Pride Month: Day #30: The Last Day of Pride Month

This is the last day of Pride Month and for my challenge. I wanted to do this challenge to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community who shouldn't have to continue to fight for their equal rights and instead should simply be able to enjoy life.

I created this challenge to showcase some of my favorite characters (these were only a few of my favorites) and it shows that there are a lot but still more need to be created. Representation matters. I am proud to support the LGBTQ+ community as well as my good friend whom I've known since college, he is a wonderful, amazingly kind person. I want to wish everyone Happy Pride Month.

Book of Interest: America vol #1

America is one of the series I wish I didn't have to wait until the trade edition to read it. As much as I would like to buy all the weekly comics I want my budget would not appreciate it. Which means some comics I will have to wait until later to read.

America Chavez went from Young Avenger to having her own ongoing series, not bad for a relatively new character.

Book: America volume #1: The Life and Times of America Chavez (issues #1-6) by Gabby Rivera with illustrations by Joe Quinones

Publication: October 31, 2017

Description:

At last! Everyone's favorite no-nonsense powerhouse, America Chavez, gets her own series! Critically acclaimed young-adult novelist Gabby Rivera and all-star artist Joe Quinones unite to shine a solo spotlight on America's high-octane and hard-hitting adventures!

She was a Young Avenger. She leads the Ultimates. And now she officially claims her place as the preeminent butt-kicker of the entire Marvel Universe! But what's a super-powered teenager to do when she's looking for a little personal fulfillment? She goes to college! America just has to stop an interdimensional monster or two first and shut down a pesky alien cult that's begun worshipping her exploits before work can begin. Then she can get on with her first assignment: a field trip to the front lines of World War II - with Captain America as her wingman!

Beauty: Lydia Martin's Milkmaid Hairstyle

One of my favorite hairstyles that Lydia Martin wore on Teen Wolf was the Milkmaid Braid. Always a classic, it's so easy and effortless to do because all you have to do is make two braids then pin them up. You can leave hair out if you want but you don't have to.

It's definitely a good summer hair style especially when it's really hot and I want to do something different besides putting my hair up in a ponytail. This is such an easy, go-to style.

Pride Month: Day #28: Artwork

I love the bright colors they really stand out in this artwork.
Artwork: Pride by danshing-yehet

Currently Reading: Starbrand and Nightmask: Eternity's Children (Attend University)

Looking for something different to read I found Starbrand and Nightmask sitting on the shelf. This was a short lived series, it was cancelled with only six issues being published. I'm not very familiar with these characters but I was interested in wanting to read the series. I had bought these issues when they were first released but at the time I didn't have the time to read them until now. Hopefully, this will be a good read.

Book: Starbrand and Nightmask: Eternity's Children (Attend University) (issues #1-6) by Greg Weisman

Illustrations by Domo Stanton (#1-6) and Daniele Di Nicuolo (#4)

Color by Jordan Boyd (#1-4) and Rachelle Rosenberg (#4-6)

Letters by VC's Clayton Cowles

Edition: Single Print Issues

Description:

They're former Avengers with tremendous power, but almost zero life experience. Now, Starbrand and Nightmask are out on their own, trying to find their place as heroes, cosmic entities and...students?

College - it's a whole new universe for this pair, posing more questions than their mid-term exam. Can two all-powerful friends share a tiny dorm room? How hard is intergalactic teleportation after partying all night long? And will they keep their grades up while putting bad guys down? Time to find out!

But when Kevin and Adam try to get to freshman orientation, they instead end up trapped between Graviton, Nitro and Blizzard! Is someone else pulling these villains' cosmic strings? And when time comes for final evaluation, will Starbrand still exist to pass the test? School's in - time to get learning!

Toy Corner: Funko Scott McCall (Teen Wolf)

I had to get this Funko because I like Scott McCall. He was just a typical teenager until he went along with his friend Stiles Stilinski to go into the woods looking for half of a dead body (the police had already found the other half). It's hard to believe Scott let Stiles talk him into going into the woods at night to look for a body. Those two are such idiots. And thanks to their recklessness Scott got bitten by a werewolf and that bite dragged him into the world of the supernatural. But he used his new abilities to be a hero and although he might fail at times or make mistakes, Scott never stops trying to help.

