Video: Planned Parenthood "Force of Nature"

The Supreme Court shouldn't have the final say on decisions that will affect so many people. Banning abortion is just another way of controlling people and stripping us of the right to make our own decisions about our reproductive health. We will not stop fighting until our rights are restored.

If you can, please make a donation to the National Network of Abortion Funds (https://abortionfunds.org/). Every dollar you donate through July 2nd will be matched up to $1 million.

Women's Rights. Trans Rights. Non-binary Rights. Gender Nonconforming Rights. They All = Human Rights.

Book Girl Thoughts: Just Checking In

Hi my lovely readers, I know yesterday was tough and today probably isn't much better. Which is why I was checking in to see how everyone is doing?

Have you had anything to eat? Are you making sure to get plenty of water and sleep? Do you have someone you can talk to? Are you finding ways to channel your anger, frustration and sadness? Are you finding ways to relax and decompress?

These are anxious and scary times that we are living in (for people around the world as well), I really just want to make sure that everyone is taking care of themselves and looking out for others as well. We must continue to fight back against injustice but we also have to take care of ourselves as well.

Stay safe everyone and take care.

My current thoughts on the Supreme Court's decision overturning Roe v. Wade

The Supreme Court’s horrible decision to strip the right to an abortion is outrageous and dangerous, we are being held hostage by those in power. The Supreme Court does not represent the majority of Americans and it's so disappointing that they get to make decisions that will effect everyone. And make no mistake they will continue with their plan to strip more people of their rights. They want us to give up hope and not fight back but that's exactly what we should and must do. Generations have fought for the right to have an abortion (and so many other rights) and we can't let that end with these narrow minded people in office. This is about being able to make decisions for our lives.

For anyone who is in need of an abortion, call 1-800-230-Plan or go to AbortionFinder.org. It's our lives we should be able to make the choice if and when we want to have a baby.

Fashion: Aurora Perrineau at the Westworld Fourth Season New York City Premiere

Actress Aurora Perrineau (who will play a recurring character) attended the New York City premiere for the HBO TV series Westworld's fourth season. This white tank dress with cut outs and a side slit paired with strappy sandals and minimal fuss-free accessories has an easy breezy summer vibe to it. I like it because it's a simple yet eye-catching look.

The same goes for her hair and makeup which is a combo of shiny defined curls and a soft and natural palette. Overall, this is a very clean and fresh summery look.

Art of the Day: Evan Buckley and Eddie Diaz

Artwork: Buck and Eddie poster by Linda (SkyHighRollins)

It's still 9-1-1 Mondays even if there aren't any new episodes but I wanted to know what you think of Evan "Buck" Buckley and Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz possibly being together? Do you think the Showrunners and writers will ever put them in a relationship together? Buck and Eddie have amazing chemistry (even the Showrunners have admitted it) and the way their stories and lives are so intertwined it would be really easy to shift their current best friend relationship over to a romantic one. Anyway, if you're a fan of 9-1-1, I'd love to know what you think?

Also, what do you think of this artwork? I feel like someone from 9-1-1's marketing team should have contacted the artist and hired them to do some of the official promo for the show because this is amazing.

Hiatus Watch: Girls5eva, Grand Crew, Killing It, Queer as Folk, Rutherford Falls and Wolf Like Me

I don't usually watch a lot of shows on the Peacock streaming service, the only show I really watch on there is Curious George. Hey, that animated series is in its 15th season. However, since it's Hiatus Season, I figure it's good time to watch a few more. There are six shows that I'm interested in watching: Girls5eva, Grand Crew, Killing It, Queer as Folk, Rutherford Falls and Wolf Like Me.

Girls5eva is about a singing group trying to make a come back. This looks really funny and also the show is currently in its second season. Grand Crew isn't technically a Peacock original series, it's actually an NBC series but you can watch it on Peacock. Anyway, when this show originally aired, I watched the first two episodes and really like it. Yet somehow I didn't continue watching it but I am now.

