Most Memorable Scene: Ghostbusters Library Opening Scene

I love the opening scene from the first Ghostbusters movie because it was just a normal scene at the New York City Public Library. That is until the librarian, Alice goes downstairs to re-stock or re-shelve some books. Then it turns into a rather interesting and spooky scene. When the books floated across the aisle she didn't quite catch it. But she did catch something in the side of her eye because it caused her to pause for a bit. However, she continued on.

I guess the ghost was trying to get the librarian's attention with the floating books, however Alice didn't quite catch it. So, the ghost then escalated things by pulling out some of the drawers and tossing the index cards. The librarian couldn't help but notice that and started screaming and running which had the ghost going after her. Did the ghost not want anyone downstairs? It's not as if the librarian was making a lot of noise. No, Alice was quiet and wasn't making any noise, so why terrorize her? I wonder how long the ghost had been haunting the building?

Something I really liked about this scene, is that viewers don't see the ghost until the soon to be Ghostbusters (Dr. Peter Venkman, Dr. Egon Spengler and Dr. Ray Stantz) see it. And once they did, they had absolutely no idea what to do with it. The ghost ended up scaring them out of the library.

Happy International Women's Day! (+ a Geeky Holiday Movie List)

To all women, which includes trans women and women with disabilities (who both unfortunately tend to be overlooked by society), we are so powerful and strong and definitely matter. Women may not always get the appreciation for all that we do but that doesn't stop us from striving and continuing to make a difference and break barriers.

So, to women worldwide, I want celebrate our strength, perseverance, achievements and empowerment. To our continued fight for education, equality, equal pay, reproductive rights, disability rights and our continued fight against racism, sexism, etc. and ending wars and genocide as we fight for a better world.

Happy International Women's Day! Below is a mini list of movies that celebrate women being awesome.

Trailer: Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

When the teaser trailer for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire was released, I thought it looked better than the last movie Afterlife. And now after watching the trailer, I still think the same thing. This really does feel like they made a better effort to create an interesting story and instead of a bland story that was in the last movie.

Anyway, this looks like it might be a really good movie. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire will be in theatres Friday, March 22nd.

Christmas Countdown Day #3: Ghostbusters 2 Montage Scene

What I found interesting about Ghostbusters 2 is that it's a Christmas and New Year's Eve movie. But for Christmas it's sort of understated. There are Christmas decorations in various scenes, the red and green lettering on the Ecto-1 sign, the Ghostbusters wearing Santa hats and even a Santa on one of the streets. It's been a while since I've watched the movie but I don't recall (please correct me if I'm wrong) seeing any decorations in the firehouse. Like I said it wasn't overtly stated.

Meanwhile, New Years Eve was more pronounced with the decorations and crowd cheering and celebrating. Anyway, here's the montage scene of the Ghostbusters back to ghostbusting which features a little bit of Christmas.

Teaser Trailer: Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

I'm still disappointed that the 2016 Ghostbusters movie didn't get a sequel. And when it was announced and released in theatres the movie was unfortunately dismissed by some fans simply because it was a women's led Ghostbusters movie. That was a fun and interesting movie that had a perfect blend of drama, comedy and supernatural. It was new while still honoring the original Ghostbusters. Too bad it ended up being treated as something divisive.

Compare that to how Ghostbusters: Afterlife was announced and released, those same fans who dismissed the 2016 movie treated this one better. I found it disappointing that when Afterlife was announced, the director and writer of the film Jason Reitman stated that this movie will "hand it back to the fans" as if the 2016 movie wasn't for Ghostbusters fans. To me Afterlife wasn't as good as the 2016 movie, it was boring and had a little too much emphasis on nostalgia. At least the trailer for the second movie Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire looks like it's going to have a better story than the first movie. And it even looks way more interesting.

So far a release date for Frozen Empire hasn't been stated but I'm sure it will be announced soon.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

Description:

Fandom Friday: Random Fandom Thoughts #7

Happy Friday, what fandom thoughts are on your mind?

- I started rewatching the first season of NCIS: Los Angeles and out of the first nine episodes, I noticed that the agents, G. Callen, Sam Hanna and Kensi Blye rarely identify themselves as NCIS. And since they're in plain clothes and don't identify themselves, it's no wonder why most if not all of the people they're investigating either run from them, fight or attack them, or shoot at them when the agents show up.

Toy Corner: Ghostbusters Statues

I'm a big Ghostbusters fan and I would be one happy collector if I had these statues of Ray Stantz, Egon Spengler, Winston Zeddmore and Peter Venkman. They're amazing, just look at the quality and craftsmanship that went into created them. I am disappointed that Janine Melnitz doesn't have a statue. How could you leave out Janine, she's part of the team too?

