My thoughts on Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue

Yesterday, I finished the last two episodes of Power Rangers Lost Galaxy (which was a very good ending to the season) and then watched the first four episodes of the next season Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue. And one thing for sure, Lightspeed Rescue was not one of my favorite seasons, I liked it even less than Turbo. At least after re-watching Turbo my feelings changed I rather enjoyed watching it this time around. However, I don't see that happening with Lightspeed Rescue. For one they are government selected Power Rangers and use man made created morphers, weapons and zords. Nothing man made would be able to stop those monsters. Also, the Rangers have no secret identities and they wear these ridiculous jackets when they leave headquarters to go out on missions. This season lost the spark that made Power Rangers interesting. They turned being a Ranger into being nothing more than a job. It's just way too militarized and governmental. At least with all the previous seasons, there was still this fun and mysterious element to the show. This just feels like characters working a job. They even wear id badges at headquarters. So, it truly feels like this is nothing more than a job.

Lightspeed Rescue just feels so overly structured with Captain Mitchell along with Ms. Fairweather, who is a scientist both telling the Rangers what to do and not to mention yelling at them. I didn't like how Ms. Fairweather yelled at Joel Rawlings (Green Ranger) through the communicator when he had an idea that was different from the one they wanted him to follow. As Rangers they need to be able to think for themselves. How else are they supposed to figure things out. And certainly not by being yelled at. Although, they picked them to be Rangers, they don't let them be independent from the organization. With the previous Rangers they got to think for themselves even if some had additional help from Zordon, Alpha, etc. These Lightspeed Rangers are nothing more than stooges that are being told what to do. And the way the characters are written feel like they should have been high school students because despite being adults they seem very immature.

Since this is just my initial reaction to rewatching the first four episodes, maybe my feelings might change after I finish this season. I'll try to keep an open mind but I just don't like this season.

Update to my Power Ranger Franchise Re-Watch Challenge

Happy Thursday!

I just started the third season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers when I remembered Bulk and Skull had a movie, The Good, the Bad, and the Stupid!: The Misadventures of Bulk And Skull. It was a direct to DVD movie that follows as Bulk and Skull were trapped in a cave and were reminiscing with scenes of flashback moments. The movie is set sometime during third season 20th episode Changing of the Zords part II. I'll also update The Power Rangers Franchise Rewatch Challenge incase there is anyone else attempting this challenge with me.

Well, this is an update for my update, I apparently misremembered, The Good, the Bad, and the Stupid!: The Misadventures of Bulk And Skull movie set during the Changing of the Zords part III (season 3 episode 21).

Challenge: The Power Rangers Franchise Rewatch

Happy Thursday!

It's been a while since I've had one of my fandom challenges. And at this moment, I feel like rewatching the entire Power Rangers franchise which includes all the shows and movies. Yeah I know that's a lot to watch especially since it's 973 total episodes or 1,005 if I include the 32 episodes of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Re-Version. And then include the four movies (I consider Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always a movie) to watch. Update: to add to week four, the fifth movie: The Good, the Bad, and the Stupid!: The Misadventures of Bulk And Skull.

Since Re-Version is just an enhanced version of the first 32 episodes of the first season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and not to mention, the story doesn't change, there was just different special effects added on. I'm not sure if I'll re-watch those episodes. However, I did say I wanted to re-watch the entire franchise. So, I'll see. Regardless, this challenge does seem a little daunting to complete by the end of the year. I figure if I start next week and watch six episodes a day (or 42 episodes a week) for the remainder of the 24 weeks left in this year (plus the first two days of January), I should be able to watch all 1,005 episodes and the four movies.

I'm so excited to start this challenge, it's really been a while since I've watched a lot of the earlier shows. So, I can't wait to get started. Below is my challenge schedule I'm going to attempt:

TV Challenge: 9-1-1 Rewatch

Last year, I had planned to do a 9-1-1 rewatch but never got around to it. However, since the ninth season won't premiere until Thursday, October 16th, this will give me plenty of time to rewatch the show. And since I really want to do this, I wrote out a watch plan (that's below). Having a watch plan makes it easier for me, I created a similar one for my MCU summer rewatch challenge back in 2019.

It's been a while since I've watched 9-1-1 from the beginning and my goal is to watch all 124 episodes before the new season begins. I'm either going to start this rewatch today or tomorrow, either way I'm really looking forward to this.

Book Challenge: Matching Books and Mug

Happy Sunday Bookworms!

There's this fun book challenge going around where you post a picture of books that match the color of a mug. I love books and mug, so I thought I'd join the challenge and post something too. I went with two blue mugs because the six books that I ended up picking from my shelves were a combination of both blues.

Books Featured:

- The Hitchhiker by R.L. Stine

- Star Wars: Red Harvest by Joe Schreiber (Star Wars Book Club Pick for September)

- All-American Girl (All-American Girl book #1) by Meg Cabot (bought from a thrift store)

- Ways to Make Sunshine (A Ryan Hart Story book #1) by Renée Watson

- The Blood of Olympus (The Heroes of Olympus book #5) by Rich Riordan

- Gabby: A Story of Courage and Hope by Gabrielle Giffords and Mark Kelly (bought from a library book sale)

Matilda Reading Challenge

A couple of years ago, there was this Matilda Challenge that was really popular. Unfortunately, the challenge had nothing to do with reading, it had fans pretending to have powers like Matilda. I was disappointed because when I heard of the challenge, I immediately thought it had something to do with Matilda's love of reading. Which is why I want to start a Matilda Reading Challenge.