Now that I have Funkos for Scott and Stiles, I wonder if the company will make figures for the other Teen Wolf characters?

Comic Book Wednesday: June 28th Picks

Good Morning!

What's everyone picking up this week? I have two new books on my list: Batman/Elmer Fudd Special #1 and Star Wars: Droids Unplugged #1. Who else is enjoying the DC Comics/Looney Tunes comics? They're a fun read and I think who ever came up with the idea should get plenty of credit (if not more money).

Anyway, here's the rest of my list:

Pride Month: Day #27: Nico di Angelo (Percy Jackson series)

Nico di Angelo is the son of Hades, the God of the Underworld, and is a powerful demigod. There is rarely anything he fears but he was afraid of the reaction he thought he would receive if he revealed his sexuality and not to mention his crush on Percy Jackson.

The author Rick Riordan does a great job of creating series that feature a diverse group of characters. I have read nearly all his books from Percy Jackson to the Kane Chronicle series. There is only one book left to read of the Heroes of Olympus series which Nico is actually featured quite a bit in. Following that I would like to read The Trials of Apollo and the Magnus Chase and Gods of Asgard series.

Book Review: Worlds' Finest vol #1 (New 52)

Book: Worlds' Finest volume #1: The Lost Daughters of Earth 2 (issues #0-5) by Paul Levitz

Illustrations by George Perez, Kevin Maguire, Scott Koblish, Jerry Ordway, Wes Craig and Serge Lapointe

Color by Hi-Fi and Rosemary Cheetham and letters by Carlos M. Mangual and Dezi Sienty

Edition: Trade Paperback

Rating: 4 stars

Review:

When Earth 2 was invaded by Apokolips most of the heroes died in the ongoing fight. Left to continue on was Robin (Helena Wayne) and Supergirl (Kara Zor-El) but during one battle they were accidentally transported to our world leaving them trapped here. I'm going to veer off subject for a small moment but it will relate to the review. Okay, at the start of the New 52, there was this five years where things were supposed to have happened. Such as Batman had time in that five year time span to have acquired, trained and partnered individually with four different Robins (Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim "Drake" and Damian Wayne). Yeah, like that made any sense. Ultimately, that five years became a faulty plot point that left plot holes all throughout the various series in the New 52.

DVD Tuesday: Power Rangers

Back in March, I made the decision not to see Power Rangers while it was in the theatre because at the time I had no interest in seeing it. I was going to wait for it to be released on DVD/Blu-ray. And since it's out today, I will get it, if not today then sometime this week. I want to know if the movie is any good and plus I want to see the cameo appearances some of the original rangers made.

What movies are you getting for DVD Tuesday?

Power Rangers

Description:

SABAN’S POWER RANGERS follows five ordinary teens who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove — and the world — is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so, they will have to overcome their real-life issues and before it’s too late, band together as the Power Rangers.

Pride Month: Day #26: Barbara Kean and Tabitha Galavan (Gotham)

Barbara Kean and Tabitha Galavan's relationship was actually really good. However, it wasn't until the death (or should I say murder) of Butch, who was also in a relationship with Tabitha, that things went extremely downhill for the couple once Tabitha found out it was Babs who killed him.

Dysfunction at it finest, I would compare the end to something along the lines of Harley Quinn and the Joker. Which is not surprising since it's hinted that in Gotham's upcoming fourth season Barbara may become Harley Quinn. It will be interest to see how that will happen especially since she is supposedly dead (in a shocking twist murdered by Tabitha). But death is never really permanent for some in Gotham City.

I wonder if these two will gravitate towards each in some sort of capacity because like Harley and the Joker no one does dysfunctional romance like them or is this officially the end for these two?

