Nesting: A Pair of A to Z Bookends

I like these bookends, they're very artsy with an understated sophistication. I generally like bold and bright colors but every now and then I like something a bit subtle like this. I've been redoing my bookcase and I'm still looking for something to put on one of the shelves and I'm starting to consider getting this. It is really nice.

Teen Wolf 6B Trailer: "An Army To Hunt Them All"

Happy Lazy Sunday!

Who's watching the new episode of Teen Wolf tonight? It is the beginning of the end as hunters go after Scott and his pack and it's anyone's guess who will survive. I will admit I'm a little nervous to see what will happen because I don't want any of my favorite characters to get killed off. But if it happens, it will definitely be a big shock.

Nervousness aside I'm totally excited to watch tonight's episode. I know a lot of fans will be live tweeting using the hashtag #OneLastBite but I don't think I'll be on there because I want to completely focus on show.

Okay, don't forget it's on tonight at 8:00pm EST on MTV.

Fashion Meets Comics: Hermione Granger Quote Tote Bag

I'm the Queen of Tote Bags well at least that's what I call myself because I have so many of them. I like using them to carry all my stuff in especially since I use mostly small purses. I haven't bought a tote in a while but I do like this Hermione Granger quote tote, even if it's a misquote. Ron Weasley is the one who said it but it was about her. The quote "Because that’s what Hermione does," said Ron, shrugging. "When in doubt, go to the library." is in the second book Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

I do like this tote because Hermione knew the importance of the library. She could always be found in there either studying, finding a book to read for fun, researching and looking for a particular book that could help them.

Although, it might not have been Hermione who said this, I still want to get it. I think this would make a great bookish tote.

New Book Purchase: Velvet vol #3

I can't say enough of how much I love reading the Velvet series, the first two volumes were a wonderfully fast-paced spy thriller. Velvet Templeton is the best, she's a tough-as-nails character who is trying to clear her name after being accused of murder. I can't wait to read this third volume.

Book: Velvet volume #3: The Man Who Stole the World (issues #11-15) by Ed Brubaker with illustrations by Steve Epting, colors by Elizabeth Breitweiser and letters by Chris Eliopoulos

Description:

Velvet Templeton's hunt has led her into a dark web of lies, murder, and international business. And as the secrets she chases come to light, their answers all point to one place, the halls of world power - Washington, D.C..

Nesting: Princess Leia and Han Solo Pillowcase Set

I'm a huge Star Wars fans and I love this Leia and Han pillowcase set. I always thought that with the way that the characters were written that it would not have changed the scene from Empire Strikes Back if they had switched lines. Because Han saying "I love you" followed by Leia saying "I know" would still have had the same amazing effect. I still love the original scene just wanted to share my thoughts.

With that said, I love Star Wars but I'm not looking to make my entire bedding inspired by it. I think these pillowcases would be a much greater find for me. It's a little bit of Star Wars mixed with the everyday. I like that the silhouettes and quotes are in gray because then I could pair the pillowcases with just about any color or pattern for sheets and comforter. I'm really thinking about buying this.

Black Panther Teaser Trailer

Good Morning!

While I start my day with a beauty treatment (I'm deep conditioning my hair), I figure it's never too late to post this teaser trailer for Black Panther. Every time I watch this trailer, all I can think about is wanting to see the movie and wishing it was out this year instead on next year. I seriously can't wait to see it.

New Book Purchase: The Jumbies

I'm always looking for something new and different to read and The Jumbies was a book I had been wanting to buy for a while. So when I was putting together a group of books to order I made sure to include it.

The second book will be out in September and I'm hoping to have this first read before then.

Book: The Jumbies (The Jumbies book #1) by Tracey Baptiste

Description:

Corinne La Mer claims she isn't afraid of anything. Not scorpions, not the boys who tease her, and certainly not jumbies. They're just tricksters made up by parents to frighten their children. Then one night Corinne chases an agouti all the way into the forbidden forest, and shining yellow eyes follow her to the edge of the trees. They couldn't belong to a jumbie. Or could they?

When Corinne spots a beautiful stranger at the market the very next day, she knows something extraordinary is about to happen. When this same beauty, called Severine, turns up at Corinne's house, danger is in the air. Severine plans to claim the entire island for the jumbies. Corinne must call on her courage and her friends and learn to use ancient magic she didn't know she possessed to stop Severine and to save her island home.

What I Will Be Watching On Netflix: Wynonna Earp

Last night, I was searching around Netflix trying to find something new to watch and found Wynonna Earp. Sometimes, I feel like I must be destined to watch shows after they've premiered because Wynonna Earp is currently in it's second season airing new episodes on the syfy channel.

