Happy Flag Day!

I know Flag Day isn't the most exciting holiday but as with nearly every holiday there's always something you can learn. Flag Day is in celebration of when the United States adopted the Stars and Stripes as the American flag on June 14, 1777. Since then, I feel like Flag Day is a great way to learn about all kind of flags from state flags to different countries flags. I figure it's always good to learn more.

Below is a small geeky list of flag themed episodes from two shows: Molly of Denali and The Big Bang Theory. Happy Flag Day everyone!

Molly of Denali

Season 1 episode 10: 1) Suki's Bone 2) Brand New Flag

Description:

1) When Suki digs up an old bone tool covered with markings, Molly, Tooey, and Oscar discover the playful pooch has made an important archeological discovery. 2) Molly announces a contest to design an original flag for the Denali Trading Post inspired by Benny Benson, the real-life Alaska Native boy who designed the state flag of Alaska.

Happy Bookstore Day! (+ a Mini Geeky Bookstore Movie and TV List)

Bookstore Day is a way for bookworms to celebrate and support local independent bookstores. How are you celebrating this wonderful book holiday? Are you going to order books online from your favorite bookstore or are you going to safely make an in-store visit? As for me, I'm just going to order a book or two online but if you do go into stores don't forget your mask and to social distance.

Don't forget to check with your local bookstore to see if they are offering any fun deals. And don't forget about comic book store, they're independent bookstores as well. I also included a mini Geeky Movie and TV List.

Happy New Year's Eve! (+ a Geeky TV/Movie List)

It's New Year's Eve and despite a slightly grumpy start to the day, I'm really looking forward to the new year. I hope we will all have a wonderful and amazing 2020. This is my first time posting a New Year's Eve geeky list and I wanted to include as many New Year's Eve shows and movies that I could think of. I know there are more but these were the only ones I could think of for now which means I'll have more to post for next year.

However, there's one movie on my list, Star Wars: Return of the Jedi that's not even remotely connected to NYE. But it has the feeling of "out with the old and in with the new" with the Rebels destroying the Empire and bring about the beginning of something new. Not to mention the galaxy wide celebration that happened afterwards. If that's not the spirit of New Year's Eve then I don't know what is.

As 2019 comes to an end, I can't thank all of you enough who have visited my blog. I hope to bring you even more book reviews and geeky topics for 2020. With that said, I want to wish everyone a very Happy New Year's Eve, can't wait to see what's in store for us next year. Take care everyone and have fun celebrating.

Characters Reading: Penny and Dr. Leonard Hofstadter (The Big Bang Theory)

Even though Penny wasn't the greatest actress, it was her dream for a while to become a professional actress and in The Big Bang Theory episode "The Indecision Amalgamation" she was thinking about taking the role in the horrible low budget movie, Serial Apeist 2: Monkey See, Monkey Kill. With a title like that, it's hard to imagine the movie not being terrible. To get a better understanding for the movie, Penny and Leonard read over the script and like the title it was absolutely terrible.

I still can't believe Penny accepted the role, however she was later fired. Honestly, that was a good thing since that movie was awful.

Happy Flag Day!

You can't celebrate Flag Day without Dr. Sheldon Cooper's Fun with Flags show with special guests Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler and Wil Wheaton. This is why I love watching The Big Bang Theory, it's so ridiculous.

Fashion Meets Comics - Guy's Edition: Dr. Rajesh Koothrappali (The Big Bang Theory)

I just adore Dr. Rajesh Koothrappali, he's a lovable science dork who is not afraid to get in touch with his feminine side. Raj has come a long way from needing his best friend Howard to speak for him because he was too afraid to talk to women himself. However, his colorful wardrobe is one thing that hasn't changed.

He's usually shown wearing his typical "uniform" which consist of a track jacket, sweater vest, button down shirt, khaki pants and slip on sneakers.

Fashion Meets Comics: 4 Penny Hofstadter Outfits (The Big Bang Theory)

I know technically Penny is not a comic book character but she is on a show that centers around geek culture which in my book still counts. And since I always wanted to do a Fashion Meets Comics for the characters of The Big Bang Theory I figure why not start with the most fashionable one out of the group a.k.a. Penny Hofstadter.

Out of all the characters on the show, Penny's wardrobe is the one that's changed the most. I love that it grew up along with her because she went from wearing sexy sometimes skimpy clothing to her standard effortless chic "uniform" of skinny jeans, cute tops and flats. She can also be seen on occasion wearing dresses that are sexy but have a more sophisticated vibe. However, one thing that did not change was the use of color but now it's incorporated with lace and prints.

