Art of the Day: Staying In

Artwork: Staying In by Pascal Campion

Book of Interest: The Art of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

I know the Disney Star Wars trilogy has divided fans and whether you love it or not, The Rise of Skywalker is the final chapter in the Skywalker saga. I know how some fans were disappointed with the trilogy and I can relate because I still wish Luke Skywalker, Princess/General Leia Organa, Han Solo, Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian were portrayed better than what was shown. In a way, it felt like Disney needed to destroy the old characters in order to make the new ones look better. Which they didn't have to do since the new characters were interesting.

Even though there are things I didn't like about the sequel trilogy, I still enjoyed the movie for what they were. Anyway, I would love to get this book, The Art of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Many of you already know that I love art of books (and Star Wars) which means I have to get this. I want to see all the concept art, read the behind the scenes information and anything else that's shown.

Book: The Art of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker by Phil Szostak and Foreword by Doug Chiang

Description:

The official behind-the-scenes book of concept, production, and post-production art for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Go inside the creative process behind the most anticipated film of the century. The latest trilogy in the Star Wars film series brings the Skywalker Saga to a close and The Art of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will take readers into the creative process behind visualizing the epic worlds, creatures, characters, costumes, weapons, and vehicles of the landmark conclusion more than 40 years in the making.

Do you want a Teen Wolf Reunion? I Don't, I Want a Book Series!

As much as I love Teen Wolf and the characters I don't want the show to return. What I do want is a book series. It's only been three years since the final episode aired on MTV in 2017 and that's such a short amount of time since it's been off the air to even think about bringing it back. The recent buzz of interest for a reunion show can be attributed to actor Tyler Posey. He starred as main character Scott McCall and he posted this on Twitter on March 26th:
Hey @MTV i think it’s time to bring teen wolf back for new episodes. First Jersey shore family vacation. Now teen wolf high school reunion. I’m ready. And 28 so it’s an appropriate age

Book of Interest: A Good Girl's Guide to Murder

I found a mystery book that I really want to read, A Good Girl's Guide to Murder. I keep hearing it's a good book with an intriguing mystery. I just love when an amateur sleuth is trying to solve a mystery especially when someone doesn't want it be solved.

My fellow sleuthers, what mystery books do want to read?

Book: A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson

Description:

An addictive, twisty crime thriller about a closed local murder case that doesn't add up, and a girl who's determined to find the real killer—but not everyone wants her meddling in the past.

Everyone in Fairview knows the story.

Pretty and popular high school senior Andie Bell was murdered by her boyfriend, Sal Singh, who then killed himself. It was all anyone could talk about. And five years later, Pip sees how the tragedy still haunts her town.

But she can't shake the feeling that there was more to what happened that day. She knew Sal when she was a child, and he was always so kind to her. How could he possibly have been a killer?

Now a senior herself, Pip decides to reexamine the closed case for her final project, at first just to cast doubt on the original investigation. But soon she discovers a trail of dark secrets that might actually prove Sal innocent . . . and the line between past and present begins to blur. Someone in Fairview doesn't want Pip digging around for answers, and now her own life might be in danger.

This is the story of an investigation turned obsession, full of twists and turns and with an ending you'll never expect.

Fashion Meets Fandom: Dr. Ellie Sattler (Jurassic Park)

Jurassic Park is not a movie you would normally think of for fashion inspiration because it's really all about the dinosaurs. From the magnificent recreation of them to everyone unfortunately trying to survive once the dinosaurs are free. But before any of that starts we see paleontologist Dr. Ellen "Ellie" Sattler arriving on the island wearing this casual outfit.

Harrison Ford Filmography Challenge #5: The Mosquito Coast

The Mosquito Coast is a brilliantly crafted story. It follows Allie Fox (Harrison Ford) a restless and annoying, genius and inventor who was so disappointed with the current state of America (he believed it to be materialistic, violent and cynical) that he decided to move his family: his wife "Mother" (Helen Mirren), sons Charlie (River Phoenix) and Jerry (Jadrien Steele) and twin daughters April (Hilary Gordon) and Clover (Rebecca Gordon) to a remote area in Central America. He dreamed of creating a more simplistic life and with help from many of the locals such as Mr. Haddy (Conrad Roberts), he was well on his way of achieving that.

