Fandom Friday: Random Fandom Thoughts #29: Robert Nash, Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Alexis Castle and Hayley Shipton

Happy Friday! What fandom thoughts are on your mind? Well, here are some of mine:

- I rewatched the 9-1-1 sixth season mid-season finale episode Red Flag and I was looking at the fire that the 118 put out and it really looks like some one only set a certain section of a grassy area on fire. I do wonder if that couple that Fire Captain Robert "Bobby" Nash is suspicious of perhaps killed his sponsor Wendell and set a fire to get rid of any evidence on the body that showed he had been murdered. And they left drug paraphernalia near the body so it makes it seem as if Wendell overdosed but that still doesn't explain the fire and how the area caught fire. Especially since the fire was in a residential area and not out in the woods. When I first watched the episode when it originally aired (Monday, Nov. 28th), the couple asking Bobby questions about the fire after it was put out immediately set off red flags (hence the title of the episode).

To me as the viewer, the fire seemed suspicious and to Bobby as well and I don't think the Police Detective assigned to the case is going to really look into Wendell's death. Because according to Bobby's wife Police Sergeant Athena Grant, the detective stated that the area where the fire was and where Wendell's body was found is a known area for drug users. Which makes me think that the detective isn't going to make too much of an effort to really investigate Wendell's death. They'll probably write it down as a overdose. But then how do you explain the fire because if he some how died from an overdose, how did the fire start? See this is probably why Bobby is going to take it upon himself to investigate Wendell's death and the couple he thinks may be behind it since the police probably won't really look into it. I'm really interested to see how this story is going to unfold in the second half of the season.

Fashion: Amy Adams and Henry Cavill at the London Premiere of "Man of Steel"

I still love this Valentino dress that Amy Adams wore to the 2013 London premiere of Man of Steel. It was so cute and flattering on her and what I like about Amy's style is that she doesn't has a standard look. She always wears a lot of different looks on the red carpet from long and slinky to something ultra-cute like this nude and black mid-length strapless gown. The only thing I didn't like about this look were the shoes, they looked really uncomfortable.

As for hair, I liked that it was a simple updo styled with a headband. I thought it was really cute and a fun take on a classic look. Not to be left out, Henry Cavill also looked pretty good in his suit. However, I thought the pant legs seemed a little long because they bunched around his ankles.

It's hard to believe it's been six years since the release of Man of Steel, I still remember how high fan anticipation was and for some fans still is for this movie.

The "Sharp Objects" TV Miniseries Premieres Tonight

Even though I still haven't watched the Fahrenheit 451 movie (I also haven't read the book that was written by Ray Bradbury), but I like that HBO has adapted several books into movies or TV series. And speaking of TV series, the first episode of the channel's 8-part miniseries Sharp Objects premieres tonight at 9:00 pm EST. It's based on the book of the same title by Gillian Flynn which I also haven't read. But I did recently buy both books which I plan on reading soon.

I think the trailer for Sharp Objects looks really interesting with Camille Preaker trying to investigate the missing girls for a story but also trying to face her troubled past. So who else is planning on watching this tonight?

I feel like I've been reading magazines for as long as I've been reading books. I know the publishing industry has changed a lot and and magazines are no exception especially since several magazines have either gone out of print or have gone digital only. So it's nice to still be able to find a magazine at the store. At least for me, it like with physical books I enjoy holding the magazine and turning the pages.

And two that I'm going to be on the lookout for are the July issues of Allure and Marie Claire magazines which have Janelle Monáe and Amy Adams on the respective covers. The pictures from both photo shoots are stunning, I like the bright, bold colors and voluminous dresses that Janelle Monáe is wearing while Amy Adams has an understated look in all white.

Gal Gadot and Amy Adams

Seeing this picture of Gal Gadot and Amy Adams, who were at the 'Night Before' Pre-Oscars party on Saturday (March 3rd), makes me wish they starred in a non-superhero movie together. I really don't care what kind of movie they are in (comedy, mystery, drama, action adventure, etc.) as long as these two get to be the lead actors.

I love this picture of Amy Adams and Gal Gadot, they look so casual and relaxed. These two along with other celebrities attended Producer Jennifer Klein’s 19th Annual Day Of Indulgence Party in Los Angeles this past Sunday (August 13, 2017).

Some of the other celebrities who attended the event were: Halle Berry, Lucy Hale, Rashida Jones, Melissa McCarthy, Kerry Washington, Lea Michele, Lily Collins, Chloë Grace Moretz, Debra Messing and many more.

