Fandom Thoughts #5: Carlos Reyes' New Job (9-1-1: Lone Star)

I have quite a few thoughts about Carlos Reyes' new job as a Texas Ranger in the upcoming fifth season of 9-1-1: Lone Star. From looking at the new pictures (below), Carlos' new uniform is clearly shown and I guess it's a little jarring to see. Because in the episode Best of Men (season 4 episode 17), Carlos (who was a Police Officer) said he didn't want to be a Texas Ranger. Carlos' father Gabriel (who was either a Captain or Major in the Texas Rangers) had went to Carlos and T.K. Strand's apartment to tell his son that Assistant Chief Bridges had offered Carlos a job with the Texas Rangers. However, Carlos turned the offer down.

Most Memorable Scene: The 126 Save a Sex Doll (9-1-1: Lone Star)

Happy Tuesday! Sorry for being gone for a while, I've been dealing with a cold. But I feel so much better now.

Anyway, I feel like 9-1-1: Lone Star could use a little more appreciation. I really like this show, it has a good blend of action, drama and comedy along with a lot of heart. Yes, at time it can be zany. Such as in this Most Memorable Scene from the episode Cry Wolf (season 4 episode 3), when the 126 firefighters and paramedics rescued and provided medical care to a sex doll that had fallen over a cliff. The doll belonged to a guy who had mental issues and he was very distraught due to the doll falling or as he said jumping over the cliff. But the thing is the 126 still went through the process of doing their jobs despite the situation. Because to that guy, the doll was a real person, and they were there to help. And in this case, helping a guy fully let go of his "girlfriend" and move on with his life.

Not to go unnoticed is that this is all taking place while police officer Carlos Reyes' wife (on paper) Iris Blake had gone missing. So he showed up at the scene believing that the "woman" who went over the cliff may have been Iris. It's a good thing Detective Grier showed up to the scene or Carlos would have let his emotions cause him to do something he would regret. Because abusing your power of authority is never a good thing especially in his line of work.

Art of the Day: T.K. and Carlos

Artwork: T.K. and Carlos by Tay (ambiguoustay)

Happy 9-1-1: Lone Star Tuesday!

I really like this artwork, it's based on the bar scene from the first season pilot episode. And the quote is from the fourth season 16th episode A House Divided.

Most Memorable Scene and Quote: The Pudding Cup Mystery (9-1-1: Lone Star)

It's 9-1-1: Lone Star Tuesday and I wanted to post this Most Memorable Scene from the episode Tongues Out (season 4 episode 14). I love this scene because Paul Strickland was going to find out who ate his snack. In the first season Pilot episode, it was shown that Paul was good at picking up on clues and solving mysteries which helped him catch an arsonist who was still at the scene of a fire.

Throughout the series, Paul has used his detective skills every now and then. Most recently in the episode Tongues Out where Paul used his skills twice. First to solve the infamous Pudding Cup Mystery and the second to figure out who killed Fire Captain Owen Strand's girlfriend Kendra's husband since Kendra was the prime suspect.

As a mystery fan, I love that Paul maybe a firefighter but his detective skills are unmatched. Also, the quote for this scene is below.

9-1-1: Lone Star thoughts on Carlos and Gabriel Reyes in the 4th season finale

It's still 9-1-1: Lone Star Tuesday and I thought the final two episodes (#17 Best of Men and #18 In Sickness and in Health) of the fourth season were so heartbreakingly good. The writing was so emotional and impactful, I don't know how many times I found myself crying. For one thing, I was not expecting Carlos Reyes' father Gabriel to die. Unfortunately, he was murdered and by the end of the finale the killer was still never identified or arrested. I feel like since they made a point not to show the killer's face, that this has to mean something. I do hope that the investigation into Gabriel's murder will continue in the fifth season.

As expected, it truly devastated the Reyes family. Carlos had become so unhinged that he nearly made a truly awful mistake that would have cost someone their life and him his freedom. One good thing in regard to Gabriel's death is that I'm glad that Carlos and his father had a chance to talk after they had a disagreement following Carlos not wanting to accept a job offer with the Texas Rangers. If it wasn't for Carlos' fiancé and soon to be husband T.K. Strand meddling and sort of tricking Carlos by having Carlos' mother Andrea meet him for lunch at their favorite food truck. Because Andrea helped Carlos see his father in a different light and it gave him just the right push to go talk with his father.

And if it wasn't for that little bit of meddling from both TK and Andrea, Carlos probably wouldn't have had the chance to tell his father how much he was proud of him and that he was proud to be his son. He wouldn't have got to find out a few more little things about his father that he didn't know such as his father enjoyed doing puzzles. As well as he wouldn't have been able to tell his father that he was the best man he knows and ask him to be his best man for his wedding. It's just so sad that Gabriel who so excited to be in the wedding never got a chance to be there.