Comic Book Wednesday: March 25th Picks

Happy Comic Book Wednesday!

Today is truly a list day only since my local comic book store is officially closed and that means no curbside pick up this time. Since, I'm sure your comic book stores are closed as well, I was wondering for those readers such as myself who prefer reading print books, what are you going to do this week? Are you going to buy comics digitally or simply wait until you can go to the comic book store to buy you books instead?

For me, I'm going to wait, I love reading print comics and I love going to my local comic book store. The owner is so nice and helpful to all the customers and so when it's possible to either do curbside pickup or go into the store then that's what I will do. I figure this will be a good opportunity for me to get caught up on reading some of my comics.

So for now, take care everyone and to my fellow print comic book fans, when the time is right we'll get our books and to my digital comic book fans, have a good time reading all your books.

Art of the Day: Catwoman

Artwork: Catwoman by Des Taylor

This makes me think that Selina is wondering if she should stay in or go out into the rain to steal from some of her high profile targets. Or she just got back from a successful heist and is taking a quiet moment to enjoy it.

Just Checking Up On My Readers

I just wanted to check up on my readers to see how everyone is doing because of the Coronavirus. I hope everyone is taking good care of themselves. I was wondering what you've been doing to pass the time while you're staying home? Are you finding more time to read? Have you finally gotten around to watching that TV series or movies you kept promising yourself you'd watch? Are there any hobbies you've started or went back to?

Since, I know not everyone is able to stay home, I also wanted to know how those who are working are doing? These are stressful times and I was wondering if you're making sure to relax when you get home?

As for me, I've been doing more Sudoku puzzles, I find it really relaxing trying to solve the puzzles. Reading wise, I started To All The Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han and so far I'm really enjoying it. I've also been watching quite a few TV shows and movies along with continuing my non-Star Wars/Indiana Jones Harrison Ford Filmography Challenge. The next movie I'll watch is The Mosquito Coast and when I bought it, I also bought the book it was based on, The Mosquito Coast by Paul Theroux. Not sure when I'll read the book but I'm looking forward to it, until then I'll happily watch the movie.

I really just wanted to know how you all were doing and hoping you're keeping yourselves relaxed, entertained and in good health.

Fashion Meets Fandom: 3 Marion Ravenwood Outfits (Raiders of the Lost Ark)

It's been a while since I've watched any of the Indiana Jones movies and I might have to do a rewatch soon. The franchise features one of my favorite characters, Marion Ravenwood. She is such a cool character, I love that Marion's brash, bold, smart, strong-willed, confident and impulsive. She's unapologetic about who she is along with not letting society or anyone else define who she is as well. I could write an entire post and more about Ms. Ravenwood but I'll save that for another day. This post is about her effortless chic style and three outfits I created inspired by her.

Harrison Ford Filmography Challenge #4: Witness

Witness was a good movie, it's a crime romantic drama that follows Rachel Lapp (Kelly McGillis), an Amish widowed mother and her young son, Samuel (Lukas Haas) who were traveling from Lancaster County, PA by train to visit her sister in Baltimore, MD. As they were waiting at a Philadelphia train station for their next train, Samuel went to the restroom and ended up witnessing a brutal murder of a later identified police officer. However, quick thinking kept the little boy from being seen by the murderers.

Happy First Day of Spring!

Okay, it's not really a holiday but it's the start of a new season, spring. I did a little research and spring signals rebirth, renewal and trying something new with the symbols and themes of love, hope, youth and growth.

In putting together this Unofficial Holiday Geeky List, I took the meaning of spring into consideration. I found TV show episodes that either fit the meaning of the season or they simply focus on enjoying spring break. Hopefully, it will make you feel happy about the beginning of a new and warmer season.

