Wonder Woman Movie Challenge: Day #34: Diana and Queen Hippolyta

It's crazy how amazing the details are on these costumes for Diana and her mother Queen Hippolyta. I wouldn't be surprised if fashion designers take a little inspiration from all the costumes in the movie and we start seeing a lot of these details pop up during the fall season.

Book Review for Book Club: Someday, Someday, Maybe

Book: Someday, Someday, Maybe by Lauren Graham

Edition: Paperback

Rating: 4 1/2 stars

Review:

Someday, Someday, Maybe is set in the late 90s and follows twenty-something Frances "Franny" Banks as she attempts to follow her dream of becoming an actress. Franny has been living in Brooklyn for almost three years with her two roommates, Jane her best friend from college, who is a production assistant with dreams of becoming a producer and Dan, an aspiring screenwriter. In between her waitress job and taking acting classes, she has managed to land a few acting gigs but nothing that has really cemented her chances of becoming a full-time actress. It's safe to say that she has been struggling to make her dream come true.

With six months left on the deadline she gave herself, she's on a race against time to see if she truly has what it takes to be an actress. She hopes that her upcoming showcase for her acting class will be just what she needs to get noticed by agents but could a mishap on stage ruin her chances. Surprisingly, it didn't but she found herself with two very different agents to chose from. Another surprising thing was that she was getting attention from James Franklin, the hottest guy in her acting class who was already a successful up-and-coming actor.

But just as things were starting to look bright, her acting prospects started to dwindle along with her finances after she lost her waitressing job. This has her questioning whether she really does have what it takes to be an actress or should she simply give up. She is certainly putting in the hard work but is that enough.

This was an interesting book because the writing makes you feel as if you are right there taking the journey with Franny. It's a good blend of drama and well placed humor that makes this such an easy read. The writing is strong with very witty dialog and characters that feel so real. I found Franny to be delightful, naïve at times and a little quirky but you can't help wanting to root for her to succeed.

There is a little romance intertwined in this as Franny gets involved with the charming James Franklin but is there something too good to be true about him. She also finds herself starting to have feelings for her roommate Dan who is that quintessential nice guy but there is something so intriguing about him. The romance isn't the focus of this book, it's Franny and her desire to become an actress.

This was a solid read but the ending left me a little disappointed because although it concludes on a high note it does end rather abruptly. It truly left me wanting more of the story, I want to know how things work out for Franny and her friends.

I feel like this book was written for dreamers, Franny and quite a few of the characters are going after their dreams and sometimes that can be hard and often times scary thing to do. Who knows if you will succeed but you certainly won't if you give up without giving it a try. This was a fun and wonderful read.

Wonder Woman Movie Challenge: Day #35: Patty Jenkins' Quote on Wonder Woman

“What motivates Diana is philosophical. She isn’t just taking out bad guys or fighting crime. She believes in goodness and love. She is fierce and willing to fight, but only to protect a better vision for mankind.”

Wonder Woman Movie Challenge: Day #36: Toy Corner: Mattel Wonder Woman Dolls

Earlier this week, I wrote that my Mattel Wonder Woman Movie Dolls showed up. I had ordered five dolls from Toys R Us and to not go completely over my budget I decided to wait to get the Queen Hippolyta and Horse doll until later.

It's fair to say that I'm excited to see the movie and that I possibly don't need any more Wonder Woman dolls. Now I have to figure out where to store them because I have no idea where I'm going to put them. But those are problems collectors deal with.

I've always wondered why Marvel didn't continue the Agent Carter series as an ongoing comic book series. That was a missed opportunity not to capitalize on the popularity of the TV series. And after the show was cancelled it seemed like Marvel would have done something with all that fan interest in Peggy Carter. Instead it seems that they just let the interest fade away.

Nesting: 8 Reading Nooks

I love my reading nook it's comfy but at the moment it's a bit cluttered from all my recent bouts of decluttering. So until I can get it straightened up I thought I would post some reading nooks I really like.

