky romantic action comedy. Whether that's true or not, I won't know until I watch it.

According to a little research, this movie which was released in 1978 is considered a cult classic and it was Annie Potts' first big screen role. While it was Mark Hamill's next role after Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. If I have some extra time, I'll watch this tomorrow and post a review.

What old movies have you recently found?

Corvette Summer

Description:

A cherry Corvette Stingray. A gorgeous girl. And a summer in glittery Las Vegas. What more does a guy need for the wildest, weirdest, funniest, freakiest time of his life?

Mark Hamill and Annie Potts make comedic and romantic sparks fly in a revved-up tale of car-brained Kenny (Hamill), who trails a Corvette that's mysteriously boosted after his high-school shop class restores it to perfection. The trail leads to Fun Capital, USA, and a ditzy diversion (Potts) whose dream is to become...a hooker? This damsel in distress needs a white knight on a candy-apple, metal-flake, superior-mags, mercury-tubes steed - right, Kenny? Both are in for a summer they'll never forget.

DVD Pick: Hetty Wainthropp Investigates

I love finding new and old shows to watch for instance I just found Hetty Wainthropp Investigates. I had no idea this show even existed, it's a mystery series that aired for four seasons during the late 90s. It stars Patricia Routledge as Private Investigator Henrietta "Hetty" Wainthropp and Dominic Monaghan as her assistant Geoffrey Shawcross.

For anyone unfamiliar with Routledge, check out the 90s comedy series Keeping Up Appearances, she was fantastic as the snobbish high society wannabe Hyacinth Bucket. Meanwhile, Monaghan was recently in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker as supporting character historian Beaumont Kin and not to mention he was perfectly cast as the annoying yet adorable Hobbit Meriadoc "Merry" Brandybuck in The Lord of the Rings movies.

I'm going to start watching this tomorrow and I was wondering if I should review each episode (there's 27) or write something for each season. Either way, I'll post my thoughts on Hetty Wainthropp and I hope it'll be interesting watching a new (or new to me) mystery series.

DVD Pick: Little Women (2018)

It's not always easy to update a beloved classic story such as Little Women by Louisa May Alcott and it appears this updated version doesn't have a lot of fans especially since both the critics and viewers panned it.

When this movie was released last year, I had no interest in seeing it but now I want to see it. Odds are the movie is as terrible as it's been described but it would be nice if it turned out to be something fun and interesting to watch. Well, I won't know until I see it for myself. I'll see if I can find it in stores or order it online.

Description:

A modern retelling of Louisa May Alcott's classic novel, we follow the lives of four sisters - Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy March - detailing their passage from childhood to womanhood. Despite harsh times, they cling to optimism, and as they mature, they face blossoming ambitions and relationships, as well as tragedy, while maintaining their unbreakable bond as sisters.

DVD Pick: Scooby-Doo! and the Curse of the 13th Ghost

I don't know why Warner Bros. doesn't make more of an effort to promote the Scooby-Doo movies. As with the previous released movies, I stumbled upon this DVD at the store. I had no idea there was a new Scooby-Doo movie and now I can't help wondering why these movies don't get enough promotion?

As a Scooby-Doo fan I'm going to try to promote all the new movies especially since it doesn't seem like Warner Bros. is doing enough. I really can't wait to see this new movie, Curse of the 13th Ghost is a tie-in to the old Scooby-Doo animated series The 13th Ghosts of Scooby-Doo. I wonder if I should rewatch the old series before watching this, it has been a while since I've seen it.

Description:

After Mystery Inc. bumbles a case and nabs an innocent man, the gang is forced into early retirement from crime-solving. But it doesn't take long before their old friend Vincent Van Ghoul needs help and pulls the team right back into action. It all started one summer when Scooby-Doo, Shaggy and Daphne secretly tracked down 13 of the world's spookiest ghosts, and caught all but one. With the 13th ghost on the loose, the gang will have to leave their secrets in the past and settle some unfinished business. Bundle up and get ready for the icy slopes of the Himalayas, chilling car chases, crystal balls and spine-tingling spells in this terrifyingly fun original movie.

DVD Pick: Beauty and the Beast: The Complete Series

I have never seen this 1980's Beauty and the Beast TV series that starred Linda Hamilton as Catherine Chandler and Ron Perlman as Vincent. The show ran for three seasons (56 episodes) from 1987 to 1990 and the only reason I found out about it was that I recently saw that The CW's Beauty and the Beast TV series (which I love and it's still one of my favorite shows) was loosely based on the 80's version.

In fact I had no idea the original series even existed until I found out about that little bit of information. Since, I'm always looking for new (or new to me) TV series or movies I decided to get it so I can watch it.

Once I watch it, I will be see if there are any more similarities between the original series and the reboot besides the main characters names.

