Weekend Film: Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

I know it's been a while since I've posted a Weekend Film. There hasn't been a lot of movies that interest me enough to go out to the theatre. However, I have watched some interesting movies at home: The Perfect Find, Extraction 2 and few others. But now there is a movie I'm willing to go to the theatre for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

I'm a big Indiana Jones fan (no surprise there). And I really want to see this movie because it feels like it's going to be a wonderful and exciting end to the story of Indiana Jones. I'm also glad to see Karen Allen's name because I couldn't imagine Marion Ravenwood not appearing in the final movie. I also would have loved to have seen Short Round played by Ke Huy Quan to appear but it doesn't seem like that's going to happen. That is unless he shows up as a surprise cameo. Regardless, I really can't wait to see this.

Entertainment News #13: 9-1-1: Lone Star, Spider-Man, Cancelled Show and Indiana Jones

- In some unexpected news, 9-1-1: Lone Star will be moving from Monday at 9:00 PM EST to Tuesday night at 8:00 PM EST when the show returns for the upcoming fourth season on January 17, 2023. I like the idea of Lone Star moving to 8:00 PM on another night because the show actually did really well when it was at that time slot for the beginning of the third season. And since the original 9-1-1 is the current place holder for that time on Monday, it makes sense to move Lone Star to another night.

It's the 40th Anniversary of Raiders of the Lost Ark!

Happy 40th Anniversary to Raiders of the Lost Ark, this is one of my favorite movies and it was originally released in theaters on Jun 12, 1981. This movie was directed by Steven Spielberg and was created by George Lucas with the screenplay written by Philip Kaufman.

This movie introduced to the world my favorite adventurous professor, Dr. Henry "Indiana" Jones Jr. played perfectly by Harrison Ford. As well as introducing another one of my favorite characters Marion Ravenwood played also perfectly by Karen Allen. It's so unbelievable how many times I've seen this movie and it never gets old watching it.

Raiders of the Lost Ark might be 40 years old but to me it feels timeless. Happy Anniversary to an amazing film!

Indiana Jones and his Challenging Relationship with his Father

I just finished watching The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones and it's a series that I'm so glad I found. It's smart, funny and has extremely thought provoking drama that gives viewers an exciting backstory of the legendary archaeologist Dr. Henry Jones, Jr. a.k.a. Indiana Jones.

The series begins with a young Henry Jones (Corey Carrier), his parents Dr. Henry Jones, Sr. (Lloyd Owen) and Anna Jones and his governess Helen Seymour traveling around the world for his father's lecture tour. Henry got into quite a bit of trouble but he also gained a greater understanding and appreciation of different cultures.

Weekend Films: Indiana Jones Marathon and Matchmaker Mysteries: A Fatal Romance (Hallmark)

Looking for something to watch on there's an Indiana Jones movie marathon running on the Paramount channel all day. For anyone who has cut the cable cord, the movies are also available on Netflix and not to mention you can find them on DVD/Blu-ray. Indiana Jones is one of my favorite franchises because you have this professor who finds himself in all of these nonstop amazing and dangerous adventures. So if there's anyone who hasn't seen any of the movies or you're bored and want something to watch, then the Indiana Jones marathon is right there or you can go to Netflix and watch it from there.

Another movie you might want to watch tonight is the premiere of Matchmaker Mysteries: A Fatal Romance on the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries channel. It's the second movie in the series and if you haven't watched the first movie A Killer Engagement it's re-airing at 7:00 PM EST. I really enjoyed the first movie, it had an interesting mystery and I thought Danica McKellar and Victor Webster had great chemistry. I'm looking forward to seeing how they'll work together solving the mystery in tonight's movie.

Fashion Meets Fandom: Marion Ravenwood's Dress (Raiders of the Lost Ark)

Marion Ravenwood is a feisty tomboy who's independent and has a mean right hook but she's just as comfortable wearing button down shirts and pants as she is wearing this girly feminine satin dress in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Marion needed something else to wear besides the dress she was forced to wear by the self-serving archaeologist Dr. René Belloq and she found this satin dress on a pirate ship.

I can't help wondering why a satin dress was onboard and what happened to the original owner. Perhaps they robbed a luxury liner and this dress was in one of the trunks or suit cases. Or perhaps it belonged to a prostitute who once boarded the pirate ship. Who knows how the dress found its way onboard but it's stunning and perfectly suited Marion.

Happy Easter and Passover (Belatedly)

With the current state of the country and the world, at time it may seem difficult to feel happy let alone for the holiday. Which is why I want to wish everyone a Happy Easter and a Happy belated start to Passover (which I should have posted something for it sooner). No matter how you're celebrating the holiday, from indoor egg hunts to calling or video chat with family and friends, I really just want everyone to be happy and safe.