I've seen some that are really creative and fun and some that are small yet cozy. I saw so many good ones that I had a hard time choosing which one to pick. To me it doesn't matter how you put it together as long as it's a comfortable place to read. I also feel like you don't need a big space or a lot of money to put one together. You can turn a spare corner into a reading nook or place a lot of pillows and cushions on the floor. All it matters is that you enjoy it.

Wonder Woman Movie Challenge: Day #37: Wonder Woman Tossing A Tank

How awesome is this? Of all the clips that I've seen from the Wonder Woman movie, rarely do they show her strength to this capacity. This is so cool. There should be no questions of how strong she is. Who else is ready to see this movie?

Wonder Woman Movie Challenge: Day #38: Fight For Peace T-Shirt

Yes, Wonder Woman is a warrior but her main goal is for Peace and Justice. She fights the good fight for everyone which is why I love this 'Fight for Peace' t-shirt. Wonder Woman may be fictional but she is so inspiring.

Comic Book Wednesday: April 26th Picks

Happy Comic Book Wednesday, what new books are you picking up this week? The Big Moose one shot was definitely going to be on my list, I really like the big lovable jock. I wonder if this will lead to Moose getting his own ongoing series probably not but a fan can hope.

Well, that's the only thing new on my list but the rest are pretty good as well.

Wonder Woman Movie Challenge: Day #39: Wonder Woman: The Junior Novel

This Wonder Woman Movie Challenge is great way to not only promote the movie but also some cool merchandise. So far I've posted, clips, trailers, pictures, posters and collectibles but there's also books.

This first book is a junior novelization of the movie, I also found out that there's a deluxe hardcover edition. I'm not sure what makes the deluxe different from this version because the description doesn't mention anything special. I figure the only reason it's considered deluxe is that it's hardcover.

Book: Wonder Woman: The Junior Novel by Steve Korte

Publication: May 30, 2017

Description:

To the outside world, Diana Prince is just a regular woman. But that’s not who she truly is. Diana is an Amazon princess from the island of Themyscira. She is also Wonder Woman. From a secret hidden island to the frontlines of battle, Diana is ready for the role of a lifetime—to become the hero the world needs most.

Based on the major motion picture, Wonder Woman: The Junior Novel retells the exciting story of Diana’s journey to become one of the world’s greatest heroes and features eight pages of full-color images from the film.

Misty Copeland is on the Cover of Oxygen Magazine

Hey, ballet and dance nerds, Misty Copeland is on the May/June issue of Oxygen magazine. It's already out if want to pick up a copy.

I don't think ballet dancers get enough credit for how strong they are. Just look at her form that's all strength.

DVD Tuesday: Underworld: Blood Wars

I am like a ball of restless energy right now, maybe I'll watch a movie or go for a walk. Anyway, I did not get to see Underworld: Blood Wars in the theatre like I intended. So I will be picking it sometime this week on DVD/Blu-ray. It's getting to the point where I'm waiting until movies are out on DVD to see them.

Underworld: Blood Wars

Description:

Vampire death dealer Selene (Kate Beckinsale) fends off brutal attacks from both the Lycan clan and the Vampire faction that betrayed her. With her only allies, David (Theo James) and his father Thomas (Charles Dance), she must stop the eternal war between Lycans and Vampires, even if it means she has to make the ultimate sacrifice.

Wonder Woman Movie Challenge: Day #40: A Quick Reminder

I have no idea why Warner Bros and DC Comics are taking their extremely slow time with promoting the Wonder Woman movie. So I will do it for them, here's a quick reminder, the movie will be sliding into theatres on June 2nd. Yeah, I love this clip, it's so cool.

Book of Interest: Naomi and Ely's No Kiss List

I recently watched the movie Naomi and Ely's No Kiss List on Netflix and I absolutely adored it. I love a good friendship/romantic dramedy. Naomi and Ely's were pretty much inseparable but could their friendship withstand romance drama. Specifically since they put into place a fail safe (a No Kiss List) to prevent that but things don't always go as planned. It's such a cute movie.

I found out later that the movie was based on a book and now I want to read it. I will be adding this to my wishlist as soon as possible.

