Happy International Women's Day! (+ a Geeky Holiday Movie List)

To all women, which includes trans women and women with disabilities (who both unfortunately tend to be overlooked by society), we are so powerful and strong and definitely matter. Women may not always get the appreciation for all that we do but that doesn't stop us from striving and continuing to make a difference and break barriers.

So, to women worldwide, I want celebrate our strength, perseverance, achievements and empowerment. To our continued fight for education, equality, equal pay, reproductive rights, disability rights and our continued fight against racism, sexism, etc. and ending wars and genocide as we fight for a better world.

Happy International Women's Day! Below is a mini list of movies that celebrate women being awesome.

Happy 4th Anniversary, Birds of Prey!

The Birds of Prey movie was released in theatres February 7, 2020. And it's such a fun, ridiculous and underrated film that I really wish had gotten a sequel. It's a spellbinding story that follows as Harley Quinn attempts to change her life now that she had ended things with the Joker. Yeah, she's a total mess but a fun mess who can totally take care of herself. Meeting fellow misfits (Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya) and trying to protect a little girl, Cassandra Cain from Black Mask made this a weirdly fanscinating story.

I remember going to see this on a Saturday with some friends and I really enjoyed watching Birds of Prey. Between the zany story and equally zany characters and cool fight and action scenes this really was an interesting movie. Yes, these were not the comic book version of Birds of Prey and other DC Comics characters but the movie adapted them in a unique way that went perfectly with this chaotic movie. I noticed that as time goes by, there are more and more fans who have grown to really appreciate this fun little movie. If I have time today, I think I'll rewatch it. It's been a while since I've seen this movie.

Happy fourth year anniversary to the Birds of Prey movie!

Happy Galentine's Day!

It’s time to celebrate our friends, the ones who have been there to laugh and have fun with or to cry with when times get tough. Either way you know you can always depend on them to be there for you. They're our amazing friends and this is the time to let them know how loved and important they are to us. So on that note, I want to wish everyone a very Happy Galentine's Day! Be sure to let your friends know how much you care about them.

Below is a list of movies that celebrate the awesomeness of friendship. If you're looking for more movies, here is a link to last year's list.

Fashion Meets Comics: Black Canary Shirt (Birds of Prey)

Black Canary was so much fun in the Birds of Prey movie and I'm happy to see more merchandise for this version of the character. I love everything about this shirt except for the straps in the cutout. It's too distracting, I would definitely have to cut them off and other than that I really like this shirt.

Fashion Meets Comics: Harley Quinn's T-Shirt (Birds of Prey)

From looking at the Birds of Prey trailer you can see that Harley Quinn is going to be wearing some really cool and quirky fashion in the movie. This Harley Quinn t-shirt is probably one of her more milder looks.

This shirt I found below is not exactly like the one Harley is wearing in the movie but it's close to the design. I think it would be pretty cool to wear it to the Birds of Prey movie. I don't know if this shirt is as sheer as the one Harley is wearing but if it is, wear a tank or cami underneath it while pairing it with jeans or shorts with tights or maybe a quirky skirt. However you wear it, don't forget to add some cool accessories à la Harley Quinn.

Weekend Film: Birds of Prey

This movie looks like it's going to be absolutely wild. I can't wait to see it. As excited as I am to see Birds of Prey, I do hope they will eventually get costumes. This is the first time Black Canary and Huntress will appear on the big screen and I would just love to see the costumes for this version of the characters. Well if it doesn't happen in this move, maybe in the sequel.

Alright, raise your hands, whose going to see Birds of Prey? I really can't wait to see this movie. If you've seen it, let us know what you think but please no spoilers.

Starring: Margot Robbie, Rosie Perez, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Ewan McGregor, Ella Jay Basco, Chris Messina and more

Director: Cathy Yan

Description:

You ever hear the one about the cop, the songbird, the psycho and the mafia princess? “Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)” is a twisted tale told by Harley herself, as only Harley can tell it. When Gotham’s most nefariously narcissistic villain, Roman Sionis, and his zealous right-hand, Zsasz, put a target on a young girl named Cass, the city is turned upside down looking for her. Harley, Huntress, Black Canary and Renee Montoya’s paths collide, and the unlikely foursome have no choice but to team up to take Roman down.

Trailer for the "Birds of Prey" movie

I had mixed feelings before about seeing the Birds of Prey movie which is in theatres February 7, 2020. However, I think my opinion is starting to change because this trailer looks really good. It looks like it's going to be a zany mess and I can't wait to see it. In all honesty, why wasn't this movie called Harley Quinn? This feels like a solo movie for the character because she certainly is the focus of not only this first trailer but also the newly released promos and posters for the film.

Meanwhile, the Birds of Prey (Black Canary and Huntress) and Renee Montoya and Cassandra Cain feel like nothing more than supporting characters. Maybe when more trailers are released there will be more attention shown towards the other characters because so far this truly feels like a Harley movie.

What do you think of trailer? Does it make you want to see the movie?

"Birds of Prey" Teaser Trailer

Here's the teaser trailer for the upcoming Birds of Prey movie which is scheduled to be in theaters February 7, 2020.

I'm a big Birds of Prey fan, I love the comics that featured Oracle, Black Canary, Huntress and Lady Blackhawk as the four main characters and on occasion they would receive a little help from other heroes. With that said you would think I would be over the moon excited for this movie. However, so far I don't have any interest in wanting to see it. Maybe by the time a full length trailer and promotion materials are released, I will have changed my mind and gained some kind of interest.

Whether I find interest in the movie or not, I do hope is that it will lead to a Gotham City Sirens movie because that's something I'm really interested in seeing. I would rather see Harley Quinn is a movie with Catwoman and Poison Ivy teaming up and causing a lot of trouble than pairing up with heroes.