Book of Interest: The Sun is Also a Star

For a while, I was not reading a lot of young adult books but lately that's what I seem to either be reading or adding to my wishlist. I recently bought Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon (which I will post) and now I want to get this book by the author, The Sun is Also a Star.

The description make it seem as if it's love at first sight for these two characters. I'm not the biggest fan of insta-love but I'm trying to have an open mind when writers incorporate it into a story.

Book: The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon

Description:

The dazzling new novel from Nicola Yoon, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Everything, Everything, will have you falling in love with Natasha and Daniel as they fall in love with each other!

Natasha:
I’m a girl who believes in science and facts. Not fate. Not destiny. Or dreams that will never come true. I’m definitely not the kind of girl who meets a cute boy on a crowded New York City street and falls in love with him. Not when my family is twelve hours away from being deported to Jamaica. Falling in love with him won’t be my story.

Daniel: I’ve always been the good son, the good student, living up to my parents’ high expectations. Never the poet. Or the dreamer. But when I see her, I forget about all that. Something about Natasha makes me think that fate has something much more extraordinary in store—for both of us.

The Universe: Every moment in our lives has brought us to this single moment. A million futures lie before us. Which one will come true?

Art of the Day: Derek Hale and Stiles Stilinski

Artwork: Smile! by vanoty

Toy Corner: Dorbz Wonder Woman

I love Funko's Dorbz collection, the figures are truly befitting of the name because they are adorable. The smiling happy faces automatically have me smiling. Surprisingly this Wonder Woman figure is only the third one that I have, the first was Catwoman and the second was Falcon (which I still need to post).

This Wonder Woman movie version even has a little shield now how cute is that.

Shadowhunters Trailer and Three Sneak Peeks for S2 Ep14: "The Fair Folk"

Who watched last night's episode of Preacher? That was crazy and another new episode airs tonight at 9:00 PM EST. Do you guys want a TV Round Up for Preacher?

And since it's Monday that means it's another episode of Shadowhunters and it looks like Clary, Simon and Jace will be facing a test that might impact Clary and Simon's relationship.

I hope Luke doesn't follow through with trying to kill Valentine because getting a mysterious phone call from someone wanting you kill someone pretty much screams it's a set up. I don't trust Luke's new partner, I believe she is up to something. And until proven otherwise, I will continue to see her as some one who is secretly planning something. I wonder how the meeting between Izzy and her mother will go? Will Maryse finally show a little compassion to Izzy or continue to be judgmental and tough?

It will be interesting to see how everything turns out in this episode.

Pride Month: Day #25: Danny Mahealani (Teen Wolf)

I'm almost finished watching season three of Teen Wolf and I can't help wondering why Danny Manhealani wasn't made a main character? Since, I already know that he doesn't return for the rest of the series and it feels like a missed opportunity.

It would have been great if he had been brought into the pack because Danny is smart and seems to be clued in to the fact that there is some weird things happening in Beacon Hill. Although, I doubt it will happen but wouldn't it be great if Danny (and Ethan) returned even if it's only a cameo for the remainder of the sixth and finale season. Teen Wolf really should bring back fan favorites to close out the series.

Toy Corner: Supergirl Statue

It goes without saying that I really want this statue of Supergirl from the Supergirl TV series. I can't get over all the amazing details in the costume and not to mention that power pose. This is like a dream collector's item and I want it. However, the price is the only thing that's stopping me from immediately buying it because $129.95 is a lot of money.

Art of the Day: Mulan

I love when artists create stuff like this. It's hilarious, Mulan is still trying to pass that exam.

Lazy Sunday: Watching Netflix's Girlboss

Why is it when I start watching something, it gets cancelled or it's ending? I just started watching Netflix's Girlboss today and found out the show is now cancelled. I keep seeing that a lot of viewers think Sophia (played by Britt Robertson) is unlikeable but not every character is going to be likeable.

So far, I find the show to be interesting and starting out I think Sophia is a total mess. However, she has this desire to succeed but on her terms and she certainly knows a good deal about business and fashion. I like this show, it's so funny, too bad it will not be getting a second season.