With nearly everyone continuing to stay home, I figured it would be a good time to include a fun list of Easter and Passover TV show episodes and movies. I do have two on this list that are probably stretching it holiday wise but I chose episodes from the 1960s Batman TV series the feature the villainous Egghead and the movie Raiders of the Lost Ark because Dr. Jones was looking for the legendary religious artifact the Ark of the Covenant.

Take care everyone and happy holidays!

Fashion Meets Fandom: 3 Marion Ravenwood Outfits (Raiders of the Lost Ark)

It's been a while since I've watched any of the Indiana Jones movies and I might have to do a rewatch soon. The franchise features one of my favorite characters, Marion Ravenwood. She is such a cool character, I love that Marion's brash, bold, smart, strong-willed, confident and impulsive. She's unapologetic about who she is along with not letting society or anyone else define who she is as well. I could write an entire post and more about Ms. Ravenwood but I'll save that for another day. This post is about her effortless chic style and three outfits I created inspired by her.

Does Indiana Jones' Willie Scott have any redeemable qualities?

Actress and singer Wilhelmina "Willie" Scott was not a fan favorite for Indiana Jones fans especially when she was shown as being an annoying screaming damsel-in-distress throughout most of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. I know that she was an extremely annoying character but I was wondering if she had any redeemable qualities?

Harrison Ford Breaks Down His Career, from 'Star Wars' to 'Indiana Jones' (Vanity Fair video)

I still want to continue my Harrison Ford filmography challenge but I need to schedule time to watch 30+ non-Star Wars/Indiana Jones movies. Until then, here is the actor himself going over some of his movies and roles. Since I haven't seen a lot of his movies, there are a few spoilery scenes in this video but it doesn't ruin my interest in seeing them. He talked about a lot his movies but I'm surprised he didn't mention Force 10 from Navarone, Regarding Henry or Cowboys & Aliens those were good movies.

However, he did mention The Call of the Wild which I've recently seen. It's a really good movie and prior to seeing it, I thought Buck being CGI would be distracting but he wasn't. I didn't even realize the other animals were as well until he said it in this video. Buck was actually quite adorable in the movie and Ford's performance as John Thornton was understated yet very endearing. If you like feel good movies, you should give it a chance.

DVD Pick: The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones

I considered myself to be a big Indiana Jones fan but it wasn't until recently that I found out there was a young Indiana Jones series. It was called The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles which it would later be renamed The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones when it was re-edit and released on DVD. The show starred Corey Carrier and Sean Patrick Flanery as the pre-teen and teen versions of Henry "Indiana" Jones, Jr. and aired for two seasons from 1992-1993. From what I gathered, the show follows young Indie as he goes on adventures and meets various historical figures along the way.

How did I not know this show existed? It's so funny because lately I keep finding a lot of shows from the 90s such as Hetty Wainthropp Investigates that I had no idea even existed. I've said this before and I'll continue saying it, I love watching and finding old shows. And as soon as I finish watching Hetty Wainthropp (I'm almost finished), I'll start watching this.

What old TV shows have you found or started watching?

Nesting: Marion Ravenwood's Shot Glasses (Raiders of the Lost Ark)

If there is one lesson Indiana Jones' Marion Ravenwood would want you to learn, it's this: don't challenge her to a drinking contest. You will certainly lose your money and pass out from your efforts. She took over running the bar, The Raven following the death of her father Archaeology Professor Abner Ravenwood and I think the drinking contests add a little excitement to her life running a bar in a small village in Nepal. Her high tolerance for alcohol may have been an unfair advantage but it goes to show never make a bet you're afraid to lose.

Book of Interest: The Adventures of Indiana Jones

For some reason Indiana Jones has been on my mind lately, I love watching all four movies and Indy is definitely one of my favorite characters. He's a professor and an archaeologist who goes on magnificent adventures trying to recover important artifacts, what's not to love about that. I have been thinking of getting this Indiana Jones novelization trilogy, I love reading novelizations because the authors tend to add a little something extra to the story along with giving the reader more insight to the characters.

I have the novelization for the fourth movie, Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull by James Rollins but I don't have the first three. Which is why I want to get this so I can enjoy all of Indy's adventures from the beginning but in book form.

Book: The Adventures of Indiana Jones by Campbell Black, James Kahn and Rob Macgregor

Description:

With bullwhip in hand, Indiana Jones has unearthed a wealth of ancient treasures. In Raiders of the Lost Ark, the fearless archaeologist journeys from Nepal to Cairo to the Mediterranean, dodging poisons, traps, and snakes, battling rivals old and new–all in pursuit of an ancient artifact that holds the key to dazzling, invincible power. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom finds our intrepid hero in a remote village in India, where a mysterious old shaman tells him that his arrival has been foreseen–and that he must retrieve a stolen mystical stone. And finally, in The Last Crusade, Indy must face the most challenging and personal endeavor of his life: rescue his estranged father, the eminent professor Dr. Henry Jones, from a Nazi’s lair, and recover the legendary Holy Grail. Yet Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade doesn’t mean the adventure is over. . . .