Fashion: Amy Adams

She always has this old Hollywood/lady like look with a twist to whatever she wears to events. I like it because she never looks like anyone else on the red carpet.

This lilac dress is sexy without it being too sexy and I like the nude (possibly suede) pumps.

Day 4 review for my Amy Adams 4-day-4-movie marathon: Enchanted

Rating: 4 stars

I actually waited a while before writing up my review because I think my perspective has changed since I originally saw this movie. I still enjoyed watching Enchanted and I still think all the animated scenes are so beautiful. However, I now think Robert (Patrick Dempsey) is one of the most annoying characters around, he's just so cynical and jaded. I just couldn't find him interesting. Watching this for the second time, I really didn't want Giselle (Amy Adams) to end up with Robert. Is it bad that I sort of rooted for Queen Narissa (Susan Sarandon) when she captured Robert near the end of the movie? Oh well, I can't change the movie.

The second time around, I was even happier that Nancy (Idina Menzel) finally got her Prince and ended up with Prince Edward (James Marsden). Robert was so dull and unromantic and romance is something that Nancy really wanted.

I was still happy Nathaniel (Timothy Spall) finally realized how the Queen really saw him and took up the fight for the side of the Prince. It still makes me smile when I see the title of his book (and Pip the chipmunk's book as well).

I thought Amy Adams and James Marsden were simply wonderful. They were whimsy and made you believe they had truly stepped out of a fairy tale. James Spall and Susan Sarandon also did a great job in this movie.

So overall, I still absolutely adore this movie. I just grew up a little and saw Giselle's "Prince" as a grumpy old curmudgeon.

Day 4 of my Amy Adams 4-day-4-movie marathon: Enchanted

This movie is so funny and adorable. I have not seen it in a while and thought it would be perfect for the last day of my movie marathon.

Day 3 review for my Amy Adams 4-day-4-movie marathon: Trouble with the Curve

I didn't get a chance to write up my review last night. I was a little tired and didn't feel like going anywhere near my computer. So here's my day 3 review. I'll post my day 4 review sometime later today. The last movie I will be watching is "Enchanted".

Rating: 3 stars

I thought this was a good heartwarming movie. It focused on the strained relationship between a father and a daughter. Gus (Clint Eastwood) was a grumpy old stubborn baseball scout whose serious eye problems were starting to affect his job. Realizing that Gus was having problems his friend Pete (John Goodman) went to talk with Gus' daughter to see if she could help him out with an upcoming very important scouting. His daughter the equally stubborn high powered lawyer Mickey (Amy Adams) initially didn't plan on helping but something changed her mind. Despite being up for partnership at her firm, Mickey decides to go help her dad.

I like that we got to see who these characters were, they were far from perfect but you got a better understanding of them as the film progressed. Something that really surprised me was I didn't find Justin Timberlake's acting to be awful, I'm usually not a fan of his acting but I thought he did an okay job in this.

The Amy Adams in this movie is how I wish she was in Man of Steel, Mickey was smart, tough, tenacious and full of life. She was passionate about whatever she was doing and like Lois Lane she was very career focused. But no matter how hard she tried to hide it you could still see Mickey's heart and compassion. Also, Mickey had an amazing wardrobe and great hair.

Although I'm not changing my opinion of her performance in Man of Steel I no longer place all the blame on her. I think the writer and the director played a huge part in the way Lois Lane was shown. They didn't let Amy act. They didn't let her bring anything to the character and it showed big time.

Anyway, I thought Clint Eastwood did a good job of portraying the aging Gus. Gus' whole life was his job and Clint Eastwood showed how vulnerable and discontent Gus has slowly become. Believe it or not, this is the first movie I've ever seen of Clint Eastwood's.

Overall, I thought this was a good movie with quite a few funny moments and I wouldn't mind watching it a second time.

Day 3 of my Amy Adams 4-day-4-movie marathon: Trouble with the Curve

I'm nearly finished with "Wedding Night" by Sophie Kinsella and should have my review up today.

For day 3, I will be watching "Trouble with the Curve". It's a baseball movie with Clint Eastwood as a baseball scout with Amy Adams starring as his daughter. I never saw this but I did hear that it got a lot of mixed reviews, so I'll see how my opinion goes.