Harrison Ford Filmography Challenge #3: Blade Runner (The Final Cut)

Blade Runner is an excellent movie, it's a sci-fi noir thriller that's set on Earth in 2019 as it follows Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a Blade Runner which is a special police officer that goes after replicants (bio-engineered androids or artificial humans) and retire (kill) them. He was tasked to go after four fugitive replicants Zhora (Joanna Cassidy), Roy Batty (Rutger Hauer), Leon (Brion James) and Pris (Daryl Hannah), who had murdered people in their attempt to get to the Tyrell Corporation.

Comic Book Wednesday: March 18th Picks

Although most of us can't get to the comic book store, it's still Comic Book Wednesday! So, what book were you planning on getting today? Out of my usual books, I have the special Robin 80th Anniversary issue.

It's so cool that Robin a.k.a Dick Grayson has been around for 80 years (this April). And not to take anything away from the other Robins who were created later (I adore Tim Drake) but this is really Dick Grayson's celebration. I know the special issue is going to focus on all the Robins but I do hope there will be more attention given to him.

Aside from that, I hope to get my books sometime this week since I believe my local comic book store will be offering curbside pick up. Customers will be given a chance to pay for their orders over the phone then pick up their books.

Well, here's my list. Take care everyone.

New Release Tuesday: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Novelization

The novelization for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is out today! Yay, aren't you excited? Okay, probably not especially since not a lot of movie fans buy novelizations which I wish they would. The writers generally add in additional information to the story.

I know there's a health crisis right now, which means we are not to go out unless necessary and buying a book is not a priority. Plus, I highly doubt there are many bookstores open anyway. So I'll ask, how many of you are going to order this today? Since, I didn't pre-order it, I'm going to try to order it today. I want to read it and see what new information was included in the story.

Book: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Novelization by Rae Carson

Description:

Witness the epic final chapter of the Skywalker saga with the official novelization of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, including expanded scenes and additional content not seen in theaters!

The Resistance has been reborn. But although Rey and her fellow heroes are back in the fight, the war against the First Order, now led by Supreme Leader Kylo Ren, is far from over. Just as the spark of rebellion is rekindling, a mysterious signal broadcasts throughout the galaxy, with a chilling message: Emperor Palpatine, long thought defeated and destroyed, is back from the dead.

Has the ancient Lord of the Sith truly returned? Kylo Ren cuts a swath of destruction across the stars, determined to discover any challenge to his control over the First Order and his destiny to rule over the galaxy—and crush it completely. Meanwhile, to discover the truth, Rey, Finn, Poe, and the Resistance must embark on the most perilous adventure they have ever faced.

Featuring all-new scenes adapted from never-before-seen material, deleted scenes, and input from the filmmakers, the story that began in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and continued in Star Wars: The Last Jedi reaches an astounding conclusion.

Art of the Day: Black Canary and Harley Quinn (Birds of Prey)

Artwork: Black Canary and Harley Quinn by Datrinti (Tiago Ribeiro)

What did you guys think of the Supergirl episode Reality Bytes?

I thought last night's episode of Supergirl, Reality Bytes was really good. I love how Nia Nal a.k.a Dreamer has grown into being a confident hero. This episode dealt with a tough and personal subject matter in regards to Nia as it tackled transphobia and the growing violence against the transgender community. Nia was rightfully angry after her roommate Yvette was attacked because of hatred towards Dreamer, a trans superhero. And it's understandable that she wanted revenge and wanted to go after the guy who did it. However, she realized that as a hero, she had to let justice run its course and not take matters into her own hands by becoming a vigilante.

I really like the friendship between Nia and Kara Danvers (Supergirl) and that moment between them at CatCo was so heartfelt. I've said it before but I think Nia was a really good addition to the show and I hope she'll continue to get more good screen time along with more complex storylines. She has easily become one of my favorite characters on the show.

Does Indiana Jones' Willie Scott have any redeemable qualities?

Actress and singer Wilhelmina "Willie" Scott was not a fan favorite for Indiana Jones fans especially when she was shown as being an annoying screaming damsel-in-distress throughout most of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. I know that she was an extremely annoying character but I was wondering if she had any redeemable qualities?

(Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom)

Book of Interest: Ash Princess

There are some book descriptions that easily spark my interest such as the plot features a big evil being overthrown. Which is probably why I love reading superhero comics, watching the movies and shows and being a really big fan of Star Wars. I love to see the heroes (or a ragtag group) trying to save the day.

Anyway, this first book in the Ash Princess series is a story that I really want to read as it follows a princess trying to free her people and reclaim her throne. This is going on my list of Must Read Books because I simply have to read it.

Book: Ash Princess (Ash Princess book #1) by Laura Sebastian

Description:

Ash Princess is an epic new fantasy about a throne cruelly stolen and a girl who must fight to take it back for her people.

Theodosia was six when her country was invaded and her mother, the Fire Queen, was murdered before her eyes. On that day, the Kaiser took Theodosia's family, her land, and her name. Theo was crowned Ash Princess--a title of shame to bear in her new life as a prisoner.

For ten years Theo has been a captive in her own palace. She's endured the relentless abuse and ridicule of the Kaiser and his court. She is powerless, surviving in her new world only by burying the girl she was deep inside.

Then, one night, the Kaiser forces her to do the unthinkable. With blood on her hands and all hope of reclaiming her throne lost, she realizes that surviving is no longer enough. But she does have a weapon: her mind is sharper than any sword. And power isn't always won on the battlefield.

For ten years, the Ash Princess has seen her land pillaged and her people enslaved. That all ends here.

Lazy Sunday: Eat Chocolate

As you're relaxing on this Lazy Sunday, why not eat some chocolate. According to research, this sweet and delicious snack contains the compound phenylethylamine which is a mood-enhancing stimulant. It also boosts our serotonin levels making us feel happy. So while you're enjoying your Lazy Sunday, maybe watching a movie, a TV show or reading a book, why not take a chocolate break.

My absolute favorite is dark chocolate and according to research, it contains more antioxidants and less sugar than milk chocolate. This is good to know since I always keep a bar (or two) in the refrigerator and enjoy having a few pieces daily for a nice treat.

Fashion Meets Fandom: Han Solo's Camouflage Coat in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi

I always found it interesting that in the original Star Wars trilogy, the characters didn't have a lot of wardrobe changes. Take for instance, Han Solo who mainly wore a similar look of a white shirt, vest and pants throughout the first three movies along with the occasional jacket (Solo: A Star Wars Story, The Empire Strikes Back and The Force Awakens) for a slight change.

There is one item that really stood out in his wardrobe and that was the camouflage trench coat he wore in Return of the Jedi. I always wondered why he wore that for the mission to Endor? Although the trench coat seemed out of place in the forest, it was perfectly in character for the overly confident general and former smuggler. It just seemed like something he would wear and I really couldn't see him choosing to wear a poncho like Princess Leia Organa and Luke Skywalker wore when the trio and some of the rebels were on Endor. Despite his scruffy and disheveled appearance, he has this swagger and bravado about him that lets you know that he cares about how he looks and would not want to wear a poncho because he thinks it's not cool.

I do wonder if the camo coat was something he already owned and was waiting for the perfect opportunity to wear it or something that was supplied by the Rebel Alliance. Fashion wise, I guess Han stuck with what worked for him since his style never changed much throughout five movies with the exception of this camouflage coat.

What are your thoughts on Smallville's pilot episode?

I thought the pilot episode of Smallville was perfect. There are not many first episodes I would say that about but Smallville truly pulled it off. The showrunners did a fantastic job of keeping classic elements of the Superman origin story but also introducing changes that allowed the story to feel new and fresh in 2001 despite the Man of Steel at that point in time having been around for 63 years.

Fashion Meets Fandom: Jawa Earrings

I really couldn't see myself wearing these Jawa earrings but I do think these ugly little things are so cute. Since I wouldn't wear them, I'd just add them to my Star Wars collection. However, for anyone who would wear them, I think they would be cute and fun to wear if you have a creative job or on the weekend.