Although, I'm not keen on animals being killed, Killing It seems like an interesting series. As for Queer as Folks it's a reboot of the 90s series but it doesn't seem like the writers were trying to recreate the original show. Well, at least not entirely because there was a tragedy that happened near the end of original series. Rutherford Falls is also another show that's currently in its second season and it also looks really funny. Finally, Wolf Like Me is a show I meant to watch back in January but yet again I never got around to it. But I really want to know if she really is a werewolf or simply thinks she is.

I really can't wait to watch all of these shows. What have you been watching during Hiatus Season?

Who Wore It Best? Ken, Fred Jones or Evan Buckley

I was looking at the promo picture of Ken from the upcoming Barbie movie and this is certainly a look. It has a very 80s meets 90s feel to it. Ken's look definitely makes me think of sand, surf and coconut oil.

Taking in the overly blond hair, it made me think of two other blond guys, Fred Jones from the live-action Scooby-Doo movies and Evan "Buck" Buckley with his temporary blond hair in a flashback scene on 9-1-1. I couldn't help wondering Who Wore It Best. So, I created a fun little poll, I wanted to see who you think had the better blond look: Ken, Fred or Buck?

A) Ken (Barbie movie)

What are your plans for the weekend?

Hey guys, Happy Friday!

I hope you've a great week and are ready to unwind, relax and have a good time. Besides celebrating Father's Day, this weekend I'm going to be relaxing and catching up on my reading. I've decided that this is going to be my Summer of Reading. I have so many books that have been sitting on my shelf that I want to read and not to mention all the other books that I want to buy (or check out from the library) and read. I bought all of those books because I wanted to read them and that's what I plan to do. I'm really going to make sure I get more reading in and not just this weekend or this summer.

One week, I would really love to do a little reader's retreat at home but that's something I want to plan out. So this weekend is just regular reading. Anyway, I'm going to finish The Best of Josie and the Pussycats and post a review and then start reading another book. I don't know what that is yet but I'll figure it out.

What are your plans for the weekend? I'd love to hear what you're going to do.

Hiatus Watch: Trailer for new TV Series God's Favorite Idiot

I love finding weird, ridiculous and fun shows and the new comedy series God's Favorite Idiot seems like it perfectly fits the description. The show which has eight episodes premiered today on Netflix. This Hiatus Season, I have been finding some very interesting new shows, what shows have you been watching?

God's Favorite Idiot (Netflix)

Starring: Melissa McCarthy, Ben Falcone, Kevin Dunn, Usman Ally, Ana Scotney, Chris Sandiford, Yanic Truesdale, Leslie Bibb, Steve Mallory and more

Creator: Ben Falcone

Description:

Mid level Tech support employee Clark Thompson falls in love with co-worker Amily Luck at exactly the same time he becomes the unwitting messenger of God, filling his world with roller skating, a lake of fire and an impending apocalypse.

Quote: Eddie Diaz

Is this some kind of reality show?

~ Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz, 9-1-1 season 4 episode 13: Suspicion

This quote makes me wish that the reality show wedding scene from 9-1-1's fifth season 15 episode FOMO had included Eddie Diaz in some sort of way. Especially since back in that fourth season episode, Suspicion, he was wondering if the emergency call they were at was some sort of wedding reality show.

Yeah, I know at this point in the fifth season Eddie wasn't back to being an active firefighter. But he still could have been included in the scene somehow. Or maybe he could have heard about the reality show wedding from his best friend Evan "Buck" Buckley, especially since Buck was a big fan of that show. Or Eddie could have read something about the emergency online and had to post something about it from the LAFD Updates Twitter account. I don't know, I just think if he had known about it, he would have been very intrigued.

Trailer: Paulie Go! movie

If I didn't know Paulie Go! was set in modern times, I could easily see this being an 80s movie (minus the cellphones of course). It just has an 80s feel to it. Anyway, this looks like a fun coming-of-age movie with Paulie Go trying to find Professor Shikenjanski in hopes of getting into a program at The Shikenjanski Lab for Artifical Intelligence. This must be something really important or at least feels really important for Paulie to go on such a daunting task especially if he took someone's van.

