Fashion Meets Comics: Kara Danvers (Supergirl)

In the beginning of the Supergirl episode The Bodyguard (season 5 episode 14), Kara Danvers, her sister Alexandra "Alex" and her friend and co-worker Nia Nal were at the Obsidian Platinum virtual pop up. As they were leaving, Alex's girlfriend Dr. Kelly Olsen arrived with a cute little bento box with food for Alex. So, while Kara was being adorably nosey and a little too interested in the dumplings that were in the box, she was wearing this really nice tie waist trench coat.

Lately, I've been thinking of rewatching Supergirl. Now that Superman & Lois will be ending, I wonder if Supergirl will make a surprise appearance in the final season. That would so cool if she appeared even as a cameo.

It can be tricky adding in new characters to an already large ensemble cast. Because they're either an interesting character that fans love or they are so loathe by fans that the character feels like the only purpose they have is taking up screen time.

I feel like the writers for Supergirl managed to add quite a few new characters throughout the series that brought a lot to the show. For instance, Dreamer (a.k.a. Nia Nal) was added to the fourth season and she turned out to be such an interesting and fun character with a unique set of powers. She quickly became one of my favorite characters and speaking of her powers, here's a video by Jake Grys that includes a lot of scenes of Dreamer using her powers along with fight scenes.

Happy Thanksgiving! (+ a Geeky Holiday TV List)

Sorry, I didn't post anything earlier today, I slept in this morning and took the rest of the day to relax and do nothing. Today more than ever I am profoundly thankful for the simple things in life such as enjoying the day relaxing. Whether you celebrate Thanksgiving or not, I hope you're having a wonderful day.

Happy Valentine's Day! (+ a Geeky TV/Movie List)

I want to wish everyone a very Happy Valentine's Day. It doesn't matter if you're single or in a relationship, I hope your day is filled with love.

If you're looking for Valentine's Day themed episodes to watch, I put together a list which also several shows and also includes three movies two of them are Star Wars because there was romance centered in the first two trilogies.

The tragic and bittersweet romance of Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala in the prequels and an iconic and passionate romance between Princess Leia Organa and Han Solo. The third movie is a dance movie well more specifically a Step Up movie but it has such a beautiful romance plus fighting gentrification that I couldn't help including it. Supergirl 6th season returns "Meant to Be" Trailer

I can't believe the final episodes of Supergirl will be airing soon. The show will return after hiatus on Tuesday, August 24 on The CW. With Supergirl ending, I do hope some of the characters will appear on other Arrowverse shows. I would love to see Kara visiting her cousin Clark and his family in Smallville on Superman & Lois. It would be so cool to see the cousins working together again.

What’s everyone watching this weekend?

I finally got caught up on 9-1-1: Lone Star and I love it just as much the original 9-1-1 series. I like that the Texas crew has a totally different vibe than the Los Angeles crew. Both shows have an amazing cast, amazing writing and production. These shows are totally worth the watch especially if you're looking for drama, action and humor. I can't wait for the mid season finale for both shows on Monday.

Book Club Picks for January: The Trouble with Hating You, Adventures of Supergirl and Star Wars: Lost Tribe of the Sith

Happy New Year!

Goodbye 2020 and hello to a new year and new books. With the exception of January's book selections for Book Club which are a continuation of last month's picks. December was not a good reading month for me which is why I wanted to keep these picks for book club because I know they're good reads. I just didn't get a chance to read them.

The information about the book club picks below is from December 2020:

For The Book Girl's Book Club we will be reading The Trouble with Hating You by Sajni Patel, I figure we could read a bit of romance for the month. As for the Comic Book Club, I picked Adventures of Supergirl by Sterling Gates which are stories tied-in the Supergirl TV series. Last is the Star Wars Book Club where we will be reading Lost Tribe of the Sith by John Jackson Miller.

Fashion Meets Comics: Nia Nal's Striped Top

A fashion staple that I always seem to have in my closet, is some version of this striped ribbed top that Nia Nal wore in Supergirl's fifth season episode Reality Bytes. It's one of my favorite go-to fall pieces that's great to have when the weather gets cold and chilly. I like that it's a classic that can be styled in so many different ways. You could pair it with jeans (like Nia), skirts, pants, shorts, over a dress with blazers, jackets, cardigans and more.

Something that I really like about this top is that it has a studious/academic aesthetic. It makes me think of reading books all day, studying in the library or simply being in school. It's the classic simplistic look that gives it a studious quality.

This top was a style choice that really stood out to me because it felt like it was something that could be found in nearly anyone's closet.

Fashion Meets Comics: Dreamer's Uniform (Supergirl)

I love re-imaging superhero costumes/uniforms into fitness clothes especially since most of them already look like something you can workout in anyway.

For this Fashion Meets Comics, I wanted to focus on Supergirl's Dreamer a.k.a Nia Nal who is one of the newest heroes to protect National City. I think she has a really cool uniform or super suit and what I like about it, is that it's sleek and durable and perfect for fighting crime. Her suit includes a mixture of textures and colors (dark blue, turquoise, gray, etc.) which makes it stand out among the various heroes and I thought it would be great for this post.

What did you guys think of the Supergirl episode Reality Bytes?

I thought last night's episode of Supergirl, Reality Bytes was really good. I love how Nia Nal a.k.a Dreamer has grown into being a confident hero. This episode dealt with a tough and personal subject matter in regards to Nia as it tackled transphobia and the growing violence against the transgender community. Nia was rightfully angry after her roommate Yvette was attacked because of hatred towards Dreamer, a trans superhero. And it's understandable that she wanted revenge and wanted to go after the guy who did it. However, she realized that as a hero, she had to let justice run its course and not take matters into her own hands by becoming a vigilante.

I really like the friendship between Nia and Kara Danvers (Supergirl) and that moment between them at CatCo was so heartfelt. I've said it before but I think Nia was a really good addition to the show and I hope she'll continue to get more good screen time along with more complex storylines. She has easily become one of my favorite characters on the show.