Book: Naomi and Ely's No Kiss List by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan

Description:

Naomi and Ely are best friends. Inseparable since childhood. Naomi is straight. Ely is gay. Naomi dates guys who she claims to like. They’re okay, but she likes Ely more.

To protect their feelings, Naomi and Ely created a No Kiss List—a list of people neither of them is allowed to kiss under any circumstances. Naomi’s latest boyfriend Bruce isn’t on that list. But he probably should have been. Because when Ely kisses Bruce, it breaks Naomi’s heart. The result? A rift of universal proportions. Can these best friends come together again, or will this be end of Naomi and Ely: the Institution?

Wonder Woman Movie Challenge: Day #41: Movie Poster #2

Be on the lookout for my Toy Corner post sometime this week, my Mattel Wonder Woman dolls arrived yesterday and I can't wait to post them.

As for today's challenge here is another movie poster. I love this Courage poster because it's a great action shot of Diana and her shield. I really think we are going to be in for a good movie.

New Book Purchase: Iron Man: The Gauntlet

Yesterday, while I walking down the aisle of the bookstore I spotted this book. I forgot Iron Man even had a novel, it was released sometime last year. It's had a good cover which is probably why it caught my eye and it was the only copy on the shelf. Hopefully, that's a sign that it's a good read.

Book: Iron Man: The Gauntlet by Eoin Colfer

Edition: Hardcover

Description:

How Invincible Is Tony Stark When He's Stripped Of Everything...Including His Iron Man Suit?

Tony Stark is known throughout the world as many things: Corporate Tycoon. Billionaire. Inventor. Genius. But first and foremost, he is famous for being the red-and-gold-armored Super Hero, the invincible Iron Man.

What Tony's fans don't know is what happened in his childhood that led him to put away his toys and replace them with weapons designed to maintain peace and order. They don't realize how much pain he is hiding under his suit's shiny exterior. But the show must go on. People expect strength, snark, and pizzazz from him at all times, and he's not about to let them down.

Just when Stark is about to drop in on an international eco summit in Dublin as a publicity stunt, he detects an anomaly on a small island off the coast of Ireland. Tony's A.I., Friday, warns him not to investigate. Now is not the time, when he's wearing only the Party Pack, a stripped-down version of his Iron Man combat suit. But hotheaded Tony decides to swing by anyway, and that's when the party really begins. It's just not the kind of party he would normally be party to.

Find out how Tony Stark tackles both inner and outer demons in this breathless adventure by the best-selling author of Artemis Fowl.

Wonder Woman Movie Challenge: Day #42: Wonder Woman Artwork

Book Review: Charmed issue #2

Book: Charmed issue #2 by Erica Schultz with illustrations by Maria Sanapo, color by Heartwork Studios and letters by Tom Napolitano

Cover by Maria Sanapo and Heartwork Studios

Edition: Single Print Issue

Description:

Djall is the hottest new art curator in San Francisco. When Phoebe gets a premonition of an attack at a gallery, the Charmed Ones learn that Djall is more than he seems.

Rating: 5 stars

Review:

This second issue finds the demon Djall's implementing his plan at the Eisenberg Art Gallery while also trying to placate the other demons who feel he's not moving along fast enough.

Meanwhile the sisters are trying not to let their personal problems overwhelm them. Which is impossible with so much on their plates. Paige is trying to juggle all of her duties along with guiding her new charge Shaina while Piper tries to sort out her tax problem and Phoebe continues to avoid signing her contract at the newspaper.

Phoebe's premonitions seem to be acting up but her warning still stands about Piper's accountant Mr. Wiskunde. She believes he is trying to kill Piper but her premonition didn't come true the first time. But with the accountant showing up at their home he finally attacked. The sisters were able to vanquish the demon who had taken over Mr. Wiskunde but that led to another issue. Where was his soul? He's now nothing more than a statue in their home.

The sisters were unaware that demons were collecting human souls and using the bodies as vessels. In trying to figure out what to do with Mr. Wiskunde, Phoebe received another premonition that showed a demon attack at the Eisenberg Art Gallery. Paige was already going to be attending the gallery for her friend's exhibit but now the sisters would be going to stop a possible demon attack. Going to the exhibit actually helped them to find a way to help Mr. Wiskunde as well as stop a demon.