Although I added it to my queue, I haven't started watching it yet. I was a little too tired to start watching it. I didn't want to doze off and miss anything. I like to be able to focus on what I'm watching.

Anyway, Wynonna Earp is one of those shows where I keep hearing nothing but good things about. I've been recommended it so many times but never got around to watching it. And now that I found it, I really can't wait to start watching it. Maybe I'll watch it for Lazy Sunday.

Toy Corner: Superman Statue (Justice League movie)

I don't know anyone who truly thought Superman died in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Nor will it be a shock to anyone when he shows up in the Justice League movie. Which brings me to this stunning JL Superman statue.

Although it's not available until November, you can pre-order it. This is amazing, I would love to have this sitting on my bookcase.

Book of Interest: American Panda

How can you really live your life if it's already planned out for you? Which is one of the reasons why I want to read American Panda. I want to see if Mei will be able to figure out a way to live the life she wants. It seems like it will be an interesting story.

Book: American Panda by Gloria Chao

Publication: February 6, 2018

Description:

An incisive, laugh-out-loud contemporary debut about a Taiwanese-American teen whose parents want her to be a doctor and marry a Taiwanese Ivy Leaguer despite her germophobia and crush on a Japanese classmate.

At seventeen, Mei should be in high school, but skipping fourth grade was part of her parents' master plan. Now a freshman at MIT, she is on track to fulfill the rest of this predetermined future: become a doctor, marry a preapproved Taiwanese Ivy Leaguer, produce a litter of babies.

With everything her parents have sacrificed to make her cushy life a reality, Mei can't bring herself to tell them the truth--that she (1) hates germs, (2) falls asleep in biology lectures, and (3) has a crush on her classmate Darren Takahashi, who is decidedly not Taiwanese.

But when Mei reconnects with her brother, Xing, who is estranged from the family for dating the wrong woman, Mei starts to wonder if all the secrets are truly worth it. Can she find a way to be herself, whoever that is, before her web of lies unravels?

From debut author Gloria Chao comes a hilarious, heartfelt tale of how unlike the panda, life isn't always so black and white.

Teen Wolf 6B Sneak Peek Lacrosse Scene

Back when MTV first released the trailer for 6B I had wondered where Coach Finstock was, it's good to see him back. This is an interesting scene and I'm really surprised to see Scott as the Assistant Coach. Especially since it's hard to imagine anyone wanting to work with Finstock that man is way too intense.

Don't forget a new episode of Teen Wolf airs this Sunday at 8:00 pm EST on MTV.

Fashion: Keiynan Lonsdale's Looks from the SDCC

How adorable is The Flash's Keiynan Lonsdale? I guess stripes were the fashion theme for him because he attended the San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) cosplaying as Where's Wally (a Wally West name inspired take on Where's Waldo). He also wore a daring blue pinstripe suit with a stripe sweater when he attended the Entertainment Weekly Comic-Con Party. I love when guys take chances with fashion.

Description:

The Newest Installment Of The Official Marvel Cinematic Universe Tie-In Comics Is Here Just In Time For Marvel's The Avengers Movie!

How will S.H.I.E.L.D. maintain the status quo in a world full of gamma-powered rage monsters, hammer-wielding gods and men in iron suits? What exactly is the Avengers Initiative? If you thought you knew everything there was to know about Director Nick Fury and the elusive agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. -- think again!

Rating: 4 stars

Review:

Fury's Big Week did a terrific job of tying in Marvel's Phase One movies: Iron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk, Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger while setting everything up for The Avengers movie.

Director Nick Fury had a very busy week trying to keep everything from going sideways. There were several rather immediate problems that were at the forefront for S.H.I.E.L.D.. First was keeping tabs on Tony Stark who was quickly self-destructing. But with Black Widow (Natasha Romanoff) undercover at Stark Industries, she provided plenty of information to Fury about Stark's increasing erratic behavior. A S.H.I.E.L.D. scientist determined Tony was being poisoned by the palladium seeping through his arc reactor.

Next was Agent Phil Coulson stumbling upon an atmospheric discovery out in New Mexico. He was tasked with taking a team out there to investigate the situation and to keep an eye on Dr. Jane Foster who was already there studying the phenomenon. Fury also sent Hawkeye (Clint Barton) out there for further assistance. The last problem had Black Widow being tasked with monitoring General Ross' continued pursuit of Bruce Banner.

Every incident showed that S.H.I.E.L.D. was going to need help down the line because dealing with monsters, gods and high powered tech suits was going to require a bit more power. And after putting out all of those fires, Fury was attempting to find Captain America who was believed to have crashed somewhere in the arctic. All of that aside he still had to deal with the bureaucracy of the World Security Council who want him to divert attention towards activating the Tesseract.

I like this because it felt like I was reading all the scenes that could have been included in the movies. The other heroes (Iron Man, Hulk and Thor) are shown but Fury, Coulson, Black Widow and Hawkeye get the focus in this as they try to deal with all of the problems that keep popping up.

I may have waited a while to read this but I'm glad I finally did. It's a solid story with a good amount of action scenes, it's very behind the scenes of how S.H.I.E.L.D. operates.

I'm Disappointed in the Supergirl Cast for Mocking their Fans

I had to post something because fans should not be mocked or made to feel as if they are of no value. There are always going to be non-canon ships and for Jeremy Jordan (who stars as Winn Schott) to make a tasteless joke as a song about the Kara Danvers/Lena Luthor ship (or SuperCorp as fans have called it) during the San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) made no sense. It hurt even more for fans when Melissa Benoist (who stars as Supergirl) chimed in with a comment and not to mention most of the cast laughing at the joke.

Who is it hurting if fans ship this? Absolutely no one and they did not have to disrespect many of their fans for a supposed joke. And many of the responses afterwards from some of the cast have not made things any better. From most of their responses you can tell they don't seem to understand why fans are so upset. They painted many of the fans as overreacting instead of actually trying to see what they did to hurt their fans.

The reason why fans were upset has nothing to do with trying to make SuperCorp canon, it's more to do with how the fans felt disrespected or not supported by the cast. Most fans know that Kara and Lena will never become canon but the way the message was presented as a joke is what hurt for so many.

I am really surprised that the CW network has not issued out an apology but so far they have been rather quiet letting the actors do damage control which is not really working. I'm also surprised that Melissa Benoist has not apologized. Perhaps she believes that if she doesn't say anything this will simply go away but by saying nothing, all it does it makes it seem as if she doesn't care about the shows fans.

I was disappointed because I feel like fandom should be something fun but when toxicity is introduced (be it from fans/actors/writers/etc.) it can damage the experience. Fans deserve to be appreciated and not made fun of. And trust me, Hollywood knows just how great fans are at promoting their favorite things. They give shows and movies so much free publicity from their support and energy but if fans start to feel dismissed or alienated they know when to abandon it and move on to something else.

Shadowhunters Trailer and Sneak Peek for S2 E17: "A Dark Reflection"

Eventually, I'm going to have to read The Mortal Instrument books just to get a better view of Sebastian/Jonathan. I do think the show is doing a good job of telling his messed up story but I want a deeper understanding of it.

The sneak peeks look good, it so sweet that Magnus brought Alec dinner but it looks like there is trouble growing between them with Alec choosing not to disclose information. It's easy to see Simon developing a crush (again) on Maia after she help him out in last week's episode. But I really hope they stay friends because I don't think Simon is still over Clary and Maia doesn't deserve to be hurt again.

New Book Purchase: Blind Date with a Book

This past Saturday, I went to the bookstore and found a display for "Blind Date with a Book". There were several books wrapped in brown paper placed on shelves with only a vague description on a sign for any indication of what the book was about.

I took a chance and grabbed this book not really sure what I would actually end up getting once I unwrapped it. I like that the books were reasonably priced, this one was on $4.95.

Once at home, I unwrapped it and was pleasantly surprised by what I got, Love and Chaos by Gemma Burgess. After doing a quick search online I found out that this the second book in the Brooklyn Girls series. I guess now I will have to buy the first book before I can read this one.

Book: Love and Chaos (Brooklyn Girls book #2) by Gemma Burgess

Description:

Love and Chaos continues the story of our five favorite grads -- Pia, Julia, Coco, Madeleine and Angie -- sharing a brownstone and starting life in New York City. While Angie's life goes from wild to worse, Coco's self-medicating and self-loathing, Pia's breaking up and cracking up, Madeleine's finding her voice, and Julia might -- just might -- have met someone she can actually date.

Fashion Highlights from the SDCC - Gal Gadot, Shelley Hennig, Candice Patton and more

I know Comic Cons are generally about the comics, movies, TV shows, merchandise, etc. and there are a lot of good things being announced that I want to talk about. However, this post is about some of the fashionable attire I've seen in photos from the San Diego Comic-Con.

Here are some of my favorites:

Gal Gadot (Justice League movie)

I like this dress, it gives off a simple summery feel. Looking at it, you can tell it's anything but a basic white dress.

Currently Reading: Revenge Wears Prada

I bought this from the thrift store maybe a year or two ago. I had been searching through the shelves and really finding anything that I wanted to read when I spotted Revenge Wears Prada. I immediately grabbed it because there was no guarantee that it would still be on the shelf if I went back for it after searching through the rest of the shelves.

I loved the first book The Devil Wears Prada and wanted to read the sequel which I posted as a Book of Interest/Wish List four years ago. But to be honest I totally forgot about it until I saw it on the shelf that day at the thrift store. And then I forgot about it again while it sat on my bookcase until I spotted it and finally decided to read it. Yeah, I'm actually looking forward to reading this.

Book: Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns (The Devil Wears Prada book #2) by Lauren Weisberger

Edition: Paperback

Description:

Almost a decade has passed since Andy Sachs quit the "dream" job as assistant to Miranda Priestly at Runway magazine, the dream that turned out to be a nightmare. Andy has since joined forces with her former nemesis and co-assistant Emily to start The Plunge, a high-end bridal magazine that's quickly become required reading for the young and stylish. And fittingly, Andy's upcoming nuptials to the love of her life, Max, are set to be the social event of the season.

But just when Andy thinks she can put the past behind her, a twist of fate leads her back to the darkness she barely escaped ten years ago -- and directly into the path of the devil herself...

Happy Caturday!

Artwork: Catwoman issue #46 by Adam Hughes

Book Review: Life With Kevin issue #4

Book: Life with Kevin issue #4 written, illustrated and colors by Dan Parent with ink by J. Bone and letters by Jack Morelli

Edition: Digital

Description:

Kevin garners some unexpected fame after his good deed goes viral, thanks to Veronica! Plus, Kevin bumps into someone unexpected from his past!

Rating: 5 stars

Review:

Just when I thought that scruffy beard of Kevin's was gone after he shaved it off in the last issue, it returns. Aside from my dislike of the beard, this was a fun read.

In the last issue, Kevin Keller attended a high school prom with Jason Markley, a viewer who wrote to the news station to see if Kevin would be his date. Kevin was unaware that Veronica Lodge had taped it and put it online. But in her defense, she thought she was doing something good by showing how kind and caring Kevin was in helping the high school student.

This issue opens with Kevin discovering the video after learning about it from someone at the laundromat. He was not happy about it and it didn't take long for him to figure out his good friend Veronica must have posted the video.

He went to confront her but Veronica was dealing with her own troubles of getting fired from yet another job. These two are great friends and he knew that she only posted the video with good intentions. But that didn't stop him from being angry when he went to work the next day and found out that the news station was using his good deed as way to drum up ratings and not to mention exploiting Jason Markley.

Kevin was so mad he quit and in his hurry to leave the building he ran into Michael, an old boyfriend. For a second there, I thought it was Craig, the guy Kevin went out with in the second issue because both Craig and Michael have similar hair and facial hair styles. Either way they both resemble Green Arrow/Oliver Queen. Michael recently got a job in a soap opera at the station but the meeting between these two may have sparked up a bit of renewed interest for Kevin. However, a flashback shows that there's a good reason why things ended between them. But sometimes as this quote states "the heart wants what the heart wants, even that which is worse for it". (Yes, that quote is from the Wonder Woman animated movie).

It's a possibility that running into Michael may have factored in Kevin's return to the news station. With his heart leading the way Kevin went to see a taping of the soap opera however a blunder resulted in hilarious hijinks for the show. But as possibilities go it may have lead to something more between Kevin and Michael. However, finding a note addressed to him on Michael's door was not something he expected. Neither was I, since this ends on one of those pesky little cliffhangers. The Life with Kevin miniseries was initially supposed to have four issues and with this cliffhanger I hope that means either more issues are it will be turned into an ongoing series.

This issue continues with great writing and artwork by Dan Parent with the story featuring tons of humor to go along with the drama. I really hope this isn't the end of the Life with Kevin miniseries because it's too good for Archie Comics not to continue it.

Weekend Film: Girls Trip

I couldn't make it to the SDCC (San Diego Comic-Con) but for once my weekend isn't so busy that I can't go the movie theatre. I would like to see Girls Trip it looks like a really funny movie but if it's sold out then I might finally go see Spider-Man: Homecoming. I can't believe I have been able to avoid all spoilers for it.

Description:

Fitness Fashion: I have an Issue with Padded Sports Bras

Good morning, geeks!

After working out this morning I realized I need to buy new sports bras but I haven't bought any yet because I was having such a difficult time finding ones that I like. And that's mainly because I'm not a fan of the padded sports bra.

I don't understand the need to pad a sports bra. I've been looking online to see what I can find and found two from JCPenney and three from America Eagle that I like. Now I'm trying to figure out which ones to get. At all of the stores that I looked at, a majority of the sports bras were padded with at least many having the option where you can remove the padding. Since I don't want padding to begin with, I'm steering clear from all of them.

I wonder who in sports and fashion industry decided that sports bras needed to be padded?

Fashion Meets Comics: Princess Azula (Avatar: The Last Airbender)

Azula is not the typical Princess, she's a formidable warrior and firebending prodigy. She fought on the wrong side of history as she proudly enforced the will and power of her father Fire Lord Ozai in the continued efforts of his predecessors in trying to take over the world.

Princess Azula's wardrobe consist of her armor in black with her clothing in various shades of red with accents of gold. For the first look, I substituted the armor for a black blazer, tank top and peep toe high heel booties. I used the red as a pop of color for a mini skirt and jeans. Lastly, I included a gold necklace as an accent.

The second look was inspired by the Avatar: The Last Airbender third season (or book 3) episode five "The Beach". In that episode, Azula while hanging out at the beach, her wardrobe although still regal, was relaxed and casual (even if she wasn't).

It goes without saying that Azula is horrible but she does have great style.

Book Review: Blue Shoes and Happiness

Book: Blue Shoes and Happiness (No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency book #7) by Alexander McCall Smith

Edition: Paperback

Rating: 4 1/2 stars

Review:

The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency books are truly what I think of as cozy mystery because reading Blue Shoes and Happiness was like drinking a hot cup of tea. As the story plays out you are swept up in the lives of these characters before the actual mysteries start to develop. Such as with Grace Makutsi, a total misunderstanding was plaguing her as she thought her engagement with her fiancé Phuti Radiphuti was in jeopardy of ending.

And when the mysteries do start to unfold, Detective Precious Ramotswe and her assistant Detective Makutsi inadvertently found themselves with several cases such as insuring a woman would not lose her job as a cook at a university, and in a separate yet related case dealing with the senior cook of the university who was being extorted, while another case dealt with strange occurrences at a wildlife game reserve and lastly a doctor who maybe up to something questionable surrounding his patients.

Detective Ramotswe received additional help from Mr Polopetsi, who works at both her detective agency and at her husband Mr J. L. B. Matekoni's repair shop Tlokweng Road Speedy Motors.

This series is probably one of the rare instances where I'm not annoyed that it takes a while before a mystery begins which is one of my pet peeves. However, for this seventh book it felt like it took perhaps longer than the other books in the series to finally get the mystery part of the story going. There also wasn't enough attention focused on providing the reader with clues to help figure out the mysteries.

I do enjoy this series because it has unique and interesting characters and story but this time it focused a bit less on the mysteries. It felt like the detectives and their helper Mr Polopetsi knew what was going on but I felt like the reader was left out at times. It's still a wonderfully well-written, engaging and at times humorous read and I love the characters but I guess the mystery aspect could have been better.

Picture of the Teen Wolf Cast at the San Diego Comic-Con

This is a nice picture of the Teen Wolf cast at the San Diego Comic-Con. What do you think of Shelley Hennig's sheer dress, isn't it cute? And so are her shoes. She's definitely not self-conscious because I probably would have paired the dress with a tank or cami but she totally rocked this look. Don't you just love how this quickly turned into a fashion post.

Fashion Meets Comics: Star Wars Blazer

I love geeky clothes that don't look like they are. Take for instance this black and white Star Wars blazer because unless you roll up the sleeves or show off the lining no one would even know. Which means you could wear it to work.

How cute is this? If you're wondering what on the lining it features the Rebel Alliance and Imperial symbols. Although I'm partial to the Rebels, having the contrasting symbol of the villains is an interesting addition.

Good Morning and Happy Comic Book Wednesday!

Only one new book on my list: Batman '66 Meets The Legion of Super-Heroes and it's a one-shot. It marks the end (at least for now) of the Batman '66 series, I'm really surprised there was no crossover between Batman '66 and Superman. Hopefully if the series returns, that will happen.

I really wanted to see Kong when it was in the theatre but didn't get a chance to, I didn't have the time. Ugh, that's becoming the story of my life when it comes to wanting to see a movie.

Ah, Teen Wolf, it's become new favorite show and of course I'm going to get 6A or part 1 it goes without saying. Plus, it's the beginning of the end with these first ten episodes of season 6.

Kong: Skull Island

Description:

When a scientific expedition to an uncharted island awakens titanic forces of nature, a mission of discovery becomes an explosive war between monster and man.