Characters Reading: Carlos Reyes (9-1-1: Lone Star)

In the 9-1-1: Lone Star third season episode Down to Clown, Carlos Reyes was relaxing at home reading the Woodsman & Craft magazine. Too bad it didn't stay relaxing for him. Not when Lou, the little alligator lizard that Carlos' boyfriend T.K. Strand brought home from an emergency call got out of it's tank. Not only was it loose somewhere in the apartment but it had even crawled onto Carlos' shoulder and scared him. So, it's easy to say that Carlos' relaxing moment didn't last long.

I'm not sure if this is a real magazine or a prop but I did search online and found nothing. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that it's not a real magazine, it may not have a website. But more than likely, it's just something that the prop department put together for the show.

Most Memorable Scene: Carlos giving T.K. good advice (9-1-1: Lone Star)

I love this scene in the 9-1-1: Lone Star 2nd season 7th episode Displaced where Carlos Reyes holds his boyfriend Tyler Kennedy "T.K." Strand while T.K. talks about how he somehow got on his Paramedic co-worker Nancy Gillian's bad side at work. T.K. had recently become a Paramedic after transferring over from being a Firefighter and at the time, I don't think he realized he was giving Nancy a bad first impression.

Because to Nancy it seemed like T.K. was trying to impress their Paramedic Captain Tommy Vegas and bonding with her which made Nancy feel like she was being pushed aside and slighted. It really didn't seem like he was being a team player which wasn't T.K.'s intention, he just didn't realize he was doing that. I like that Carlos gave T.K. some good advice to make him see things from Nancy's perspective and to see how he was making her feel.

Total side note, I love how these two dorks take turns holding each other. It's really sweet.

Most Memorable Scene: Carlos and T.K. and a Missing Lizard (9-1-1: Lone Star)

I really enjoyed watching Monday's 9-1-1: Lone Star episode Down to Clown, especially the scenes once T.K. Strand brought home an alligator lizard after an emergency call. He decided to make the little thing his pet and called it Lou. Too bad his boyfriend Carlos Reyes isn't that fond of the little creature and to make matters worse (for Carlos), Lou got out of the aquarium and was loose in their apartment. This was a funny scene because as soon as TK realized Lou was missing why didn't he say something especially once it was on Carlos.

Fandom Friday: Random Fandom Thoughts #22: Carlos Reyes, Henry Danger Movie, Eddie Diaz

Happy Friday!

This has felt like a really long week. I'm really happy it's Friday. And with that said, here are some of my fandom thoughts. What are some of yours?

- When I remember this scene from the 9-1-1: Lone Star third season 8th episode In the Unlikely Event of an Emergency, all I can think about is Carlos Reyes standing in the airport blaming himself for putting his boyfriend TK Strand and TK's father Owen on that flight. The plane malfunctioned and the pilot had to make an emergency landing. And all that time, I'm sure running through his mind was him thinking he was never going to see TK again. Because what can you do in a situation like that except worry. Which is why it was so wonderful seeing him being so relieved when the plane landed safely.

Why do you think Carlos and T.K. broke up on 9-1-1: Lone Star?

Before a new episode of 9-1-1: Lone Star airs tonight, I was wondering if you had any thoughts as to why Carlos Reyes and T.K. Strand broke up? The first episode of this third season, The Big Chill revealed that the fan favorite couple had broken up. I'm sure at some point, viewers will find out why but until then I wanted to know what you thought about it.

I have three theories, the first is Carlos proposed and for some reason T.K. turned him down and then broke up with him. Although, T.K. loves Carlos, he's not sure he ever wants to get married and broke up with Carlos because he didn't want him to have to settle for a relationship where he won't get everything he wants out of it.

My second theory is that the trauma from the house fire might have caused them to distance themselves from each other instead of talking to each other. More so from T.K. than from Carlos. Although they both nearly died in that fire and they lost everything they owned as well. I feel like the fire coupled with the 126 fire station being shutdown might have been a bigger distance inducing factor for T.K. causing him to get scared about the future making him want to end things with Carlos because he felt like he couldn't deal with everything including being in a relationship.

My third theory is that after Fire Captain Owen Strand knocked out Billy Tyson after he announced that the 126 fire station was being shut down that when Billy came to he wanted Owen arrested and charged. And since Carlos although off duty was on the scene, he unfortunately had to arrest Owen and that caused an issue between Carlos and T.K. resulting in them breaking up.

Well these are just my theories, what are yours?
