Review:

The description for this volume was misleading because thankfully there was no fight between Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers) and the original Captain Marvel (Monica Bambeau). Superheroes fighting each other is such a boring cliché.

In issues #7 and #8, Carol was down in New Orleans working with Monica to try to figure out what was causing the disappearance of planes and ships in the area. Also, there but mainly getting in the way was Frank Gianelli, one of Carol's old friend and colleague. The cause of all the problems surprised even them and required a unique way to fix it. This had a nice ending.

Issues #9-12, had Carol back home in New York City dealing with one issue after the next. Including, experiencing a lot of severe headaches which seem to get worse whenever she uses her flying abilities. Her doctor instructed her not to fly but how do you stop doing something that is so natural to you. But after a disastrous fight with an old enemy Deathbird, Carol had no choice but to stop flying. However, her new assistant Wendy Kawasaki came up with an interesting way to keep Captain Marvel in the air...Captain America's flying motorcycle.

There seems to be a connection between Deathbird's reappearance and Captain Marvel's headaches and it all coincides with someone mysterious trying to manipulate Carol into reacting a certain way. And to top it all off, she may be getting evicted from her apartment.

I really like this. The writing was very good and the artwork wasn't bad despite having two different artists. There were a few cameos that I really liked, such as:

- Seeing the original Captain Marvel (Monica Rambeau), that was awesome. Why doesn't she have her own series?

- Tony Stark being his usual annoyingly charming self.

 - Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew), fun as always.

- Captain America (Steve Rogers), always doling out good advice.

- Dakota North, tough as ever.


Overall, this was a good read and I really can't wait to read the next group of issues.

Currently Reading: Killer Heels, Black Canary and Zatanna: Bloodspell and Captain Marvel vol #2 (Marvel Now)

This morning I was looking for something fun and different to read and pulled out these three books:

Killer Heels seems like it will be a fun read. As for Black Canary and Zatanna: Bloodspell, I can't believe I just unsealed this book. I bought it last June and it has been sitting on the shelf since then.

I had read the first volume of the Marvel Now Captain Marvel series some time last year and haven't found a chance to read it since. Since then Marvel has published an entirely new Captain Marvel series and to no surprise to anyone who visits my blog, I also have those issues but I haven't read them yet.

Well, hopefully these three books will be a fun read.

Book: Killer Heels (Molly Forrester Mystery book #1) by Sheryl J. Anderson

Review:

There was quite a bit of controversy when this series started, the criticism mainly focused on changing Ms. Marvel's code name to Captain Marvel and the changes made to her costume.

I had no problem with either changes, because I think they were perfectly good changes. Carol's new costume is tough yet still feminine and as for her taking over the Captain Marvel mantel shows that she is more than just a sidekick or just one of the numerous members of The Avengers. Although they showed that Carol was a little apprehensive to take on the new title especially since Mar-Vell her friend had been Captain Marvel.

I truly enjoyed reading this new take on Carol Danvers, these first six issues had her going back in time meeting up with a band of unknown women soldiers, the Banshee Squad during World War II and trying to fix a problem her mentor pilot Helen Cobb may have inadvertently caused.

This was not only a well written and interesting group of issues but it showed why Carol is a worthy member of The Avengers. She's smart, tough, compassionate and a true hero.

The one issue I had with this first group of issues was the changing artists, it would have been better if they would have just stuck with one artist so it wouldn't be so jarring at time. Artwork aside, this was a wonderful start to a new series.
