Art of the Day: Roy and Lian Harper

Artwork: Roy and Lian Harper by lorainesammy

I think Convergence gave DC Comics a chance to acknowledge many of the mistakes they made which included killing off Lian Harper. That storyline had struck a major cord with fans who saw no point in killing off the character.

So I consider Convergence: The Titans as an olive branch from DC Comics to fans since readers got a chance to see Roy reunited with his daughter.

Comic Book Wednesday: May 27th Picks

Happy Comic Book Wednesday!

Small list but still some good picks. I also have two new books on my list: Inferno (Marvel) and the miniseries Secret War Journal (Marvel).

This is the last week of Convergence and like I said last week I'm sad to see it end. These were a good group of stories. They really made me miss the pre-New 52. I'm not exactly thrilled with the upcoming DC You (or New 49 as some call it), especially not with the poor treatment that Lois Lane and Clark Kent/Superman will be getting. Well, now that's a discussion for another post.

Anyway, here is my list for the week:

DC Comics

Batman 66 #23

Book: Batman '66 #23

Description:

Two villains from Batman's classic Rogues Gallery get the '66 treatment in two separate stories! First, Hilda, aunt of Marsha Queen of Diamonds, messes with forces beyond her control and brings forth Solomon Grundy.

Then, when False Face goes looking for a shape-shifting formula, he ends up creating Clayface!

Here's my list for the week:

Comic Book Wednesday: May 13th Picks

Happy Comic Book Wednesday!

Anyone reading the Convergence books? Out of my comic book friends I'm probably reading the most books with a few only reading one or two books. Which had me wondering if there was any interest in this event? For me, I like seeing the old characters, yes some of them may not be written like they were prior to the reboot but it's still nice seeing them. Because once Convergence is over it's back to the status quo on the New 52 (New 49).

Other than that today is going to be a big issue for Thor, this issue is supposed to reveal her identity. It will be interesting to see who is now the Thunder God.

So what's everyone else picking up?

DC Comics

Book: Convergence #6 (of 8)

Description:

Free of the reign of Telos, a pantheon of heroes unite at last in an effort to defend their collective cities - but they did not count on the threat of Deimos, who suddenly seems to possess the power to tear the Multiverse apart at the seams!

Comic Book Wednesday: May 6th Picks

Happy Comic Book Wednesday!

Aside from the Convergence books, there is only one new thing on my list this week, Wonder Woman '77. I can finally read this, although it's a digital first series, I prefer to wait for the print edition. There is also another book on my list although not new but it hasn't been on there for a while, Rocket Girl. I was surprised to see a book out for this series, I thought it was either cancelled or it is was over.

Today is also the last issue for the Peggy Carter/Howard Stark miniseries, Operation S.I.N.. Anyone else reading this?

Anyway, here is the rest of my list:

DC Comics

Convergence #5 (of 8)

Comic Book Wednesday: April 29th Picks

Happy Comic Book Wednesday!

My list is short this time and the only thing new on it is a special issue of Steven Universe. There is something that I do wish was on my list and that's Scarlett Couture, unfortunately the comic book store is not carrying it. So, that means I'll have to pick it up in the trade edition when it becomes available.

Archie Comics

Comic Book Wednesday: April 22nd Picks

Happy Comic Book Wednesday!

My Convergence books for this week are pretty slim, as much as I would love to buy them all I can't. There are a few that I'm still thinking about picking up.

There are only three new books on my list, two specials: Littlest Pet Shop and Avengers Operation Hydra and a new series: Uncle Scrooge. I hope the Avengers special doesn't sell out because I forgot to have it pulled at the comic book store.

Anyway, what's on your list?

DC Comics

Batman 66 #22

Book: Batman '66 #22

Description:

The guest team of writer Ray Fawkes (BATMAN ETERNAL, CONSTANTINE) and artist Jon Bogdanove (SUPERMAN: THE MAN OF STEEL) bring back Marsha, Queen of Diamonds, for another bejeweled bout with the Dynamic Duo. When she strikes at a gala ball for Gotham City's elite, will even guests Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson fall under her spell?

Comic Book Wednesday: April 15th Picks

Happy Comic Book Wednesday!