I'll have to give this a watch, it seems like a really interesting and fun movie. If anyone else is interested in watching this, it's available VoD (Video on Demand) and DVD/Blu-ray.

Paulie Go!

Starring: Ethan Dizon, Madison Wolfe, Bernard White, David Theune, Tracie Thoms, Corinne Chooey, Grace Olsen, Jacy King and more

Director: Andrew Nackman

Writers: Jake Greene, David J. Lee and Andrew Nackman

Description:

Three Tips for Relaxing with Water

There is just something so relaxing being near water, according to a study in the Journal of Psychology, people are captivated by moving water. Which according to the study, helps us unwind and recharge. So, whether you're at the beach, at the pool or simply taking a bath there is this relaxing effect that takes over when we're near water.

To enhance that relaxing experience, put down your phone and unplug. Take the time and just enjoy being near water. If you're inland or don't have time to go to the beach or pool or you simply don't have time for a long relaxing bath, here are three tips that you can use to relax with water:

- Use a tabletop indoor water fountain. Take a 5-10 minute break, close your eyes and listen to the water moving through the fountain.

- Listen to waves or moving water. There are plenty of videos on YouTube you can play and listen to.

- Whenever it rains, turn off the TV and take a few minutes to listen to the soothing sounds of the falling rain.

Weekend Films: Color My World with Love and The Engagement Back-Up

Cheers to a Sunday filled with plenty of rest and relaxation. While I'm resting and recharging today, there are two new movies that I want to watch tonight: Color My World with Love and The Engagement Back-Up.

The first movie, Color My World with Love is a drama that follows Emma, a mother that learns to let go, so that her daughter Kendall can live her life. From the trailer it looks like Emma may struggle a bit to let go. As for the second movie, The Engagement Back-Up it's a romantic comedy that centers around a fake engagement. This is a popular trope, so it's probably fair to say that the fake couple will get their happily ever after.

I can't wait to watch both movies the only issue I have is whether to tape Color My World with Love so I can watch the first episode of Dark Winds or tape the show and watch the movie. Either way I'll figure it out. Please note, that I have the movies listed alphabetically and not by time because the first movie Color My World with Love airs at 9PM EST and The Engagement Back-Up airs at 7PM EST.

Trailer: First Kill TV Series

Although it's Hiatus Season, there are a few new TV series that are premiering such as First Kill. It's a supernatural romance series that has a vampire slayer falling for a vampire which is a supernatural tale as old as time. The series starts airing today on Netflix and I believe the first season includes eight episodes.

It's been a while since I've watched a supernatural show, I'm looking forward to seeing this. Let me know, if you watch this series, I want to know what you think of it.

Do you keep track of how many books you read?

I was thinking about this quote from Rory Gilmore where she said "Thirteen million volumes? I've read 300 books in my entire life, and I'm already 16? You know how long I would need to read 13 million books?" from the Gilmore Girls episode The Road Trip to Harvard.

It had me thinking that at 16, I had no idea how many books I had read at that point. I don't remember when I started to keep track of the books I read. But once I did, I started with a Reading List that I made and copied so that I had plenty of sheets to write down all the books I was reading. Then I moved on to using GoodReads to keep track but I haven't updated that in a long time. Now, I don't keep track at all that is unless I count posting my reviews on my blog, Book Girl. But that's still not really keeping track of my reading.

Anyway, I was thinking of going back to keeping track because I think it will help motivate me with my reading. I'm going to start with the next book I'll read after I finish reading and reviewing Tarnished and Torn (A Witchcraft Mystery book #5) by Juliet Blackwell. Which will be soon, I'm nearly finished with this book.

(Gilmore Girls season 2 episode 4: The Road Trip to Harvard)

Trailer: Ms. Marvel TV Series

Looking for something new to watch this Hiatus Season, how about the Ms. Marvel miniseries. It premiered yesterday on Disney+ and although, I haven't watched the first episode yet, I think the trailer looks really good. And aside from the changes to Kamala Khan's powers from how it is in the comic books, Ms. Marvel seems like it'll be an amazing miniseries. There are six episodes in total and a new episode will air on Wednesdays.