This ends on cliffhanger and it looks like the sisters may have found themselves in a bit of trouble. It will be interesting to see how they will get out of it.

I really like this second issue, there was a lot of magic and demon activity. The writing continues to be good with this issue furthering the demons plan. This was a fun read because it really does feel like your watching an episode of Charmed and the artwork and color are fantastic. So far this series is off to a great start, I can't wait to read the next issue.

Art of the Day: Poison Ivy

Earth Day wouldn't be complete without Poison Ivy. I like this picture, Ivy is totally in her element surrounded by greenery. I love how at peace she looks.

Fans want Aja Naomi King and Alfred Enoch in The Princess and the Frog Live Action Movie

Although Disney has made no announcement that The Princess and the Frog animated movie will be turned into a live action movie that has not stopped fans from making their selection for Tiana and Naveen. I don't know who started this push but I am so on board with fans asking for Aja Naomi King and Alfred Enoch to be cast in the titular roles.

Not only are they really good actors but appearance wise they look perfect for the roles. Just look at them, they already look like the real life versions of the characters. Enoch and King both star in How to Get Away with Murder on ABC as law students Wes Gibbins and Michaela Pratt. I think they have done an amazing job with those complex roles. And not to be forgotten Enoch also starred in one of my favorite movie series Harry Potter as Dean Thomas. I do wish he had received more screen time because Dean was shown more in the books than in the movies.

Back to The Princess and the Frog, it is one of my favorite movies. I love that Tiana wanted to open her own restaurant and was working towards that. Her mistake was meeting a certain charismatic frog who brought her nothing but trouble especially since she wound up turning into a frog trying to help him. This movie has plenty of action, adventure, comedy, drama, suspense and an unexpected romance. I would love to see them as Tiana and Naveen, I think they would be wonderful if they were cast.

What do you think about fans wanting Aja Naomi King and Alfred Enoch to star in The Princess and the Frog? Do you think they would be good in the roles?

Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day!

There are so many things we are doing and can do to take care of the Earth and one is to plant trees. Trees are so important to the environment they provide us with oxygen and are homes to little animals among other things. We may not be like Dr. Pamela Isley a.k.a. Poison Ivy making trees grow at our command but we can plant them.

If planting them yourself isn't an option, then maybe you can make a donation to the Arbor Day Foundation, a nonprofit conservation and education organization. Any donation you're able to give would go towards replanting trees.

Wonder Woman Movie Challenge: Day #43: Toy Corner: Funko Queen Hippolyta

I love this little Funko Queen Hippolota, isn't she adorable. I always thought Queen Hippolyta was an awesome character and one of my favorite versions is in the Wonder Woman animated movie. In it, she's an inspiring leader as well as a great fighter. The movie opens with her and the Amazons fighting against Ares and his minions and later on the ongoing years as ruler of Themysirca don't diminish her fighting skills. Because when Ares was yet again threatening the world she and the Amazons were again ready to battle and assist her daughter in the fight.

I hope the live action version of Queen Hippolyta will be just as inspiring and fierce. I can't wait to see the Wonder Woman movie.

Book of Interest: The Witch's Market

I have been looking for something different and as soon as I read the description for The Witch's Market, I immediately added it to my wishlist. I wonder if this is one of those books where the character finds out that magic is real or she simply becomes fascinated by all the research on witchcraft and the joy of everyday magic. However, the story goes, it definitely seems interesting.

Book: The Witch's Market by Mingmei Yip

Description:

Chinese-American assistant professor Eileen Chen specializes in folk religion at her San Francisco college. Though her grandmother made her living as a shamaness, Eileen publicly dismisses witchcraft as mere superstition. Yet privately, the subject intrigues her.

When a research project takes her to the Canary Islands—long rumored to be home to real witches—Eileen is struck by the lush beauty of Tenerife and its blend of Spanish and Moroccan culture. A stranger invites her to a local market where women sell amulets, charms, and love spells. Gradually Eileen immerses herself in her exotic surroundings, finding romance with a handsome young furniture maker. But as she learns more about the lives of these self-proclaimed witches, Eileen must choose how much trust to place in this new and seductive world, where love, greed, and vengeance can be as powerful, or as destructive, as any magic.

