Throwback Thursday: The Mob's Museum of Art Dance Scene (Step Up 4) (Video)
Ever since I rewatched all five Step Up movies, it's reignited my love for this franchise. So for this Throwback Thursday I wanted to post this video from Step Up 4: Revolution of The Mob's beautifully crafted performance. They did a great job of putting together this flash performance, it truly fit in with the art at the museum. It's performance art at it's finest.

Gift Guide: Harry Potter #1
Since I started my Christmas shopping early, I figured it would be a good time to put together a few gift guides. This is the first of two Harry Potter gift guides with this one featuring 16 finds from books to artwork for the Potter fan in your life.
Harry Potter Book Box Set
If you know someone who has seen all the movies but never read the books, this would make a good gift for them. From hardcover to paperback there is a box set for nearly every price range. The paperback box set can be found priced between $50+-$60+ while the hardcover can be a little over a $100 (sometimes less if there is a sale).
Be sure to check your local bookstore and online bookstores (and big box stores) to see if you can find a good deal.

Art: My Day at the Museum and a Video of Contemporary/Interpretive Art
I just came back from the museum, it's been a while since the last time I've gone. I had such a wonderful time looking around that I didn't even realize how quickly time passed by while we were walking through the various exhibits. There is still so much I want to see that I'm going to make sure I go back soon. Next time I'm going to go early so I will have more time to look around and then maybe eat at the museum's café. I want to make a total day out of it.
While I was in the Contemporary section I saw this piece that reminded me of this video "If You Are In A Shell..." that I had watched a few years ago. It's contemporary meets interpretive art. When I first watched this, I thought it was really interesting and I also thought "hey it's that guy (Harry Shum, Jr.) from Glee". It tells a story using dance and art to help convey the message of Harry's experience dealing with shyness when he was younger.
I really love being immersed in art, it's so inspiring. As I looked at some of the pieces it made me want to go home and work on some of my artwork. I'm not a professional artist, my art is something I do for myself. It's a hobby that's really fun and relaxing.
I love that there are no rules when it comes to art, if it makes you happy then I guess that's all that matters. Art is such a powerful medium.

Art: Disney's The Lion King Play
This past Sunday (Feb. 12th), I had the pleasure of attending the play The Lion King, it was unbelievably fantastic. Months priors, I had thought about not buying a ticket to save money (still trying to be a Geek on a Budget) but it was so worth going to see it, everything from the acting to the sets was wonderful. I went with my mother and my younger sister and thankfully it wasn't too cold as we waited in line to enter the theatre. It was a long line and I always consider that to be a good thing because who doesn't want to perform to a full house. And the actors truly put on a great performance.
But I'm getting a head of myself, because as we walked into the theatre and checked our tickets, we each bought a program. It's full of gorgeous pictures although not of this production's actors but still a cool piece of memorabilia.
We had balcony seats which comes with walking up a lot of stairs to get to them but no problem I'm in pretty good shape and bounced up the stairs like I was a little kid. I was so excited to see this show and from our seats we had a great view of the stage. As soon as the lights dimmed it was time for the show and as I stated before the actors did a great job. I enjoyed every minute of the show and even with a short intermission it felt like it went by too fast. At the end the cast received a standing ovation and they deserved it.
Even though the show was over, I had the bright idea to stop by the merchandise stand. This was so not a good idea because despite trying to save money I wound up buying quite a few things. Here's a tip for anyone trying to save money don't go to the merchandise stand or gift store after the show because you will always see something you want.
And see something I did, mind you I already bought a program and that should have been enough but I also bought the soundtrack (you know I can't resist a good soundtrack), a mug and a tote bag. Well at least there was a slight sale on items which was good. It's easy to see that Disney now has plenty of my money but the experience was so amazing that I didn't want it to end. I wanted to basked in the enjoyment of the show just a little bit more.
See, this is why I love the arts, it's so inspiring. If you get the chance, please support the arts by going to plays, art exhibits, etc. I don't go as often as I would like to the theatre but I'm going to do my best to go more. One day I would love to go to New York and see a show on Broadway but until then I will enjoy a little bit of the theatre right in my own city. I already know there are some really cool upcoming shows that I'm going to look into.