I couldn't help noticing that these Jawas remind me of Orko (minus the pointy ears) from the 80s He-Man animated series. I don't know, they just have this happy look to them like Orko that Jawas usually don't have.

Book of Interest: Most Likely

I really want to read Most Likely, it seems like an interesting story that's focusing on friendship and possibility that one of the four girls will one day become President of the United States. I do wonder if that will be revealed at some point in the story or will it be left up to interpretation.

Book: Most Likely by Sarah Watson

Description:

From the creator of the hit TV series The Bold Type comes an empowering and heartfelt novel about a future female president's senior year of high school.

Ava, CJ, Jordan, and Martha (listed in alphabetical order out of fairness) have been friends since kindergarten. Now they're in their senior year, facing their biggest fears about growing up and growing apart. But there's more than just college on the horizon. One of these girls is destined to become the president of the United States. The mystery, of course, is which girl gets the gig.

Is it Ava, the picture-perfect artist who's secretly struggling to figure out where she belongs? Or could it be CJ, the one who's got everything figured out...except how to fix her terrible SAT scores? Maybe it's Jordan, the group's resident journalist, who knows she's ready for more than their small Ohio suburb can offer. And don't overlook Martha, who will have to overcome all the obstacles that stand in the way of her dreams.

This is the story of four best friends who have one another's backs through every new love, breakup, stumble, and success—proving that great friendships can help young women achieve anything...even a seat in the Oval Office.

Comic Book Wednesday: March 11th Picks

Happy Comic Book Wednesday!

Lately, I've been thinking of rewatching the DC Comics Extended Universe (DCEU) movies. It's only seven movies (eight if you include Birds of Prey but that's still in theatres), so a rewatch would only take a week or two. I'm not sure if I should start the rewatch during or after my Harrison Ford Filmography Challenge. Which I am still doing and the next movie I'll watch is Blade Runner. Over the years, I've heard so much about this movie, I really can't believe I've never seen it. Well, I will soon.

Anyway, on to the books. There's only two new ones on my list: Betty & Veronica: Friends Forever and Marvel Tales featuring Silver Surfer and the rest are my usual group of books. So, what new books are you picking up this week?

Fashion Meets Fandom: Luke Skywalker's Poncho in Star Wars: A New Hope

Can we discuss Luke Skywalker's poncho from Star Wars: A New Hope.

It's so awful but I feel like it reflects someone who at 19 years old, doesn't have a care in the world aside from trying to get away from his desert planet Tatooine. Luke really doesn't have much of a fashion sense, his best look in A New Hope was the outfit he wore for the medal ceremony. The yellow jacket, black top, brown pants and tall black boots (which I believed he borrowed the entire outfit from Han Solo) felt like the start of his fashion evolution which continued in The Empire Strikes Back with the military style green suit followed by the infamous and stylish black suit in Return of the Jedi.

Fandom Friday: How can iCarly share the same universe as Henry Danger?

I don't understand how iCarly can be in the same universe as Henry Danger on Nickelodeon. On Game Shakers, the characters Triple G, Hudson, Babe and Kenzie are really big fans of the iCarly TV series to the point that they snuck into the hotel room of actor Nathan Kress (who played Freddie Benson on iCarly) to ask him questions about the show on the episode Game Shippers.

Happy World Book Day!

What better way to celebrate World Book Day (and National Reading Month) than by finding some time to read? What book (or books) are you currently reading?

Although today's WBD is for those in the UK and Ireland, I still wanted to wish everyone a Happy World Book Day. For us in the United States it's next month on April 23rd, I'm not sure what the dates are for other countries but I think it's the 4/23 as well. Regardless, I'll wish everyone a Happy World Book Day again in April.

According to the World Book Day website, the day was created "to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading by providing them with the opportunity to have a book of their own". I think that's absolutely wonderful and to add to that I also hope the day will encourage everyone to read. It doesn't matter if it's a physical, digital or audio book, all that matters is you're taking a little time to read.