Book Girl Thoughts: Julia Child's reaction to Julie Powell

After I watched "Julie & Julia" yesterday, I started thinking about the scene near the end where Julie (Amy Adams) got the telephone call from the reporter telling her what Julia Child said. I wanted to know if there was more to it so I did a little research (yeah, I know I'm starting to sound like Hermione) and found out that Julia Child (as well as quite a lot of readers of her blog and book) didn't find Julie as charming as she was shown in the movie. Many also thought she had created the blog as some sort of stunt to get some attention and nothing more.

According to Julia Child's editor Judith Jones, this is how Julia really thought:

Flinging around four-letter words when cooking isn't attractive, to me or Julia. She didn't want to endorse it. What came through on the blog was somebody who was doing it almost for the sake of a stunt. She would never really describe the end results, how delicious it was, and what she learned. Julia didn’t like what she called 'the flimsies.' She didn't suffer fools, if you know what I mean.

I think a lot of the credit for making "Julie & Julia" such an amazing film should go to Nora Ephron. She took, what many reviewers are saying was a shallow and self-centered book and transformed it into movie gold. Since I have not read the book "Julie and Julia: My Year of Cooking Dangerously" by Julie Powell, I can't honestly give my opinion of it. I only wanted to know more about Mrs. Child's reaction.

Day 2 review for my Amy Adams 4-day-4-movie marathon: Julie & Julia

Rating: 5 stars

Julie & Julia is such an amazing film. The movie focuses on the lives of both Julia Child (Meryl Streep) and Julie Powell (Amy Adams). I thought this was a very well written, very well acted master piece. There is so much emotion and heart in this film which had my attention totally focused on every scene for not only the amazing story but also the good food. I know I've said it before but this is one of my favorite movies.

The story showed you Julia Child as she became the infamous Julia Child. After relocating to Paris with her husband Paul (Stanley Tucci), Julia trying to find something to do with her life decides to take cooking lessons. The movie showed her first attempts at learning to cook to her most stressful endeavor of trying to get her cookbook published.

Julie Powell was struggling with her life and her stressful job as a customer service representative for the 9/11 relief fund. Not feeling very successful with her life after spending lunch with her friends and after being featured in a not so flattering magazine article written by a friend. Julie decides to make a change by creating a blog (as suggested by her husband Eric (Chris Messina)) where she will focus on attempting to prepare every recipe in Julia Child's famous cookbook "Mastering the Art of French Cooking".

I really enjoyed watching this movie, it was funny and endearing and if you've never seen it, I would really recommend it. I'm pretty sure you will like it too.

Day 2 of my Amy Adams 4-day-4-movie marathon: Julie & Julia

For day 2, I will be watching Julie & Julia. I absolutely love this movie for two reason: great story and all that delicious looking food (I'm a foodie).

It's been a while since I've watched this, so it will be a like a treat for me when I do.

Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day

Rating: 5 stars

I simply adored it. It was refreshing to watch, I felt like I was watching one of those old Hollywood classics. It was funny and romantic and may easily become one of my favorites.

The movie was about a down on her luck governess (Frances McDormand) who ended up getting a job with a flighty actress (Amy Adams). I regret that I didn't watch this until now, because I just thought this was wonderful. An old Hollywood fairy tale.

I thought Frances McDormand as the prim and proper Miss Pettigrew was fantastic and Amy Adams was simply charming as the ditzy actress, Delysia Lafosse. I thought the acting of the entire cast was spot on. I also love Delysia's wardrobe and the retro home décor in her apartment.

This movie is an adaptation of the same titled novel. I might have to add that to my wish list as well. I would love to read it.

Tomorrow, I will be watching Julie & Julia.

My Amy Adams 4-day-4-movie marathon

I'm going to have an Amy Adams 4-day-4-movie marathon. I'm going to watch a couple of favorites plus two I have never seen before. The first movie I will start with is "Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day". I'm surprised I haven't seen this one, can't wait to watch it. I am not sure if I should post my movie review as one post on Friday or individual posts on the same day as I watch the movie. I'll decide and figure it out.

Here are the other movies I plan to watch:

Tomorrow: "Julie & Julia" (This is one of my absolute favorites)
Wednesday: "Trouble with the Curve" (Another one I didn't see)
Thursday: "Enchanted" (This was very cute) 

I may not have enjoyed her performance in Man of Steel but Amy Adams is still one of my favorite actresses. This should be fun.

I think Emma Watson and Michelle Dockery both look very classy in their dresses and lastly I think Amy Adams' dress is really pretty and flirty.