Beauty and the Beast: The Complete Series

Description:

Once upon a time is now and forever: Beauty and the Beast, the Emmy Award-winning, fan favorite show is more captivating than ever with The Complete Series. This unique fantasy-crime drama series features the adventures and romance between Vincent (Ron Perlman), a mythic, noble man-beast and Catherine (Linda Hamilton), a savvy assistant DA in New York. These two share a strong, mystical bond that enables Vincent while in his underground lair to sense whenever Catherine is in danger in the World Above.

I Need More Time to Watch TV!

I really underestimated my time in trying to watch all 85 episodes of True Blood when I posted back in July. At the moment, I'm currently at the last three episodes of season 2 which wouldn't be an issue if not for the fact that I'm also trying to watching all 160 episodes Pretty Little Liars (I'm only on the first season). The thing is I'm not a huge binge watcher, the most I can watch of one show (before getting restless) is between two to four episodes (depending on the show).

Since I apparently underestimated my TV watching time, I should probably start watching the 67 episodes of Game of Thrones seasons 1-7 as soon as possible. Back in November, I wrote about giving the series a second chance (the first time I tried to watch it, I couldn't get into it). Since then I was able to find the boxset (at a great price) and have just been trying to find the time to start watching it.

I'm starting to think I need to create a time management schedule so I'll have time to watch all three shows and all the other shows and movies I want to watch.

Who else needs more time to watch TV?

DVD Pick: Batman: The Animated Series (Blu-ray)

In my recent Comic Book Wednesday post, I mentioned how I was trying to find the Blu-ray edition of Batman: The Animated Series. And as you can see, I found it. I love that it includes three mini Funkos of Batman, Harley Quinn and the Joker. It arrived in the mail today and now I can't wait to watch at least an episode or two. I really want to see how good the episodes look remastered.

I had ordered it Wednesday afternoon, after I did a search and found out that Target had some in stock. I'm sure other stores are probably starting to get more back in but I just wanted to let you know where I found mine in case there is anyone still looking for one.

DVD Pick: Tragedy Girls

I know there are people who can't stand when actors, authors, etc. promote their projects but it's a good way to find out about something. For instance, if actress Alexandra Shipp hadn't recently tweeted about her movie Tragedy Girls I never would have known about it.

Since I had never heard of it, I looked the movie up and saw that it was released last year. After watching the trailer, I thought it looked really interesting with these two aspiring reporters turning into serial killers all so they gain social media fame. How outrageous is that?

I wanted to post this just in case anyone else never heard of it. I'm going to get the DVD/Blu-ray but it's also available digitally as well.

Starring: Alexandra Shipp, Brianna Hildebrand, Josh Hutcherson, Craig Robinson, Kevin Durand and more

Director: Tyler MacIntyre

Description:

Best friends Sadie and McKayla are on a mission to boost their social media fandom as amateur crime reporters hot on the trail of a deranged local serial killer. After they manage to capture the killer and secretly hold him hostage, they realize the best way to get scoops on future victims would be to, you know, murder people themselves. As the @TragedyGirls become an overnight sensation and panic grips their small town, can their friendship survive the strain of national stardom? Will they get caught? Will their accounts get verified?

DVD Pick: Truth or Dare

When Truth or Dare was released in theatres back in April, I had no desire to go see it only because it reminded me of a similar movie I watched that aired on the syfy channel. And I said I would wait for it come out on DVD/Blu-ray.

I guess it's a lucky thing I was at Target earlier today picking up a few things, I would not have known the movie was even out. But I didn't buy it then because there was only one left and it was damaged which is why I ordered it few moments ago.

Since I like horror movies, I hope this will be fun and scary to watch.

Description:

Olivia, Lucas and a group of their college friends travel to Mexico for one last getaway before graduation. While there, a stranger convinces one of the students to play a seemingly harmless game of truth or dare with the others. Once the game starts, it awakens something evil -- a demon which forces the friends to share dark secrets and confront their deepest fears. The rules are simple but wicked -- tell the truth or die, do the dare or die, and if you stop playing, you die.

DVD Pick: Daphne & Velma

If it wasn't for a trip to the store, I would have never known there was a Daphne & Velma movie. This is a Direct to Video movie that was apparently released on May 22nd.

I'm really surprised that I didn't hear anything about this movie until now. As a huge Scooby-Doo fan, I try to keep up on any news in the Scooby-Doo fandom but somehow I missed this. After looking at the trailer, I think the movie looks like it will be fun and interesting to watch as Daphne and Velma try to solve a mystery before they meet the other future members of Mystery Incorporated.

Starring: Sarah Jeffery, Sarah Gilman, Vanessa Marano, Courtney Dietz, Stephen Ruffin and more

Director: Suzi Yoonessi

Description:
