Art of the Day: Kira Yukimura

Artwork: Kira Yukimura by Knesya Art

I've said this before but I would love to read a Teen Wolf: Kira Yukimura book series or trilogy. She was such an interesting character and her story should be continued. Don't you want to know how did her training with the Skinwalkers go? And what did she do and where did she go after completing her training? Do you think she would have eventually returned to Beacon Hills or forged her own path somewhere else?

Happy Memorial Day!

It's Memorial Day and the final day of May! Today we honor all the soldiers who have sacrificed so much and thank them for their service. As well as give them all of our gratitude.

How are you celebrating the holiday? Are you cooking a wonderful meal? Going shopping either online or in stores trying to find some good sales? Relaxing with a good book or a movie and TV show marathon? However, you plan to enjoy the day, I hope it's a good and safe one.

Fandom Friday: Three Relationships That Don't Work

It's Friday, what fandom thoughts are on your mind? I was thinking about a few relationships that didn't (or don't) seem to work:

- On Gilmore Girls, I never thought Lorelai Gilmore and Christopher Hayden were ever a good match. Although, he may have been her childhood high school boyfriend and the father of her daughter Rory that didn't mean they were good for each other. Throughout the series there was always this push in the writing to get them together even though Lorelai and Luke Danes worked so much better. It took Luke being written out of character to lead to him and Lorelai breaking up so that she could finally get back together with Christopher. I guess this finally gave the writers the chance to explore the relationship between Lorelai and Christopher.

Book of Interest: The Lion of Mars

I love that children and middle grade stories are so imaginative and that you can tell that the authors really put a lot of creativity into writing them. I think The Lion of Mars by Jennifer L. Holm seems really interesting. There are quite a few stories of people living on Mars but I don't I've seen one with a kid as the main character.

Book: The Lion of Mars by Jennifer L. Holm

Description:

Blast off with New York Times bestselling and Newbery Honor-winning Jennifer L. Holm's out-of-this-world new novel about a kid raised on Mars who learns that he can't be held back by the fears of the grown-ups around him.

Bell has spent his whole life - all eleven years of it - on Mars. But he's still just a regular kid - he loves cats, any kind of cake, and is curious about the secrets the adults in the US colony are keeping. Like, why don't have contact with anyone on the other Mars colonies? Why are they so isolated? When a virus breaks out and the grown-ups all fall ill, Bell and the other children are the only ones who can help. It's up to Bell - a regular kid in a very different world - to uncover the truth and save his family ... and possibly unite an entire planet.

Mars may be a world far, far away, but in the hands of Jennifer L. Holm, beloved and bestselling author of The Fourteenth Goldfish, it can't help but feel like home.

Five shows I want to start watching in June

I wish I had more time in the day to watch TV because I'm always finding so many shows that are new or new to me that I really want to watch. I'm starting to think as weird as it might sound, I may have to scheduled time for it. If you have a lot shows to watch, how do you find the time to watch them?

Below are five shows that I want to start watching next month (which I will find the time for).

1. Bones (DVD)

Starring: Emily Deschanel, David Boreanaz, Michaela Conlin, T.J. Thyne, Tamara Taylor, John Francis Daley and more

Description:

Forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennan and cocky F.B.I. Special Agent Seeley Booth build a team to investigate murders. Quite often, there isn't more to examine than rotten flesh or mere bones.

Here's my list for this week:

Boom! Studios

Book: Specter Inspectors #4

Description:

The Spector Inspectors are on the trail of a demon and just met a ghost.
The problem is, that's the good news.
Turns out Cape Grace has a whole lot of secrets and none of those are good.

What did you think of the 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star season finales?

I wanted to write a quick write up of my opinion to the season finales for 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star. I hate to admit I was disappointed with the 9-1-1 fourth season finale, it had been described as being so unexpected. However, everything about this episode was expected. From Eddie Diaz and Captain Bobby Nash not dying to Albert Han becoming a first responder, it was too easy to figure out everything that was going to happen. The writing for 9-1-1 has become so predictable. Meanwhile, I loved the second season finale for 9-1-1: Lone Star, from the dust storm to the 126 station possibly closing, that was fantastic. In my opinion the entire Lone Star series has surpassed the original 9-1-1 series and it's quickly becoming my favorite show. And that's mainly because of the amazing writing. I feel like the writing for Lone Star is allowed to take more risks and chances giving the viewer a more satisfying show.

I find myself enjoying Lone Star so much more because the show hasn't lost the art of suspense and keeps you guessing as to what's going to happen. Sadly, 9-1-1 is really playing it too safe and the show is starting to feel stale and repetitive. The earlier seasons really took chances while these later seasons the writing feels like it coasting along in hopes of not losing any viewers. I do hope the writing will improve for the upcoming fifth season because it's not very challenging. And if it continues like this, I may have to pass on watching 9-1-1 which is too bad because it's a show I've grown to love. It's a good show that unfortunately is suffering from bland writing at the moment.

Until then, I'm really looking forward to Lone Star's upcoming third season because I have to see what's going to happen to the team and their station. I really love these characters, they're quirky and fun but smart and try their best to deal with whatever situation they find themselves in. I loved how everyone was there for Captain Tommy Vega and her twin daughters, it really hits home that the 126 truly are a family. I really love this show.

What did you think of the 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star season finales?

10 Things I Do to Feel More Energized

There are times when I feel really sluggish and tired and during those times, I try to listen to what my body needs. If I'm sitting in front of the computer for too long I like to get up and move around. A short break is usually what I need. But for other times I have 10 more things I do to feel more energized.

1. Going for a walk. Whether for 10 minutes or an hour, it makes me feel more alert and upbeat.

2. Watching some of my favorite shows and movies or watching something new. If it's the weekend, I like to spend a few hours doing nothing except that. It's the perfect way to unwind and feel a little more energized.

3. A nap. If it's good enough for babies, kids and pets why not as an adult enjoy a relaxing, energizing and restorative nap.

4. I try to accomplish at least one thing off my to-do list. Crossing something off my list always makes me feel good and energized.

5. I get a cup of hot tea and relax.

6. Drink water throughout the day. Being dehydrated can also make you feel sluggish so I make sure I stay hydrated and energized by drinking water.

7. Stretching and deep breathing. Doing both relax and energize the body.

8. Dancing. I like to put on music and dance. Moving around is a fun way to energize.

9. Going outside. Sometimes it's nice to sit outside and enjoy nature. If it's a nice and sunny day, I love to take a book and read outside.

10. Reading. The simple act of picking up a book and getting engrossed in a story is usually exactly what I need to feel energized.

What do you do to feel more energized?

Toxic Fandom Strikes Again: Oliver Stark Harassed by "9-1-1" Fans

It seems Toxic Fandom has struck again. Fans harassed actor Oliver Stark on Twitter to the point that he deactivated his account. The actor had posted that he was going to live Tweet the 9-1-1 4th season finale on Monday and from there a fan made an insensitive joke followed by more fans harassing the actor including accusing him of queerbaiting his character Evan "Buck" Buckley on the show. He doesn't write the show, so if there is any questions to his character being written as queerbaiting. I don't see the point in harassing him for a character he plays. This makes absolutely no sense.

I saw where some fans were saying that he should learn how to take a joke or not take what some fans say seriously but why should anyone have to deal with this. I think there are so many wonderful things about social media and being online but of course there are bad things as well. Which includes people becoming overly comfortable saying mean, hurtful and insensitive things to others online. It shouldn't matter if he's a celebrity or not, no one should have to deal with being harassed online. All of this was really uncalled for and it's disappointing as a fan to see this stuff constantly keep happening. Why can't fans learn boundaries? I always say that fandom should be fun but Toxic Fandom continues to ruin the experience.

I'm all for being passionate about what we love and being critical of things as well but can fans please remember to be kind and compassionate to others. Being online shouldn't make you forget that you are interacting with other people.

Fandom Friday: Random Fandom Thoughts #5

It's Friday, what fandom thoughts are on your mind?

- I'm happy that some of my favorite shows (9-1-1, 9-1-1: Lone Star and Call Me Kat) were renewed at FOX but I'm disappointed that Prodigal Son was cancelled. That show was so amazingly twisted and I don't understand why it wasn't renewed. There was no other show like it on FOX and it feels like a misstep to have cancelled the series after two seasons.

Fandom: It's Okay If You Lose Interest!

Being a fan shouldn't feel forced, if you're starting to lose interest in something whether it's a book series or your favorite character. It's okay! Sometimes we find something new and lose interest in something we once loved. You shouldn't feel like you have to force yourself to keep being a fan of it. There are things, I'm still a fan of since I was a kid (such as Wonder Woman and Star Wars) while there have been recent things I've simply lost interest in and vice versa. The main point is, that it's okay to lose interest in fandom.

Think about this, over the years, how many times have you lost interest in something? A character that was your favorite, a TV series that was once your favorite show ever, a movie you knew by heart, etc. It shouldn't be a big deal if you lost interest, fandom is what you make of it. Who knows you might eventually go back to an old favorite. For instance, while Supernatural was still on air, I lost interest in the show at least three different times. But I would some how find my way back to watching the show as if I never stopped. I also know there are so many other things I've lost interest in that I was once a big fan of and never returned to, which is absolutely fine.

What I love about being a fan is getting to determine what that means for me. I enjoy the things I like and don't feel guilty or try to force myself to like something I have no interest in or have lost interest in. Being a fan is fun because I get to choose what I like. So don't worry about losing interesting in something, it doesn't mean you're not a good fan. It just means your interest has moved on to something else. Who knows maybe your interest will return or maybe it won't. Either way, it's okay.

Nesting: "Keep Reading" Mug

Aside from books, mugs are that one item that I have enough of but still love to buy more of. I just bought a new one last week it's pink with the message "Stay Learning" (I'll post it sometime this week). And I know I don't need a new one but I really like this also pink yet floral mug with the message "Keep Reading".

This is so cute and I'm really trying to talk myself out of buying it.

Comic Book Wednesday: May 19th Picks

Happy Comic Book Wednesday!

I was wondering what's a comic book that you recommend often? I've read a lot of comics but a book I love recommending (especially to new readers) is Batgirl: Year One by Chuck Dixon and Scott Beatty with illustrations by Marcos Martin. This nine issue story is an absolutely amazing take on Barbara Gordon becoming Batgirl.

As for this week's comics, what books are you getting? I have another small list of some of my favorites but it's not about the quantity, it's about reading the books that interest you.

DC Comics

Book: Catwoman #31

Description:

Fashion: A Cute Summer Dress

Summer is quickly approaching and that means wearing really cute clothes. I love outfits that are colorful, effortless and comfortable like this cute flowy dress I found. I like how the straps crisscross in the back, it's a cute little detail.

This dress is a fashion staple that I can see wearing throughout the summer, and it truly fits that definition of an Easy Summer Outfit.

Wild Fable Sleeveless French Terry Leisure Dress                            $25.00                               Target (target.com)

Book of Interest: A Star is Bored

I don't have a Summer Reading List (at least not yet) but if I did, I would add A Star is Bored by Byran Lane to it. This seems really interesting with Charlie Besson becoming an assistant to a Hollywood star. I find it interesting that this story takes a little inspiration from the author's time as an assistant to Carrie Fisher. I can only imagine what that probably entailed especially since the late Ms. Fisher was known for being an very exuberant person. I think this will make a good summer read.

Book: A Star is Bored by Byron Lane

Description:

She needs an assistant.
He needs a hero.

Charlie Besson is tense and sweating as he prepares for a wild job interview. His car is idling, like his life, outside the Hollywood mansion of Kathi Kannon, star of stage and screen and People magazine’s Worst Dressed list. She's an actress in need of assistance, and he's adrift and in need of a lifeline.

Kathi is an icon, bestselling author, and award-winning movie star, most known for her role as Priestess Talara in a blockbuster sci-fi film. She’s also known in another role: Outrageous Hollywood royalty. Admittedly so. Famously so. Chaotically so, as Charlie quickly discovers.

Charlie gets the job, and his three-year odyssey is filled with late-night shopping sprees, last-minute trips to see the aurora borealis, and an initiation to that most sacred of Hollywood tribes: the personal assistant. But Kathi becomes much more than a boss, and as their friendship grows Charlie must make a choice. Will he always be on the sidelines of life, assisting the great forces that be, or can he step into his own life's leading role?

Art of the Day: Lois Lane

Artwork: Lois Lane by CaityKitty13

I loved watching the first three seasons of Smallville but when Lois Lane was added to the fourth season it was just what the show needed. Erica Durance brought in so much unexpected energy as Lois that it made an already good show even better.

Fashion: "Stay Positive" Tote Bag

I love tote bags, they're so perfect for carrying all my stuff which usually includes a book or two. I think this is a cute tote bag. It has a casual bohemian feel to it and I like the "Stay Positive" message and the fun and colorful art. This seems like a cool summer tote.

Book of Interest: A Pinch of Magic

A Pinch of Magic by Michelle Harrison seems very interesting. It's a fantasy mystery that will have three sisters trying to break a family curse. I love the cover, it's so adorable. I'll admit, I'm easily swayed by a good cover. They always seem to capture my attention and make me want to read the book. I guess I'll add this one to my list.

Book: A Pinch of Magic (A Pinch of Magic book #1) by Michelle Harrison

Description:

A spellbinding middle grade fantasy about three sisters who go on a quest to break the curse that’s haunted their family for generations.

The sisters set out to break the curse and free their family forever. But after stumbling upon a mysterious prisoner who claims to be able to help them, they find themselves in great danger. Nesting: Do you think 9-1-1's Eddie Diaz will ever use his Hildy Coffee Maker?

I was wondering about the Hildy Coffee Maker Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz received as a "prank gift" from his best friend Evan "Buck" Buckley in the 9-1-1 episode Future Tense (season 4 episode 3). And I wonder if he will ever use it?

Earlier in the episode, when Buck and Eddie were on an emergency call in a Hildy powered Smart House, Eddie had mentioned that he thought about getting a new fancy coffee maker. I guess Buck (and Eddie's son Christopher) thought the high-tech Hildy Coffee Maker was something Eddie wouldn't buy for himself. So, Buck bought it for him as a gift disguised as a prank.

Although, Eddie doesn't seem to have a problem with most technology (since he has a smart phone, computer, video game system and most likely a smart TV) but for some reason he was slowly becoming anti-Hildy or more like scared of Hildy. I think the idea of targeted online advertising was freaking him out because no matter where he went online he was being targeted with ads for coffee makers.

I do wonder how expensive that Hildy Coffee Maker was since it's a voice controlled self-making coffee maker that also makes espresso? It just seems like a pretty expensive prank. I noticed that in later episodes such as Breaking Point, that whenever Eddie's kitchen was shown, the Hildy Coffee Maker is no where to be seen. I guess Eddie still hasn't gotten around to using it and I wonder if he ever will? He probably still has it boxed up and stored in a closet, afraid to use it. In the Future Tense episode, Eddie had said several times that his old coffee maker was still good and he was only thinking about getting a new one. And that's the one he's still using which in Breaking Point was sitting on his kitchen counter.

I guess my question is, do you think Eddie will ever use his Hildy Coffee Maker?

Art of the Day: Wonder Woman

Artwork: Wonder Woman #43 cover by Nicola Scott

Comic Book Wednesday: May 12th Picks

Happy Comic Book Wednesday!

I wish there were more kid friendly superhero comics because kids love superheroes just as much as we do. And they should be able to read about their favorite characters without stories being a little too violent and mature for them. I just wish they had as many variety of books as we do.

Anyway, what new books are you getting today? I have three on my list: Batman, Wonder Woman and Silk. It's not a long list but they're books that I really want to read.

DC Comics

Book: Batman: The Detective #2 (of 6)

Book of Interest: The Bodies in the Library

I haven't read or bought any cozy mysteries in quite a while and I'm looking to get a few new ones. The Bodies in the Library by Marty Wingate seems like an interesting read with Hayley trying reinvent the library. According to the description, it seems she may have lied a bit to get that curator job but I'm sure she's going to do whatever she can including finding a killer in order to keep it.

Book: The Bodies in the Library (A First Edition Library Mystery book #1) by Marty Wingate

Description:

Hayley Burke's fresh start as the curator of the First Edition Society's library in Bath, England, is about to take a rotten turn in this charming new mystery series from USA Today bestselling author Marty Wingate.

Hayley Burke has landed a dream job: she is the new curator of Lady Georgiana Fowling's First Edition library. The library is kept at Middlebank House, a lovely Georgian home in Bath, England. Hayley lives on the premises and works with the finicky Glynis Woolgar, Lady Fowling's former secretary.

Mrs. Woolgar does not like Hayley's ideas to modernize the First Edition Society and bring in fresh blood. And she is not even aware of the fact that Hayley does not know the first thing about the Golden Age of Mysteries. Hayley is faking it till she makes it, and one of her plans to breathe new life into the Society is actually taking flight--an Agatha Christie fan fiction writers group is paying dues to meet up at Middlebank House.

But when one of the group is found dead in the venerable stacks of the library, Hayley has to catch the killer to save the Society and her new job.

10 Times Smart Technology has gone Bad in TV and Movies

I love technology but at times it can be a good thing while other times it feels like there is way too much tech along with it steadily advancing. And with every advancement comes with so many potential problems. This had me thinking of some TV show episodes and movies where technology doesn't always work in our favor and sometimes end up terrorizing us.

This is only a small list of tech episodes and movies but from smart houses to robots it shows how technology can sometimes end up terrorizing (or occasionally helping) us either by artificial intelligence or from someone manipulating it.

9-1-1

Season 4 episode 3: Future Tense

Description:

The 118 race to save a man under siege by his high-tech smart home, and a yoga teacher who has lost her vision. Athena hunts down a bank robber disguised by Covid protocols.

Quote: Oprah Winfrey

Books, for me, used to be a way to escape. I now consider reading a good book a sacred indulgence, a chance to be any place I choose. It is my absolute favorite way to spend time.

~ Oprah Winfrey

What's the last movie you watched or rewatched? #1

The last movies I rewatched were: The Librarian: Quest for the Spear and The 10 Year Plan. The Librarian: Quest for the Spear is a fantasy adventure that's the first movie in The Librarian movie series which would eventually lead to an amazing The Librarians TV series. I love this first movie it's action packed and super intriguing. It felt like a nice homage to the Indiana Jones movies as it follows Flynn Carsen, a 30 something former professional college student with an abundance of degrees who ended up getting a highly sought after job as a Librarian at the Metropolitan Public Library.

This was more than just a typical librarian job, Flynn would be responsible for caring for some of the world's most important and historical artifacts and knowledge. When one of the three parts of the Spear of Destiny was stolen from the library by the shadowy group Serpent Brotherhood, Flynn was tasked with finding it. He also needed to make sure the other two parts weren't found as well as prevent the pieces from being put back together because who ever completes the spear will unfortunately control the destiny of the entire world.

TV Round Up: My Thoughts on Grimm episodes 4 and 5

When I'm watching a show that's new to me such as Grimm, I resist the urge to go online and find out any information that I can about the show. I'm currently in the first season, I just finished watching the fourth and fifth episodes and I have so many questions. Do Grimm's have any active powers besides being able to identify supernatural beings? Because so far that's the only power Police Detective Nick Burkhardt who's a Grimm seems to have.

Another question I have is in the fourth episode when Billy Capra who is a Ziegevolk touched Detective Griffin, I want to know if Capra's touch will factor in later on in a future episode? Because in the episode, it was stated that if one of the Ziegevolk's touch you, they can control you. It seemed like for a little while his touch had affected the detective but I don't know if that was supposed to have happened or not.

As for the fifth episode, I want to know if Adalind Schade, a supernatural being called a Hexenbiest, is trying to get close to Police Detective Hank Griffin in order to find out more about Detective Burkhardt? I also want to know what Police Captain Sean Renard is planning because he's obviously up to something especially since he sent a Reaper away from the city who was there trying to seek revenge against Detective Burkhardt who had killed a supernatural being in the first episode who was violently attacking the detective's aunt who was also a Grimm. Since Captain Renard is also working with Adalind (or she's working for him), I really want to know what they are up to.

I'm really enjoying this show and I guess to get answers to my questions, I'll have to wait and see what happens as I continue to watch Grimm.

Happy Revenge of the 5th! Do you have a favorite Sith?

I always wonder why the Sith are so focused on gaining power and using the Force in the worst possible ways instead of helping others. But I guess that's why they're the Sith and not the heroes. Do you have a favorite Sith? Mine is Asajj Ventress. Although she technically wasn't a Sith, she was at one point an apprentice to Count Dooku but that eventually didn't work out.

However, she's still one of the best non-official Sith's there was. While working for the Dark Side, she was so evil and ruthless that it's a wonder she didn't end up killing more Jedi with each battle she was in. Surpringly, there was more to her than being a Sith disciple because believe it or not she ended up becoming a hero in the end.

Comic Book Wednesday: May 5th Picks

It's the first Comic Book Wednesday of the month!

And I don't have a lot of books on my list, only two this time but they're still good reads. Well, at least I hope so.

What books are you getting?

Happy May the 4th (or Star Wars Day)!

Alright my fellow Star Wars geeks, how are you celebrating the day? Having a movie or TV series (animated or live-action) marathon with plenty of snacks? Reading or buying a Star Wars book? Finding something new to add to your collection or starting one?

However you plan on celebrating this glorious holiday, I hope you have a really good Star Wars day and May the Fourth Be With You.

Why Does Garfield Hate Mondays?

I always wondered why Garfield hated Mondays? As a cat, what could he possibly hate about a certain day of the week when it's not like he had to go to work, school or do anything besides sleep, eat and lounge all day. Cats generally have a pretty good thing going for them.

In some Garfield comics, Mondays bring a little bit of bad luck to the orange fat cat but it's usually shown as him tripping or getting a pie thrown in his face. Yes, that's bad but nothing that's so bad that would have him hating Mondays. But I guess that's why fans find him so relatable because so many people hate Mondays. As an optimist, my approach to Mondays is probably a bit like Jon's, I'm happy about it. I know it can be annoying to everyone else which is the same as being a morning person. No one seems to like a happy cheerful person in the morning and especially on a Monday.

Well, Happy Monday everyone!

How's your weekend reading?

I wanted to check in with my fellow bookworms and readers to see how your weekend reading was going? Are you finding any time to read? If not, do you think you'll be able to make time for it?

So far, this weekend I've done really well. Between yesterday and today, I've read a good amount of my book. It's a very fast-paced story that I really don't want to put down which I consider to be the hallmark of a good read.

If you haven't already, take a little time out today to read.

Quote: Nathan Fillion

I still buy actual books. The smell, having it in your hands — there's really no substitute.

~ Nathan Fillion

Happy May!

I love the start of a new month. It has that wonderful feeling of new experiences and possibilities. A new month always feels like no matter what you're moving forward and not to look back and dwell on old problems and issues. It's a good time to try something new, maybe it's something that you've always wanted to try but have been making excuses not to. Maybe you want to challenge yourself to work harder and reach goals or perhaps it's opposite and you need to step back and relax more. Whatever this new month has in store for us, I hope it will be a good one.

Happy May, everyone!
