Book of Interest: Star Wars: Legacy

I think Rey Palpatine could have become a really interesting character but the Disney Star Wars Sequel movies didn't really give her a chance to be that. Yes, she's the hero but where was her compelling story. Her story mostly felt like a rehash of Anakin and Luke Skywalkers' stories making her a rather boring character with no real story of her own. It's as if they were playing it safe and didn't quite know what to do with her. Maybe this new movie (if it actually happens) that she will appear in will actually make improvements to her character. And hopefully this book Star Wars: Legacy by Madeleine Roux will also do a better job with her character than the sequel movies did.

The description for Legacy actually seems interesting with General Leia Organa and Rey finding an old Jedi temple. And what they may find inside, might help with Rey's Jedi training but the temple apparently hold some sort of great mystery they will need to unravel. I will be adding this to my list.

Fashion Meets Fandom: Rey Palpatine (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker)

One thing I noticed in the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy is that Rey Palpatine's clothes always seemed like they were very comfortable. And I'm sure being a Jedi or a Jedi in training as she continued to be in the beginning of The Rise of Skywalker, the last thing Rey probably wanted to worry about was uncomfortable clothes while trying to deal with Kylo Ren, The First Order and the return of her grandfather Sheev Palpatine.

In the beginning of Rey's story or journey in The Force Awakens she probably wore whatever comfortable item she could find or scraped up enough money to buy from vendors or stalls while living on the desolate planet Jakku. I'm sure whether it was stylish or fashionable didn't factor into her decision because whatever she was wearing was a necessity.

Who should have been the Jedi in the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy: Finn or Rey?

There seems to be this debate among Star Wars fans that in the Disney Sequel Trilogy, Finn should have been the Jedi instead of Rey Palpatine. I've seen where many seem to think Rey's story was a rehash of Luke Skywalker's story which I can agree with. And that Finn being a former First Order Stormtrooper turned Rebel was a more unique story which I also agree with.

As for me, I feel like there was room in the trilogy for both Finn and Rey to have been Jedi. I never understood why there was just one, it didn't have to be the same as in the original trilogy. After the death of Obi-Wan and Yoda, Luke was the last Jedi (no I'm not dismissing Leia but that's a discussion for another post) and he had a huge responsibility to stop Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine while the Rebellion itself fought the Empire.

With Rey being the only Jedi, it did feel like a retelling of Luke's story. The Sequel Trilogy should have had more than one Jedi. It would have added a different dynamic to the story and showed how much things have changed over the odd 30 years since Luke was the only Jedi. Although, Ben Solo killed Luke's Jedi students and burned down Luke's Jedi temple, I figured over the 30 years there should have been more of Luke's Jedi out there in the galaxy. It made no sense for Rey to have been the only Jedi in this sequel trilogy but I guess that's the story the sequels were going with.

Fandom Friday: Why I Think Rey Should Have Kept Palpatine as her Last Name

In Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, I think Rey should have kept Palpatine as her last name because by changing it to Skywalker it felt like she was running away from who she is. The theme for the movie was to be yourself and even General Leia Organa told Rey to "never be afraid of who you are".

I don't know what it is about the 70s but I just love the aesthetics. And it's one of the reasons why I want to get this Rey Palpatine t-shirt. It's really cool, it makes Rey seem like she's part of the original Star Wars trilogy.

Fandom Friday: What Star Wars Sequel Trilogy Character Should get a Book or Comic Book?

A Star Wars sequel trilogy character I think should get a book or comic book series is Finn. I wrote something similar about this before for another Fandom Friday. But after seeing someone ask this question online today, I knew I had to answer it again on my blog.

There is so much about his character that hasn't been explored and a book or comic book would be a great way to continue his story. Finn is one of my favorite characters from the Disney Star Wars trilogy. But he was so underutilized and his story went absolutely no where after The Force Awakens. As much as I love Rey Palpatine (yes, I call her by that name, I'll post why at another time), I wish Finn had been the Jedi. He had such an interesting story of being a child who had been taken by the First Order brainwashed and trained to be a Stormtrooper. He overcame his conditioning and joined the heroes of the Resistance. And if that wasn't already interesting, can you imagine how it would have been if he had found out that he was a Jedi as well. That would have been so cool to see.

I feel like with Rey, I've seen her story before with Anakin and Luke Skywalker. It didn't feel new or different because like Anakin and Luke, she was from a desert planet and similar to Luke she later found out she was related to someone evil. But if Finn was the Jedi, it would have been something different and not something that was rehashed like with Rey.

I keep hoping he will get a book or comic book series and I will keep pushing for it and answering this question every time I see or hear it being asked. I really want to see Finn continue with his hero's journey as a General of the Resistance and also becoming a Jedi. I do like that The Rise of Skywalker showed scenes where he was very much in tune with the Force and could sense things happening. I just want to see that continue.

When Luke projected his image on Crait in The Last Jedi for the fight against his nephew Kylo Ren, I wish his lightsaber from Return of the Jedi was the one he used. I know Luke was trying to unnerve Kylo by showing himself younger and using Anakin's lightsaber. But as a fan it would have been nice to have seen him using his green lightsaber one last time and not just in a flashback scene.

I don't know why Anakin's lightsaber was treated as such a big deal in the Disney trilogy. I also think Rey should have made or had her own lightsaber in The Rise of Skywalker instead of using the Anakin/Luke lightsaber. It would have shown how much she had grown in her training and that she didn't feel the need to "earn" Luke's lightsaber. It was such a waste to show her new lightsaber in the last scenes when she could have been using it throughout the movie.

Toy Corner: Star Wars Barbie Dolls: C-3PO, Chewbacca, Rey and Stormtrooper

Barbie is adding four new dolls to its Star Wars collection. This second collection includes dolls inspired by C-3PO, Chewbacca, Rey and a Stormtrooper. Last year, Barbie released dolls inspired by Darth Vader, Princess Leia and R2-D2 Dolls, I guess the first collection was so popular the company decided to create more.

These dolls which are really cool are mainly for collecting or displaying only especially for the price. C-3PO, Rey and Stormtrooper are $100 each while Chewbacca is $150. I'm not sure why Chewbacca is $50 more perhaps it all the faux-fur featured throughout the costume. The only one you can buy right now is the Stormtrooper, however, you can pre-order the other three dolls.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker "They Fly Now" Clip

This is a cool action packed scene from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker but it's the reaction from C-3PO, Finn and Poe that made me laugh so much. I can't believe after they saw stromtroopers flying using jet packs they each repeated "they fly now". I wouldn't be surprised if Chewbacca said the same thing. Especially, since he said something first.

That little bit of dialogue was so unexpectedly funny that it stood out more than the action. What do you think ridiculously funny or just ridiculous?

Trailer for "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker"

I know most have seen this trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, I meant to post it several days ago but I was still processing it. I'm excited to see this movie, I think it's going to be a thrilling finale to the series. It's really good seeing Lando back and I love that this trailer has a lot of Finn/Poe scenes but it's also sad seeing General Leia and that scene of C-3PO. I hope it doesn't mean this will be the end of the know-it-all droid, he's one of my favorite characters. If it is, I just hope they give him a proper send off.

I can't believe it's the end of this chapter of Star Wars, we all know it's not truly the end of this franchise just the end of the Skywalker saga. The movie will be in theatres Friday, December 20th.
