Wish List Wednesday: Sherlock Holmes: The Will of the Dead and a Catwoman action figure

I really want to read this but it's not released until November 5th.

Book: Sherlock Holmes: The Will of the Dead by George Mann

Description:

A young man named Peter Maugram appears at the front door of Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson’s Baker Street lodgings. Maugram’s uncle is dead and his will has disappeared, leaving the man afraid that he will be left penniless. Holmes agrees to take the case and he and Watson dig deep into the murky past of this complex family.

A brand-new Sherlock Holmes novel from the acclaimed author of the Newbury & Hobbes series.

This Catwoman action figure isn't available until August 1st (why must I have to wait). This is at the top of my wish list. I also can't wait until the Batman '66 comic book series starts. That classic Batman show is the best. I hope Batgirl will show as well.

Illustration of the Day: Clark Kent and Cat Grant

Illustration: Action Comics #866 (Superman: Brainiac trade edition)

That's funny, Clark didn't show any interest in Cat's "new" boobs. Sorry Ms. Grant, Clark only has eyes for Lois Lane.

Comic Book Wednesday: 12 Books on my Reading List: Young Avengers, Batman, Spider-Man and More

I have a slightly shorter list this time. There are a few books I didn't include on my list like Justice League and Superman even though they are on my pull list. I'm really starting to get tired of that fauxmance between Superman and Wonder Woman in Justice League and even more when it's shown in the Superman book. Why is Wonder Woman still in the Superman book? Ugh.

I will have to see when I go to the comic book store if I'll buy them or not. It's just that horrible relationship is taking away from the stories.

There is a series I do want to start reading, The Scarlet Spider (maybe I'll see if I can find the first few issues at the comic book store or buy it in the trade edition). Anyway, on to my list:

Book: The Fearless Defenders #4AU

Description:

In a world where some villains became heroes instead Warrior Woman teams up with…Caroline LeFay?  The connection between the Fearless Defenders greatest foe and Morgan LeFay is finally revealed! (And it’s true in our world too!)
----

I am really loving this series. Whenever I read an issue, I feel like this is how the new 52 Birds of Prey should be. The best Birds of Prey books were before the reboot and The Fearless Defenders is quickly reaching that quality, well at least to me.

Art of the Day: Marilyn Monroe

Artwork: Marilyn Monroe by simonhayag

Isn't this artwork rather amazing? This picture is inspired by Marilyn Monroe's character Pola Debevoise in "How to Marry a Millionaire". In the movie Pola didn't think men would like her if she wore her glasses and boy did she really need them. She could barely see a thing without them.

Disney is working on a new Star Wars animated series

According to an article from The Mary Sue, Disney will be creating a new Star Wars animated series titled "Star Wars Rebels" it will take place between Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. It will premiere in 2014 on Disney then the rest of the series will air over at Disney XD afterwards.

Well since we know Ahsoka was not in "Revenge of the Sith" it's highly doubtful she will be included in this new series. I just hope Matt Lanter will still be the voice of Anakin Skywalker (if the characters will still be in the series).

Preview of Adventures of Superman digital issue #4

Why is it taking the end of the month so long to show up? I really want to start reading this series in print. I love seeing the classic suit, don't you? Below are the previews for the 4th digital issue:

The Official Trailer for Batman: Arkham Origins Video Game

If seeing this trailer wasn't enough for me to get excited about this game then hearing that Kevin Conroy will be voicing Batman certainly signed me up. I can't wait to play this game. I have a question, why does this little trailer look more interesting than Nolan's boring Batman movies.

Who doesn't wish this was a real Batman movie?

Book of Interest: Avatar: The Last Airbender (The Art of the Animated Series)

Avatar: The Last Airbender is one of my favorite series and so when I saw this book at the store, I knew I had to get this. I thought the artwork was beautiful as well as all the behind the scenes concept art. I will be adding this to my wish list.

Book: Avatar: The Last Airbender (The Art of the Animated Series) by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko

Description:

Since its debut in 2005, Avatar: The Last Airbender has been one of Nickelodeon's most talked about and highest-rated animated series. Offering an epic storyline, engaging characters, action, adventure, and a powerful message about the importance of hope in a world besieged by war, it is also beautifully executed, harmonizing Western influences with aesthetic inspiration drawn from a diverse array of cultures, including those of China, Japan, India, and the Inuit.

An unprecedented look at the concept, design, and production art behind this smash-hit, award-winning series, Avatar: The Last Airbender - The Art of the Animated Series features hundreds of images, most of which Nickelodeon has never released to the public, and chronicles the show's development - from the very first sketch through to the series finale and beyond! With extensive commentary from series creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino.

Illustration of the Day: Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson

Illustration: Spider-Man: Fear Itself

Mary Jane must have some right hook if Peter's climbing the ceiling to avoid getting hit. Look at that blue telephone in the last panel, boy when was the last time anyone's seen a phone like that.

Another tragedy, I'm sure by now everyone knows about the horrible storm in Oklahoma, I would like to send all my thoughts and prayers to all the residents. It's so sad. Why does it seem like our storms are getting worse each year?

Happy Birthday, Zatanna Zatara!!!

Artwork: pencil and ink for "Zatanna: Everyday Magic" cover by Brian Bolland

May 20th is the birthday of the wonderful Mistress of Magic, Zatanna. That classic outfit will never go out of style just like her. So, Happy Birthday to one of the most powerful magicians in the DC Universe.

Movie Review for the Wonder Woman movie starring Cathy Lee Crosby

I watched the Wonder Woman movie starring Cathy Lee Crosby last night. This TV movie was before the Lynda Carter Wonder Woman TV series. I thought the movie wasn't bad, it just didn't feel like Wonder Woman. Aside from the part on the island where Diana was given her mission the rest of the movie felt like a cross between a spy movie and the original Charlie's Angels TV series.

What I found interesting about this movie was that Steve Trevor (Kaz Garas) already knew Diana was Wonder Woman. She posed as his secretary so she could have first hand knowledge on missions so she could investigate.

I didn't think there was any real need for Wonder Woman in this movie because the villain Mr. Abner Smith (Ricardo Montalban) and his lackeys didn't really strike me as such a threat that she was actually needed. Also, Diana did not have any powers, instead relied on her gadgets but like the traditional Wonder Woman she used her athletic ability and her intelligence to stop the villains.

As I was watching the movie, there were a couple of things I didn't understand: 1) How did the villains know she was Wonder Woman when she checked into the hotel in Paris? Unless the rogue Amazon Ahnjayla (Anitra Ford) told them but it's not shown so the viewers just had to come up with their own ideas as to how they found out. 2) If she flew her invisible plane to New York, then why was she outside the airport waiting for a taxi? Was it just to show Mr. Smith that she had beat him there.

Like I said this movie wasn't bad, it had an interesting plot and it was quite entertaining, I thought it would have made a great spy series. I also thought Diana had a really great wardrobe, she wore some really cute and glamorous clothes throughout the movie. Even with all those good things, this was just not Wonder Woman. The blonde hair, the lack of powers and the not so traditional Wonder Woman suit didn't help either.

As a huge Wonder Woman fan, I didn't think this was as awful as I've heard from other fans and read from reviews. It was a good movie it just wasn't Wonder Woman. I say see it for yourself and decide.

Art of the Day: Kim Possible

Artwork: Kim Possible by CYCOMarts

Kim Possible was such an awesome show. Who didn't think Kimmie wasn't cool? She was smart, tough and a hero. She saved the world several times from crazy mad scientist, megalomaniacs and many more crazies.

I wish Disney would put the complete series on DVD or at least re-air it on one of their numerous channels.