I had a hard time whittling my Convergence books to the ones on this list. There are just so many of them that I would like to read. Maybe I'll pick up some at a later date.

A book I do want to highlight is Sensation Comics Featuring Wonder Woman because Lois Lane will be in it. Yay! And speaking of Lois Lane, over the weekend I ordered Fallout by Gwenda Bond and it should be arriving any day now. There has been such a huge demand for this book that it's actually being shipped out ahead of it's release date. So, congratulations to author Gwenda Bond for putting Lois Lane back in the spotlight, I can't wait to read the book. I also will be posting two reviews for short stories by Gwenda Bond about Lois that take place before the Fallout book.

Aside from the many Convergence books on my list and my regulars, the only other new thing is the Archie vs. Predator miniseries. After I read a few sample pages I knew this had to be on my list.

Anyway, what books are you going to picking up this week?

DC Comics

Convergence #2 (of 8)

Book: Convergence #2 (of 8)

Description:

As Telos, the Planet Incarnate, easily defeats the survivors of Earth 2, Thomas Wayne and Dick Grayson set off to find help in the pre-Flashpoint Gotham City.

The emotional implication of these worlds colliding comes crashing down when Thomas Wayne confronts this world's Batman, as father meets son! Plus, Alan Scott's attempts to connect with The Green yield unexpected results, setting our team on a quest to escape the planet.

And the cyborgs of Futures End engage in a battle to the death against the reimagined heroes of the Just Imagine Universe, while the city of Superman Red and Blue takes on the opposing forces from GENERATIONS!

Comic Book Wednesday: April 8th Picks

Happy Comic Book Wednesday!

DC Comics' Convergence event really kicks off today and with most of the books on my list (10 out of 17) are a part of that then it's safe to assume that I can't wait to pick up this week's comics.

Other than all the Convergence stuff there's nothing new on my list but there is little sad news for fans of Miles Morales, this is the last issue of Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man. Hopefully, Marvel will maybe add him to another series because Miles is an awesome character and shouldn't be shelved for too long.

My list is shy a few of my regular books, but I'm going to be picking up those series in the trade edition.

Archie Comics

Jughead & Archie Comics Double Digest #11

Book: Jughead and Archie Comics Double Digest #11

10 More Convergence Tie-in Books

I have to say I think DC may have actually thought this event out before launching it. So far from the book titles and descriptions I've read over it seems like they are trying to give readers a broad selection of stories.

Book: Superman: Man of Steel

Writer: Louise Simonson
Artist: June Brigman and Roy Richardson, with color by John Rauch

Description:

Metropolis was taken when Superman was missing, so it’s up to Steel to guard the city from the heroes of GEN13 in his absence.

Comic Book News: DC Comics' most anticipated new event: Convergence 2015 (and 10 upcoming tie-in miniseries)

Why is it the most anticipated? Because DC Comics is planning on bring back the old DCU (pre New 52)....well, for a little while. There will be a break in the regular comics being published to showcase this event.

From what little information I can gather, Convergence is going to be some huge crossover event (yeah again) that will start April 1, 2015. According to DC Comics, the story will focus on Brainiac attempting an experiment by taking some of his bottled cities to various timelines and planets and see how the bottled inhabitants will thrive in a new environment. Another new villain will also be introduced.

Two series to keep an eye on, Futures End and Earth 2: World's End will both lead up to the event. Convergence will be written by Jeff King with art by Carlo Pagulayan and Stephen Segovia. There will also be 40 two-part tie-in miniseries that will be bringing back some fan favorite characters such as Stephanie Brown as Batgirl, Wally West as The Flash and more as well as the marriage of Lois and Clark. I hope DC brings back Helena Bertinelli as Huntress because that would be awesome if they do.

For Batgirl I'm really surprised Bryan Q. Miller wasn't the writer for that mini. It's been a while that DC had something I was actually excited about reading. I really can't wait for this.

Several of the tie-in books have already been announced, below are the first 10:

Book: Superman

Writer: Dan Jurgens
Artist: Lee Weeks and Dan Jurgens/Norm Rapmund

Description:

Superman and Lois deal with the impending birth of their child as he is called in to protect the city.