Everything about Penny's wardrobe is easy to wear and I made a point of finding clothes that gave off that effortless look. I was so inspired by her style that I ended up creating four outfits. Let me know if I did or did not succeed on this Fashion Meets Comics post.

Happy Christmas Eve! (+ Some Geeky Christmas Shows to Watch)

Happy Christmas Eve, if you're anything like me and still need to wrap gifts (or buy a few last minute gifts). Don't get stressed out. Whether you're with family and friends or by yourself, have fun wrapping gifts. To make the most of it why not play Christmas music or watch some of your favorite Christmas movies or TV shows. Lay out snacks, bake cookies or do whatever it is that will make you relax and enjoy the moment.

Need a little bit of geeky inspiration for Christmas shows and movie to watch, here are just a small selection of some my favorites:

Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman

Season 2 episode 9: Season Greedings
Season 3 episode 11: Home is Where the Hurt Is
Season 4 episode 11: 'Twas the Night Before Mxymas

30 Days of Geek Chic, Day 15: The Big Bang Theory LEGO Kit

It's been quite a while since I was a little kid playing with LEGOs but this The Big Bang Theory kit just might be worth strolling through the toy aisles for. I am a huge fan of The Big Bang Theory and I love that unlike some LEGO kits (see some of the Scooby-Doo kits), all of the main characters are included in this.

The only reason I could probably think of for not picking this up is, it's rather on the pricey side but on the plus side it does include everything shown.

TV Round Up: Fall TV

Ah, the joy of having a day off. I spent a good portion of the day getting caught up some of the new Fall TV shows (Rosewood, Blindspot and Minority Report) and two old favorites (The Big Bang Theory and Castle). My reviews cover the current two episodes of each series in this post.

I still have to watch the Muppets but I'm also excited for the new season of Sleepy Hollow which premieres tonight. Those shows will be in the next Fall TV Round Up.

The Big Bang Theory  Mondays  8:00 PM  CBS

Rating: 5 stars

Okay, I'll be honest I never thought Leonard and Penny would actually get married but I'm glad they did because it's going to add another dimension to the series. Are they going to eventually move into Penny's apartment or continue to live separately? Where ever they end up, I highly doubt Sheldon will move out, since technically he lived there first.

Something, I am still surprised about was Sheldon was thinking about wanting to marry Amy (season 8 finale). But since Amy broke up with him before he could ask her, he's now acting even more loonier than ever instead of telling her how he felt about her. Well, I guess it wouldn't be Sheldon if he actually told Amy how he really felt.

This show is still one of my Must Watch Shows.

Rosewood   Wednesdays  8:00 PM  FOX

Rating: 3 1/2 stars

I like this show it's like a cross between Psych and House with Dr. Beaumont Rosewood Jr. being an annoying yet lovable pest as he helps the police solve crimes. So far I'm still waiting on Dr. Rosewood and Detective Annalise Villa to have more chemistry. Because the edges are still pretty rough with them trying to get along and work together.

I'm going to continue watching this series because I like the characters and the mysteries are interesting and it seems like it's gearing up to be a good series.

Castle  Mondays  10:00 PM ABC

Rating: 5 stars

This new season started out with newly appointed Captain Kate Beckett dealing with extreme danger as she found herself being hunted by a mercenary squad. That left Castle, Alexis, Esposito and Ryan trying to play catch up as they attempt to not only find her but also to figure out what was going on.

Those first two episodes were interesting but I feel like Kate's obsession is either going get her killed or someone close to her.

Blindspot   Mondays  10:00 NBC

Rating: 5 stars

This is a good show. It's a fast-paced thriller that follows a woman given the name Jane Doe who is covered in tattoos and has no idea who she is. But thanks to her tattoos she is now assisting the FBI as the tattoos lead them to clues to possible crimes.

There are moments when she will get random glimpses of her memory but it's not enough for her to determine who she is. There is a possibility that Jane may be connected to agent Kurt Weller but as Jane gathers more memories she's not so sure she's one of the good guys.

It will be interesting to see who Jane really is because there so much about her that doesn't make sense. I can't wait to see the next episode.

Minority Report   Mondays  9:00 PM  Fox

Rating: 5 stars

I really like this show, it's set in the future where crime has been mostly thwarted by the Government's use of three psychic siblings, older sister Agatha and twin brothers Dash and Arthur. They were used to predict future crimes for years but when that project no longer seemed to work it was shut down. Years later one of those children Dash now as an adult was tired of all of those horrible vision he had seen over the years and decided to see if he could help stop them. He went to police detective Lara Vega to see if she could solve the latest crimes that he saw.