Gift Guide: 16 Gifts for Bookaholics
It's officially 30 days before Christmas and I wanted to make it easier on shoppers to find gifts by posting a Gift Guide. Today, I'm starting with gifts that might appeal to book lovers or bookaholics, they are priced from $1.00 to $59.00. I figure one shouldn't have to go over budget to be thoughtful.
As I was putting together this post, I found so many interesting gifts that I may have to do another one in this category.

Art Find: Hollywood Land of Dreams canvas art
Isn't this beautiful? I love everything about it, from all the color (it definitely pops) to the Hollywood sign reflecting in her sunglasses.
Hollywood Land of Dreams canvas art by Maxwell Dickson $88.00 for size 16 x 20 (available in additional sizes) Dormify (dormify.com)
When I look at this artwork, I can't helping thinking about the second season of Agent Carter when Peggy arrived in Los Angeles ready for a new adventure.

Harry Potter News: The 2016 Play "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child"

Still missing the magical world of Harry Potter perhaps this upcoming play should soothe the wounds. The play titled Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will open in July 2016 in London. The play will focus on an adult Harry, Hermione and Ron as it takes place 19 years later in their lives. Below is the premise:
Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a new play by Jack Thorne. It is the eighth story in the Harry Potter series and the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage.
It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.
While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is one play presented in two Parts, which are intended to be seen in order on the same day (matinee and evening) or on two consecutive evenings.
The roles of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley have recently been announced and they will be played by (from left to right) Paul Thornley (Ron), Noma Dumezweni (Hermione) and Jamie Parker (Harry).

For more information about the play and ticket availability, please visit the official Harry Potter and the Cursed Child website.
As a huge Harry Potter fan and person who absolutely loves to go to plays, this is definitely something that I would love to see. I guess I will have to start saving my pennies because I really would like to see this.

30 Days of Geek Chic, Day 7: Framed Naruto and Sakura Artwork
For fans of Naruto and Sakura (or NaruSaku as some like to call them), I found five very beautiful framed pieces of artwork on Society6 by artist Kaleta.
Although there are eight different frames that you can select from, the artwork is also available to purchase without a frame.
Oh, I love them all and I could see arranging them on my wall as an art display. I do eventually plan to buy them and I want my first piece to be "Under the Same Umbrella". There is just something about that piece that I really like.

Nap Time by Kaleta $32.00 (for the framed 12" x 10" size) Also available in an additional size

Haters Gonna Hate by Kaleta $32.00 (for the framed 12" x 10" size) Also available in an additional size

Sleepy Time by Kaleta $32.00 (for the framed 10" x 12" size) Also available in additional sizes

Red String of Fate by Kaleta $32.00 (for the framed 12" x 10" size) Also available in additional sizes

Under the Same Umbrella $32.00 (for the framed 12" x 10" size) Only available in the 12" x 10" size

Art Finds from the DIA: Fashion Meets Art with a Frida Kahlo T-Shirt and a Superman Wallet
I don't know if everyone knows but I love going to the museum and checking out all the exhibits but also to check out the gift shop. And when I have some time, I love to search various museum websites to see what they have in their online gift shops.
I recently had a bright idea to start a new post called Art Finds where I will post fun, unique and interesting items from museum gifts shops. So for my first post, I found two fashionable items from the Detroit Institute of Arts Museum.
Frida Kahlo Neon Juniors T-Shirt $28.00 Detroit Institute of Arts Museum (dia.org)
This is a really cute Frida Kahlo T-Shirt. It's available in basic white but what I love the most are the bright neon colors. The bright colors make the shirt standout more. Side note: There is a Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo exhibit at the DIA running until July 12th.
Mighty Wallet Superman by Dynomighty $15.00 Detroit Institute of Arts Museum (dia.org)
You guys know I love comics and I always find it interesting that you can now find superhero stuff just about anywhere. Case in point this Superman wallet, like the character it's bright and colorful and according to the description durable. As much as I like this, I do wish there was something with Lois Lane on it. Maybe, I'll contact the museum and ask them.
Any way the description states that inside the wallet you see Clark transform into Superman. It's tear-resistant, water-resistant, expandable and recyclable. Made from Tyvek which resist tearing due to the thousands of interlocking plastic fibers spun in random patterns, giving it incredible strength.
The wallet includes:
2 large pockets for cash and receipts
2 credit card pockets that expand to hold lots of cards
2 quick access business card pockets
4 writable Tyvek business cards included