I'm kind of surprised the executives over at Disney+ didn't want to wait to air this until after Obi-Wan Kenobi aired. Especially since the Star Wars miniseries is the most talked about show at the moment on the streaming service with new episodes also airing on Wednesdays. I really hope viewers will tune in to watch Ms. Marvel and not just us comic book fans.

Ms. Marvel (Disney Plus)

Starring: Iman Vellani, Matt Lintz, Zenobia Shroff, Yasmeen Fletcher, Alysia Reiner, Laurel Marsden, Anjali Bhimani, Rish Shah, Farhan Akhtar and more

9-1-1's Ravi Panikkar really thinks the A-shift is weird

Hey everyone, happy Wednesday!

For some reason, I was thinking about firefighter Ravi Panikkar from the show 9-1-1. Since his first appearance in the episode Jinx, he has quickly become one of my favorite (albeit recurring) characters. He's just such a delightful person who is simply happy being himself. I just love that. But what I was thinking about is, I was wondering if whenever he hangs out with his non-firefighter friends does his ever just talk about how weird his co-workers are on A-shift? Sometimes Ravi makes me think of Alice from Alice in Wonderland because when he went from B-shift to A-shift, he found himself in a strange world filled with weird and interesting people. I doubt his friends would even believe him about all the things his co-workers somehow get themselves into. As nice and wonderful as his A-shift co-workers are they are indeed a group of beloved weirdos.

Characters Reading: Becky Botsford and Bob (WordGirl)

In the WordGirl episode Go Gadget Go, Becky Botsford and Bob were trying to enjoy some quality reading time. However, Becky's little brother TJ and his best friend Johnson interrupted her reading because they were arguing over who was WordGirl's #1 fan.

As WordGirl, she tried to settle their argument with a challenge for them to come up with a new gadget to help her fight crime. However, that brought even more interruption and trouble once robot genius villain Theodore "Tobey" MacCallister III found out about the challenge. In the end, the only one to actually get a chance to enjoy reading was Bob.

Book of Interest: Since You've Been Gone

Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson seems like an interesting story with a friend gone missing and a list to attempt. I do hope that while Emily is attempting this whimsical list, the story will also focus on Sloane's disappearance. I guess as a mystery fan, it's hard to overlook someone's disappearance from the story but hopefully it will be explained.

Book: Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson

Description:

Emily is about to take some risks and have the most unexpected summer ever.

Before Sloane, Emily didn’t go to parties, she barely talked to guys, and she didn’t do anything crazy. Enter Sloane, social tornado and the best kind of best friend—someone who yanks you out of your shell.

But right before what should have been an epic summer, Sloane just…disappears. There’s just a random to-do list with thirteen bizarre tasks that Emily would never try. But what if they can lead her to Sloane?

Apple picking at night? Okay, easy enough.

Dance until dawn? Sure. Why not?

Kiss a stranger? Wait…what?

Getting through Sloane’s list will mean a lot of firsts, and with a whole summer ahead of her—and with the unexpected help of the handsome Frank Porter—who knows what she’ll find.

Go Skinny Dipping? Um…

Fashion: Megan West

I love the rich color of this dress actress Megan West is wearing for this photo shoot. I love this ruffled V-neck halter dress, it's dramatic and glam. Weirdly, the style makes me think of those overly ruffled dresses of the 80s but in a more fashionable and chicer way. As well as a more sophisticated version of those really bad bridesmaid's dresses that had once been popular (as a way to unfortunately not have the bridesmaids out shine the bride).

As for her hair, although the stylist kept it simple it's still chic plus the dress is eye-catching enough. It might be a little difficult to see but her eyes are smudged with purple eye shadow and liner. The effect is gorgeous and dramatic and fun and goes perfectly with a soft pink lip color.