Currently Reading: Beautiful Creatures

Yes, I finally will be reading Beautiful Creatures. I've had this sitting on my bookshelf for far too long. I know this centers around the supernatural and I'm really interested to see what this story is all about.

Book: Beautiful Creatures (Beautiful Creatures book #1) by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

Edition: Paperback

Description:

Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. Pride Month: Day #24: The Backstagers (Boom! Studios)

The Backstagers by James Tynion IV with illustrations by Rian Sygh is an eight issue all-ages comic book miniseries. It follows the backstage crew (Jory, Sasha, Aziz, Hunter and Beckett) for their school's drama club. An interesting thing about this miniseries is that the backstage contains magic that they help keep contained so no one from stage crew will find out about it.

The magic of the theater meets the magic of the backstage. So far I have only read the first four issues but I will be reading the remainder of the miniseries soon because it's really good.

Doesn't that look like an evil bunny? Perhaps she pulled the rabbit from another dimension?

Nesting: A Black Widow Mug

I have mentioned quite a few times that I have a growing mug collection. And although I don't need another one, I do like this Black Widow mug. I love the bold graphics on the outside and bright red on the inside. But what I really like is the fact that it's on sale, I might have to buy this as soon as possible.

Pride Month: Day #23: Renee Montoya and Batwoman

New Book Purchase: Wonder Woman Movie Novelization

The Wonder Woman movie is continuing to do well at the box office. Fans were hoping the movie would be good and it turned out to be even better than expected. Buying this novelization was an easy decision but with so many books on my To Read List I'm not sure when I will get around to reading it. I want to see if there are any changes from the movie.

Book: Wonder Woman: The Official Movie Novelization by Nancy Holder

Edition: Paperback

Description:

Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers...and her true destiny.

Preacher Season 2 Trailer

The Preacher returns this Sunday (6/25) on AMC at 10:00pm EST and I can't wait to see the first episode. Look at this trailer it looks all types of fun and crazy. Who else is planning on watching the new season?

Fashion Meets Comics: Peggy Carter

I was struck with an inspiration to create a Fashion Meets Comics for Peggy Carter. Her military suit was my focus but I didn't want to recreate it. Instead I was looking to create a summer outfit that still had that military feel.

For this easy summer outfit, I went with a graphic tee and paired it with a cute skirt. Thankfully Her Universe already had an Agent Carter SSR t-shirt which made it easier to put together this Peggy inspired look. Next, I found a cargo skirt and a pair of flip flops that are casual yet give off a tough sophistication.

I really like this look and I would really like to know what you think of it too.

Pride Month: David Rose (Schitt's Creek)

The show Schitt's Creek is one of the best shows I found by accident. It's really funny and it follows the Rose family, the father Johnny, his wife Moira and their two adult children David and Alexis, who went from riches to rags. The government seized all their assets except for a small town that they own called Schitt's Creek.

David Rose may be drama personified but he went from lounging around complaining and doing nothing to taking his skills to help revamp the disastrous clothing store Blouse Barn to eventually opening up his own store Rose Apothecary.

David is pansexual and although in this clip David and Stevie are discussing wine it's being used as a way to discuss his sexuality. And following a hook up between these two, Stevie wanted a clearer understanding about his sexuality.

Art of the Day: Hermione Granger

Artwork: Hermione Granger by fridouw

Toy Corner: Funko Stiles Stilinski (Teen Wolf)

As some of you might know, I had taken a break from buying Funkos figures but clearly that didn't work. Since I recently bought quite a few of them. Some of the new figures are from Teen Wolf, the Wonder Woman movie and Marvel.

I decided to post the adorable little Stiles first but I have a question, can anyone spot the mistake on the box? Do you see it? If it's Stiles' last name being misspelled, then you are correct. Throughout the entire box, there is an additional l added to his last name. I wonder if this mistake will one day make this a rare collectible but I doubt it.

Wow, this is great. I love when artists are fans because they make some of the best artwork.