Wonder Woman Movie Challenge: Day #44: Throwback Thursday: Wonder Woman 2016 Comic-Con Panel

Book Girl Thoughts: Springtime and the Wonder Woman Movie

I'm in various stages of writing up three book reviews which is why I haven't posted any since last Thursday. I should have them finished relatively soon. Until then, I'm going to continue reading Someday, Someday, Maybe which I'm nearly finished with and New Moon.

I think I have Spring Fever because I've been completely struck by Spring Cleaning. I really want to declutter and get organized and get rid things I no longer want. The last time I did a big clean was last June when I organized the Marie Kondo way using the author and organizer's book Spark Joy: An Illustrated Master Class to the Art of Decluttering and Organizing. I already rechecked it out from the library I'm just trying to figure when I should start.

This picture of Zendaya truly represents my current Spring mood because I just feel so energized and ready to embrace the season. I totally want a fresh flowers around my small yet soon to be organized place.

I really can't wait to see the Wonder Woman movie, I hope I'm not bombarding you too much with my movie challenge. I just feel like this is such a historic event of Wonder Woman's first big screen movie that I had to do something about the lack of marketing and promotion for it. Fans have really started to notice how scarce Warner Bros. and DC Comics have been in regards to promoting this movie. It makes me wonder how much money was allotted for marketing this movie?

I guess any day now the trailers will start appearing on TV but I didn't want to wait for that which is why I created my challenge. My goal is to post something movie related until the release date (Friday, June 2nd).

Well, that's it for now enjoy this spring day.

Trailer for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Season 3

After the teaser trailer was released back in February, I was wondering when Netflix was going to release the trailer for the third season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. I love this show it's so funny.

Looking at the trailer, I think it's going to be a fun season. The full season will be available on May 19th.

Comic Book Wednesday: April 19th Picks

What's everyone picking up for this Comic Book Wednesday? My list is a little short but I have some good books on it.

Although Captain America: Steve Rogers is out today I am taking a break from buying any more books from that series until Marvel is finished with their Hydra Cap storyline. I hope at some point soon the executives over at Marvel will finally make the decision to end Cap's run as a villain and restore him as a hero. But until that happens, I can't see buying any more books because why continue to give the company my money for a version of a character I don't like.

Who else is planning on buying this?

Wonder Woman Movie Challenge: Day #48: Steve Trevor and Wonder Woman

I wonder what part of the movie this scene is from, it looks like Diana might be figuring out her next plan of action. I've seen and heard a lot fans are really excited for this movie and think it be great but there are also those who fear this will be another fail for DC Comics. I'm optimistic and believe Wonder Woman will be a worldwide phenomenon.

Currently Reading for Tackle Your TBR Read-a-thon: New Moon

I know I'm not the only book nerd who has a long To-Read list and with nothing to do I looked over some of my books. And I noticed that there are a lot that I have not read. My problem is I buy a lot of books but I need to make time to read more of them.

Which is why I'm doing another Tackle Your To Be Read (TBR) Read-a-thon, the last time I did one was two years ago. I already picked 10 books to read but my goal is to read at least 30 books on my To-Read list. I will be starting out with New Moon, I read the first Twilight book last year and was surprised by how much I actually liked it. I hope this one will be a good read too.

Book: New Moon (Twilight book #2) by Stephenie Meyer

Edition: Paperback

Description:

I knew we were both in mortal danger. Still, in that instant, I felt well. Whole. I could feel my heart racing in my chest, the blood pulsing hot and fast through my veins again. My lungs filled deep with the sweet scent that came off his skin. It was like there had never been any hole in my chest. I was perfect -- not healed, but as if there had never been a wound in the first place.

For Bella Swan, there is one thing more important than life itself: Edward Cullen. But being in love with a vampire is even more dangerous than Bella could ever have imagined. Edward has already rescued Bella from the clutches of one evil vampire, but now, as their daring relationship threatens all that is near and dear to them, they realize their troubles may be just beginning...