Book of Interest: Like a Sister

I can see why there are so many amateur detectives and not just in the fictional world. Because if the detectives and the police continue to ignore the case or don't put much effort into solving it. As well as continuing not to listen to loved ones of the missing or murdered victim, I can see how that would make someone feel like they have no choice but to try to solve it. Such as in this book, Like a Sister by Kellye Garrett.

I think this seems like an interesting mystery with Lena Scott trying to figure out how her sister Desiree died while possible uncovering family secrets she probably didn't want to know about. I do wonder how much reality TV will factor into this mystery since it's mentioned in the description a couple times.

Book: Like a Sister by Kellye Garrett

Description:

In this "tense, twisting mystery", no one bats an eye when a Black reality TV star is found dead—except her estranged half-sister, whose refusal to believe the official story leads her on a dangerous search for the truth.

“I found out my sister was back in New York from Instagram. I found out she’d died from the New York Daily News.”

When the body of disgraced reality TV star Desiree Pierce is found on a playground in the Bronx the morning after her 25th birthday party, the police and the media are quick to declare her death an overdose. It’s a tragedy, certainly, but not a crime.

But Desiree’s half-sister Lena Scott knows that can’t be the case. A graduate student at Columbia, Lena has spent the past decade forging her own path far from the spotlight, but some facts about Desiree just couldn’t have changed since their childhood. And Desiree would never travel above 125th Street. So why is no one listening to her?

Despite the bitter truth that the two haven’t spoken in two years, torn apart by Desiree’s partying and by their father, Mel, a wealthy and influential hip-hop mogul, Lena becomes determined to find justice for her sister, even if it means untangling her family’s darkest secrets—or ending up dead herself.

Weekend Film: Interceptor

I forgot to post a Weekend Films yesterday, there was a new Hallmark movie, Hidden Gems that premiered. It's re-airing today at 6:00 PM EST on the Hallmark Channel. I'm going to watch that as well as this Netflix action movie Interceptor. I love a good action movie especially when the lone hero is the last line of defense and somehow save the day.

How do you organize your books?

I see so many amazing pictures online of organized bookcases and bookshelves of books organize by series, genre, author, etc. (like the picture below). It makes me wish I could organize my books but I have too many to do anything.

I usually just organize my books based on whatever space I can find on a shelf. And for quite some time, I've been completely out of shelf space so that I've been storing my books in boxes or containers. At some point, I'm going to have to find some space for another bookcase but until then I'm going to keep my books as organized as I can in various boxes and containers.

Hiatus Watch: Three shows I'm watching in June

I love hiatus season, there's not a lot of new shows airing which means it's the perfect time to catch up on shows that I've gotten behind on, shows that I haven't seen or shows I want to rewatch. Aside from watching the Obi-Wan Kenobi miniseries and a few other shows, here are three shows that I'm going to watch this month:

Chicago Fire season 1 (NBC)

I bought the first season of Chicago Fire on DVD late last year and I watched the first two episodes and I really liked them. But for some reason, I never got around to watching the rest of the first season. Which is why during hiatus season, I'll watching this and maybe even get around to watching second season as well.

Starring: Taylor Kinney, Christian Stolte, Eamonn Walker, Joe Minoso, Randy Flagler, David Eigenberg, Jesse Spencer, Anthony Ferraris, Kara Killmer, Yuriy Sardarov, Monica Raymund, Miranda Rae Mayo, Daniel Kyri, Charlie Barnett, Alberto Rosende and more

Creators: Michael Brandt and Derek Haas

Description:

The story of firefighters and paramedics in the city of Chicago, both on a personal and professional level.

Photo: Arden Cho

Ingrid Yun, an idealistic young lawyer, struggling with her moral compass and her passions as she fights to climb the partner track at an elite New York City law firm. Sounds interesting, right? That's the premise of actress Arden Cho's new upcoming TV series, Partner Track. The show is adapted from the book The Partner Track by Helen Wan. Although, it's going to air on Netflix this year, so far there has been no release date announced.

As much as I wish Arden Cho was going to be in the upcoming Teen Wolf movie reprising her role as Kira Yukimura, I'm glad she going to be leading this new series.