This turned into an interesting partnership of sort between them but it also may put both of them in danger especially Dash. If someone finds out about Dash, him and his brother and sister could possibly wind up back in another program against their will or something much worse.

I've never seen the Minority Report movie, so I had no prior knowledge as to what this show was about. I had seen the trailers for this show and was curious about it. I'm totally glad I watched this, I can see this show turning into a new favorite.

Book Review for the Nonfiction Read-a-Thon book #5: The Science of TV's The Big Bang Theory

Book: The Science of TV's The Big Bang Theory: Explanations Even Penny Would Understand by Dave Zobel with a foreword by Howard Wolowitz

Source: Borrowed from Publisher/NetGalley for an honest review

Publication: June 9, 2015

Rating: 4 stars

Review:

I like science but even some of the explanations in this book went over my head. However, what I read was really interesting. It was so interesting that I actually stayed up all night reading it until I finished it.

Yeah, a book about science may not be everyone's must read, but I enjoyed this. I especially like how casual this was written which although filled with a lot of scientific information didn't feel like I was reading a boring text book.

This is definitely a book for someone who is a science enthusiast as well as a fan of The Big Bang Theory.

Nonfiction Read-a-Thon book #5: The Science of TV's The Big Bang Theory

I'm a huge fan of The Big Bang Theory, that show is so funny and I love all the characters. Now that the season is over, this should make for a nice little read.

Book: The Science of TV's The Big Bang Theory: Explanations Even Penny Would Understand by Dave Zobel with a foreword by Howard Wolowitz

Source: Borrowed from Publisher/NetGalley for an honest review

Publication: June 9, 2015

Description:

Reveals the hard facts behind the laughter on TV’s most popular sitcom The highest-rated scripted show on TV, The Big Bang Theory often features Sheldon, Howard, Leonard, and Raj wisecracking about scientific principles as if Penny and the rest of us should know exactly what they’re talking about.

The Science of TV’s The Big Bang Theory lets all of us in on the punchline by breaking down the show’s scientific conversations. From an explanation of why Sheldon would think 73 is the best number, to an experiment involving the physical stature of Wolowitz women, to an argument refuting Sheldon’s assertion that engineers are the Oompa-Loompas of science, author Dave Zobel maintains a humorous and informative approach and gives readers enough knowledge to make them welcome on Sheldon’s couch.

Nesting: Sheldon Cooper's Bedroom (Apartment 4A from The Big Bang Theory)

Dr. Sheldon Cooper is known for being meticulous and that goes for his bedroom. But he doesn't really strike you as the character you would seek out home décor tips from but I spotted a few that might be worth trying:

* Clean & Organized: Sheldon's bedroom is truly clean and organized with everything in its place. This might work for him but might take a bit of work for non-neat freaks. But just taking the time to make your bed or pick up items off the floor will make a real difference.

* Bookcases: He uses his two bookcases to store and display his books and collectibles. Something, I think is very interesting is his comic books are on display in baskets on the smaller bookcase. As long as they're in protective boards and they are no where near the sun that's a good place to store some of the books that you like to read on a regular basis.

Since he only has a small selection of his comics shown I figured the rest are stored in boxes probably under his bed or in the closet.

* Artwork: He has artwork in various sizes placed throughout his room be it posters, comic book cover art or photography. They add color without being too distracting.

* Baskets and Storage Boxes: They are great to store any and everything (like Sheldon uses baskets to display his comics). But don't over do it and use too many then your space will look too cluttered.

* Collectibles: He displays a few collectibles such as his train set (see the first two pictures) on a shelf above his dresser and small bookcase. There are also a few on his dresser and a Batman figurine on his tall bookcase. That old saying "Less is More" is true because even if you have a lot of collectibles you don't have to display them all. Just put out a few and you can always change them out whenever you want to.

* Hamper: We all use them but if possible try to keep it out of sight, when Sheldon's door is open it hides his hamper (see first picture). If not make sure to get one that is simple yet sophisticated (see picture below).

Bamboo Laundry Single Hamper - Hamam Stripe  $39.00 (sale)  West Elm (westelm.com)

Lastly, don't forget to let your bedroom reflect who you are. As long as you love how it looks, it shouldn't matter if anyone else does.