In the book Matilda by Roald Dahl, Matilda Wormwood would go to the library and read for two glorious hours for five days a week while her mother was off playing bingo. This was before Matilda got a library card but once she did, she would read at home most likely during that same amount of time. She even created a little reading nook in her small bedroom.

Matilda's love of reading and actually making time for it is what inspired me to create this challenge because lately I've been unable to focus on reading like I used to. For instance, I read a little over a hundred pages of Spirit Hunters by Ellen Oh back in November and then I ended up taking another reading break. I haven't gone back to reading despite how good the book is. I've taken more reading breaks than I used to and I've noticed that a lot of other readers have been feeling a little distracted and unmotivated as well which is why I wanted to do this Matilda Reading Challenge as a way to get myself back to reading.

Something my mom told me is that "if it's something you really want to do, you will make the time for it". And she's right because I love reading and I really want to get back to enjoying a good book. Which is why I'm challenging myself to read for two hours a day for 21 days. I will be starting tomorrow Dec. 8th and will go until the 28th. If anyone else is interested in joining the Matilda Reading Challenge, please do. You don't have to read for two hours feel free to choose whatever amount of time that works for you.

Reading Challenge: Reading Before Bed

Hello Book Nerds! I'm hoping today will be a good reading day, I’m currently reading Brownies and Broomsticks by Bailey Cates for The Book Girl's Book Club. I was wondering what are you reading?

If you're not reading anything at the moment but plan to soon, there is a new reading challenge that you may be interested in. It's the Reading Before Bed challenge. It's pretty self-explanatory with the goal being to read before you go to bed. Since this challenge doesn't require a certain amount of time or number of pages to read, you could read as little as five pages or for five minutes, the main point is that you spend some time reading and relaxing before you go to sleep.

I'm going to start this challenge tonight and my personal goal is to read every night for 30 days. One thing I want to mention is don't try to force yourself to stay awake to read or to continue reading if you're tired. Go to sleep because you don't want to wake up feeling exhausted and drained.

Summer Challenge: The Marvel Cinematic Universe Rewatch

It's not as if I don't already have a large number of books to read but now I'm adding a Marvel Cinematic Universe Rewatch to my list. I figure it's been a while since I've watched the first 20 (out of 22) movies which is why I wanted to challenge myself to a rewatch. My goal is to watch two movies a week and then follow up with a little review.

I included Captain Marvel for the rewatch since it will be released on DVD/Blu-ray next Tuesday (June 11th). I tentatively included Avengers: Endgame because I'm hoping by the time I near the end of my rewatch it will out on DVD/Blu-ray. If not I will only rewatch 21 movies.

My MCU Rewatch Schedule:

June:

9-15: Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk

I'm Taking a 30-Day Healthy Snack Challenge

Starting today, I'm taking a 30-Day Healthy Snack Challenge. After weighing myself on Sunday and taking a real good look at myself, I can't deny that I've been snacking a bit too much. Chips, candy, ice cream, etc. I've been indulging way more than I should. I guess it's easy to develop a habit and I'm hoping by taking this challenge that it will help with limiting how many and what type of snacks I eat. Stress is also a factor when reaching for snacks but I will have to find another way to calm my nerves and exercise and meditation are two good options.

I've already been looking for healthy snack ideas and checking to see what options I have on the shelf and in the refrigerator (i.e. fruits and nuts) before I go out and buy more. And when the desire for ice cream strikes I am going to make sure I look at frozen yogurt options instead. I'm sure when this challenge is over I will probably go back to eating ice cream but maybe less of it.

No matter what choices I make, portion control is very important. I don't want to over do it with healthy snacks because that sort of defeats the purpose because I still would be overeating. Overall, I feel like snacking doesn't have to be boring or restrictive but I do want to make sure I'm picking healthier choices.

I don't plan on posting often for this challenge but I did want to let you know what I was going to do. I do think I will post a few pictures of healthy snacks I make or buy from time to time to keep myself motivated and on course.

Challenge: To Not Buy Non-Essential Items for Six Months

Today, Sunday, May 22, 2016 officially starts my six months of not buying anything that's not essential. I'm not a minimalist, not by a longshot. Plain and simple, I like stuff. But lately I've been buying a few too many items and thought it best to cut back.

A few days ago whenever I told my family and friends I was going to do this, they actually laughed at me. And I mean they really laughed out loud. I guess I can understand their reaction, I hate to admit it but I am a shopper. And I mean a BIG shopper but I don't want to be that anymore. I've tried challenges before and the sad thing is, I have never been able to complete any of my no book buying challenges in the past. But after yesterday's purchases which also included buying four Funkos, I decided I needed to change. I don't want to be a bookaholic/shopaholic instead I want to get a better handle on my finances like I used to.

Which is why I challenged myself to this six month challenge with it ending on November 22nd. I did research and found out some ways to go about doing challenges similar to this one. An important thing to do is to make up a list of exceptions and rules to follow to ensure the challenge will be a success.

Here are a few of the rules I plan to follow:

- No more Funkos with the exception of a Lois Lane figure if one is created and released sometime during the six months challenge.

- No books or magazines with the exception of my weekly comics.

- No new clothes unless something is in dire need of replacing.

At the least this will be interesting endeavor. This is a challenge that I really want to complete, I need to prove to myself that I can actually do it. So with that said, I hereby start my challenge.