As much as I would love to get these statues, they're $400 each which is pretty steep but yeah this would be an awesome find.

Is there a collectible you wish you could buy but it cost too much? Yeah, let me know because I'll totally sympathize with you.

Trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife

I still think it's disappointing that so many Ghostbusters fans didn't give the 2016 movie a chance before hating on it and the actors in the film. It was like an overwhelming amount of hate directed at that movie for no reason and still is. I can understand critiquing a film but they weren't doing that, they were purposely going after the movie and many without having never seen it. I thought it was a great movie that did a good job of honoring the original Ghostbusters movies while at the same time presenting something new.

I found the reaction by fans for this upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife movie to be starkly different. I noticed there is no hysterical anger and it's not hard to figure out why? I found it disappointing that when this movie was announced, the director and writer of the film Jason Reitman stated that this movie will "hand it back to the fans" as if the 2016 movie wasn't for Ghostbusters fans. This movie feels like something put out to soothed the fans who were mad about the 2016 movie.

After watching this trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife, it feels more like it's a continuation of Netflix's Stranger Things TV series instead of feeling like Ghostbusters. Despite, the terrible behavior of fans and the director's statement, I am interested in seeing the movie. Hopefully, it will be good and not nostalgia bait created to appease angry fans.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is scheduled to be in theaters July 10, 2020.

Would you have hired Kevin for the Receptionist job in Ghostbusters?

Before I answer this question, I would like to go over my thoughts about Kevin. He truly was not qualified for the job as the Receptionist for the Conductors of the Metaphysical Examination (a.k.a. Ghostbusters). However, it's not as if Dr. Abby Yates, Dr. Erin Gilbert and Dr. Jillian Holtzmann received a lot of applicants for the position. In fact, he was the only one who inquired about the job. I figured they must have been very desperate for help if they were willing to hire him. Side note, hiring Patty Tolan was a good decision because unlike Kevin she brought a lot of knowledge, skill and competence in her job as a Ghostbuster.

Kevin was so bad at his job, he could barely answer the phone and take messages properly or inform the ladies ahead of time that they had a client or visitor who was there. You start to wonder why they didn't fire him? Well, I guess they were so used to him being at the office that despite his incompetence they didn't want to fire him. He does have a cheerful and bubbly personality and adds a touch of whimsy throughout the office. He makes me think of a Ken doll that's brought to life who really can't do anything but he does have an enthusiasm for life.

From a business standpoint, it probably would have been better to have set up an answering system for phone calls and then if anyone was in the office they could greet potential clients until they could hire an efficient Receptionist. However, odds are they would be waiting a long time before anyone else applied for the job. So, it probably didn't make any sense to get rid of Kevin because bad help is better than no help, I guess. Kevin may not be the smartest person but he does bring a sense of unexpected humor to the office.

Now to answer the question of whether I would have hired Kevin, my answer is no. As much as I think he's a wonderfully exuberant person, I think he's terrible at his job. And in all the time he was working there, he did not seem like he was getting any better at his job either. He reminds me of the character Synclaire James from the 90s TV series Living Single. She was just as naive, clueless and inept as he was and the only reason she had the job as Receptionist (and later Office Manger) for Flavor magazine was because her cousin Khadijah James is the Publisher and Editor of the magazine. So unless Kevin was a family member who truly needed a job (temporarily), there is no way I would have hired him otherwise.

Favorite Fictional Bookworm: Patty Tolan

I like Patty Tolan, she's smart, outgoing, extremely well-read and very knowledgeable about so many things including the history of New York City. I don't think her intelligence was appreciated enough because although she may not be a scientist like the other members of the Ghostbusters, Patty's knowledge helped them out on many occasions.

She's also a total bookworm who has a big interest in reading nonfiction books. Prior to Patty becoming a Ghostbuster, she worked as an MTA worker and she would keep a stack of books in her booth to read whenever she took a break or it was a slow day at work. In the Ghostbusters novelization by Nancy Holder, it was mentioned that Patty had turned her booth into her private library and was reading the nonfiction book The Gangs of New York (which was written by Herbert Asbury).

I think Patty is a great character, not only is she fun and easygoing but also inquisitive and informative and not to mention a huge bookworm.

The Book Girl's Book Club Pick for October: Ghostbusters (Novelization)

Good Morning, it's the first day of October and that means it's 31 days of Halloween. And it also means it time for a new book club pick. I wanted to pick something that would be perfect for such a spooktacular month and I couldn't think of a better pick than the Ghostbusters novelization. I love this movie and still wish it had gotten a sequel but reading this book should make for a fun read.