Art of the Day: Derek Hale and Stiles Stilinski

Artwork: Anchor by NaSyu (Artmetica)

This makes me want to rewatch Teen Wolf because I love how Derek Hale and Stiles Stilinski went from barely tolerating each other to becoming friends. I always thought it was interesting that Stiles was Derek's anchor.

That really was a missed opportunity to not have shown Stiles finding out especially since at one point in the series a werewolf''s connection to an anchor and their humanity was an important issue. And finding out that Derek's anchor was no longer anger but instead Stiles I think it would have been really interesting to have seen Stiles' reaction.

It's the 2nd Anniversary of the "Star Wars Rebels" Series Finale

Today is the 2nd anniversary of Star Wars Rebels' final episode. I will admit, it took a while for this show to grow on me but once it did I grew to love it. As far as the writing goes, I thought the episodes were well-written and contained complex storytelling that explored some of the more mystical elements of the Force. Which is something I really enjoyed. I also like that the show explored a deeper understanding of what it means to be a Rebel, a Jedi, and part of a family because these ragtag characters may have been a team but they quickly became a family.

As for the characters, I instantly liked Hera, Kanan, Sabine, Zeb and Chopper but it was the opposite for Ezra. I know I've mentioned quite a few time how annoying I thought he was. He definitely wasn't one of my favorite characters when I first started watching the series, however, as the show went on Ezra grew into an interesting character.

Although, Star Wars: The Clone Wars is my favorite Star Wars animated series, Rebels is not that far behind. I also like that the show included some of the older characters from The Clone Wars, the movies and books.

I think when I get a chance, I'll rewatch the show.

Fashion: Carrie Fisher's Jumpsuit

One of the things I love about fashion is that it never truly goes out of style. It always returns in some shape or form because "Everything Old is New Again". Take for instance the jumpsuit, it's a simple piece that's easy to wear and designers are always revamping it to keep it fresh. However, I find it still has a vintage feel.

I think Carrie Fisher looked absolutely cool and sophisticated in this wrap jumpsuit. After seeing this picture, I was inspired to get the look and found five jumpsuits that have a similar timeless feel.

New pictures of the Batmobile from The Batman movie

I'm sure by now my fellow Batman and comic book fans have seen the pictures of the Batmobile from upcoming The Batman movie. The pictures were released by director Matt Reeves and they show a lot of details about the car. What do you guys think of the Batmobile?

I think it's okay, it's really a bit underwhelming and that also includes the Batsuit. The car looks like a weird combination of different Batmobile parts merged into one. I don't know, so far it's not that exciting. I guess I'll just have to wait and see how it looks on screen once the movie is released.

Comic Book Wednesday: March 4th Picks

As an avid comic book reader, I was wonder what would bring in new readers? I know Free Comic Book Day works in getting readers in the stores but what about the rest of the year? What should publishers do to get new readers? I know two things they could do:

1) Lower prices. If you buy a lot of books they really start to add it up and lowering the prices would be a good way to bring in more readers.

2) Less reboots. Publishers don't need to keep restarting to gain new readers. I remember when I first started reading comics, I didn't read any of those series from the beginning. It did inspire me to read older issues which is what most readers did to get caught up. There really is no reason to reboot so often all readers want are good stories.

Anyway, my list is very light this week with only two books: Vampironica: New Blood and Lois Lane. I might check and see if there are any other books I might want to read on the shelf. With that said what are books are you getting?

Harrison Ford Filmography Challenge #2: The Frisco Kid

I thought it was going to be difficult to find some of these old Harrison Ford movies but surprisingly it wasn't. I'm not a big western fan, it's just not my favorite genre of films. However, I watched The Frisco Kid with an open mind and I ended up enjoying this western dramedy.

This story follows Rabbi Avram Belinski (Gene Wilder) who was traveling from Poland to San Francisco to run a synagogue and to get married. However, once his ship from Poland docked in Philadelphia, he was supposed to take another ship that would take him to San Francisco but it had left early. Which was unfortunate for him because in trying to be helpful, he was conned out of money, beaten and robbed. Then tossed out of a horse-drawn buggy having to pick up his belongings that were tossed on the road.
