Fashion Meets Comics: Three Lois Lane Outfits (Adventures of Superman)

Due to the 1950s social norms Lois Lane's fashion choices while working at The Daily Planet were usually the skirt suit or a dress and jacket/cardigan. Lois during this time was still working in a predominately male industry and even on the show she was called a girl reporter despite being a woman.

Lois Lane (Phyllis Coates)

What I love about watching the Adventures of Superman series is that Lois never let her clothes stop her from pursuing an investigation which usually found her in daring and dangerous situations.

Clark Kent (George Reeves) and Lois Lane (Noel Neill)

For this Fashion Meets Comics, I didn't want to pick anything that would look like a vintage costume so I took a modern take on the 1950s look with three different outfits. In the series, her wardrobe was feminine but very tailored and structured. I wanted to keep that feel in what I selected as well as made sure to include the skirt suit but also added pants for an outfit. Since at the time women wore pants but it wasn't common to wear them to work. I even put together a look for Casual Friday that still had that 50s feel to it.

I've been trying to keep these Fashion Meets Comics posts to one outfit but sometimes it difficult to do that.

In Remembrance: Noel Neill

It was very sad to hear about the death of actress Noel Neill, she died this pass Sunday (July 3rd) in Tucson, AZ at the age of 95. It's been reported that she had been dealing with health problems.

She was most known for playing Lois Lane from not only the serials that played in the theatres during the 1940s and 1950s but for taking over the character on The Adventures of Superman TV series (seasons 2-6). She was also in a small scene in the 1978 Superman movie, it's the scene where Clark was racing pass the speeding train, she was the woman sitting next to the little girl who was looking out the window of the train. She along with Jack Larson appeared on a fourth season episode of the 1990s Superboy TV series. She was also in the opening scene of the movie Superman Returns, she was the dying older woman that Lex Luthor charmed into obtaining her fortune. I also forgot that Jack Larson also appeared in that movie, he was the bartender at the bar where Clark and Jimmy were at.

It's been almost three years since I bought all six seasons and of course watched every episode of Adventures of Superman, but in a way I'm still fairly new to the phenomena of that show. Noel Neill's performance of Lois Lane was spot on. She showed Lois as being strong-willed and inquisitive but surprisingly showed a softer flirtatious side in regard to Superman. But I love how exasperated she would get sometimes with Clark Kent especially with all his evasiveness. In a way Jimmy Olsen was her sidekick because no matter what foolish idea either of them came up with to get to the bottom of a story, they would always end up pursuing it and most likely requiring a little assistance from Superman.

To anyone who may not know, Noel Neill was the first to portray Lois Lane onscreen. To a legendary actress, I would like to wish her family and those who cared about her my condolences. May She Rest in Peace.

In Remembrance: Jack Larson

It was sad to hear the news about the death of actor and playwriter Jack Larson. According to reports, at the age of 87, Larson died Sunday, September 20, 2015 peacefully in his sleep with his loyal dog by his side in his home in Brentwood, CA.

Although, he was best known for playing Jimmy Olsen on the 1950s Superman series "Adventures of Superman" he made a career from writing and producing.

Adventures of Superman is a show that I recently started watching about 2 years ago when I purchased all six seasons of the show. I thought his version of Jimmy Olsen was great, because he brought to the screen the perfect amount of dorkiness. Jimmy was never cool and this series showed it, which is why I adore Larson's Olsen.  He was a complete dork but he also possessed all the other good qualities that Jimmy had.

I always saw Jimmy Olsen as a geek who enjoyed life and Larson's portrayal was simply spot on.
